  • Here's another vote for heavy lifting. It will change your physique in dramatic and amazing ways. Resistance bands are awesome, but they'll only take you so far when it comes to building muscle. I recommend looking up a beginner's lifting program or investing in a personal trainer for a month or so to get you on the right…
  • Halo Top ice cream and Enlightened bars. I preferred ChillyCow, but it has been discontinued. :'( Also I'm really into cocktail shrimp. I get them frozen from Publix when they're BOGO and defrost one tray at a time. It's a ton of protein for very few calories, and they are delicious after a hard workout.
  • 1. All those calorie estimates are just that- estimates. The best way to see what works is to monitor your weight and intake over an extended period of time (at least a month or so) then figure out your daily average intake compared to your weight changes. If you aren't sure how to do this math, let me know and I can break…
  • We're building a pool. It should be ready in mid-September. At the pool opening party I want to come out in my bikini looking like a snack.
  • I agree. Generally I just ask people how they’ve been feeling. If people want to talk about their health or weight they will usually bring up their diet/exercise or any illnesses they’re dealing with. My only comments on appearance are usually compliments to their outfit choice.
  • This was a really good read, thank you.
  • Yay mini goals! I have two pairs of pants that are BARELY too small. I anticipate being able to wear them again in a few weeks. Also my lower back hurts today- I have scoliosis and a stenosis. My mini goal is to do my physical therapy exercises/stretches for the next three days so it feels better. I've been slackin.
  • Thank you all for the feedback. I agree it would be beneficial to have a smaller deficit, but I'm already looking at 4-5 months to hit my goal, and I don't want to drag it out longer than I have to. I'd really like to be back at maintenance by the holidays. :p I eat back enough exercise kcal to keep my deficit right around…
  • After stopping and starting calorie restricting quite a few times (and putting on a few stress pounds thanks to moving and the pandemic) I am back in it. This week has been a good one, and the extra protein I'm eating is really helping keep me satiated. I have high hopes that in the next six months I will be able to finish…
  • Heyyyyy I'm about 10-15 lbs out, not sure exactly where I want to land yet. Feel free to add me!
  • My sister is ~25 lbs lighter than me and looks amazing. I have a much curvier figure, so if I lost even 10-15 lbs, I'd look hotter. I am tired of taking pictures next to her and being outshined. :D
  • So... I know you asked this question of someone else, but I'm going to chime in with my experience in case it helps you. 1. Building muscle and losing fat are both difficult in different ways- one involves mostly strength training, and the other involves mostly a calorie deficit. I like to work out no matter my…
  • Yesterday I got some sideways looks from a couple guys because I was lifting more than them. They weren't big dudes, but hey, this lady has to take her victories where she can get them. Also I discovered the amazingness that is the one-legged squat. Sore booty for daaaaaaays!
  • My Apple watch is connected to MFP, so when I do a weight lifting workout, it comes up as cardio with calories burned. Before I had the watch I would just add the standard one @sijomial mentioned. {Add exercise -> cardio -> strength training (weight lifting, weight training)} Based on a large amount of data (more than a…
  • This thread is AMAZING!!!! My husband and I are currently preparing to move into a new house, so we've been slowly organizing and packing up our home. I have thrown out and/or donated so much stuff, and OP- you were right on the money in saying that it is SO FREEING. The thing I am struggling most with letting go of is…
  • I think in this case it would mean either the person hit the disagree button by accident, or they are deliberately being a d-bag.
  • Well clearly you ARE pretty! :)
  • I'm in my mid-30s, and I definitely experienced a bit of the "diet face" when I was hard-core calorie restricting. I looked a bit gaunt, and my fine lines stood out more. It didn't take long for that to reverse, and now I look much younger than I did when I was 20 lbs heavier. Lifting weights helped tremendously. At one…
  • I understand your frustration. I am 5'6", and my highest weight was just under 180 lbs. My initial goal was 140-145 lbs because I'd been there once before and felt great, but I seem to be stuck right around 158-160 lbs. At first this was frustrating and defeating, but it has become much less of a problem since I started…
  • NSV = Non-scale victory Congratulations!! Those are fantastic NSVs.
  • I am comfortable wearing (faux) leather pants for the first time in my life. They are a size medium!
  • I am so sorry you had to deal with that. Social situations based around food can be very challenging already. Adding on pressure from family to eat and drink more makes it immensely difficult and uncomfortable. In social situations I often have to remind myself that my journey is mine, and I don't need anyone else's…
  • This is such an amazing victory. Congratulations!!
  • I know that feeling. It can be hard to love and accept your own body as is even when it's already healthy and amazing. That perfectionist mentality creeps in. Just know that whatever you end up doing, you are AWESOME and you've accomplished something great!
  • The past two weeks was a whirlwind of holiday family visits out of state. I ate (and drank) way above maintenance pretty much every day that I was gone. NSV #1: As soon as I got back home, I jumped right back into my normal eating habits. No sweat. NSV #2: I exercised almost every day I was gone, whether it was walking,…
  • That’s fantastic!! Your hard work is paying off.
  • I love that look too. Congrats!
  • My aunt always jokes that once women get to a certain age, they all end up shaped like potatoes. This is a pretty spot-on observation in my family. I will stop the cycle of obesity and inactivity- I refuse to ever end up looking like a potato. I have a close friend who has always been in great shape and looks good in…
  • I'm doing this now. I'm only cutting ~300 kcal/day to minimize muscle loss. I am able to progress, but it's gotten much slower. I was killing it at the gym every week while I was maintaining. I've incorporated running to increase calorie burn which has added a layer of difficult to recovery, but so far it's working. I'm…
  • Congratulations!!!! It may take some time for your brain to catch up with your body, but it will happen. You look stunning!
