  • I have canceled my premium subscription and am switching apps since this one is not worth the trouble anymore. People need social interaction to stay on track with healthy habits. Community is so incredibly important when it comes to healthy behaviors, and that was what made MFP special. For whatever reason, the MFP team…
  • Agreed! It’s an accomplishment to wake up feeling a normal hunger for breakfast rather than being bloated and uncomfortable from eating too much the night before. It reminds me of alcohol in that eating too much gives me a “hangover,” but if I do it too often my body will still crave the extra food even though I feel awful…
  • I haven’t had a scale victory in a while as I’ve gained some weight back in the last several months. However, on my vacation last week, I hiked over 13 miles total in 4 states. These weren’t easy, flat hikes. There was a lot of rock climbing, balancing, stair climbing, and stretches of muddy trekking uphill. I knocked them…
  • @springlering62 I also think of you as Superwoman. So glad you’re recovering well! @rlpomeroy That is amazing! I just had this convo with several family members who have type 2 diabetes. When the older ones were diagnosed, they were taught that they will be on meds for life and there is no way to reverse it. They’re only…
  • This was my #1 favorite NSV! It’s such a small thing, but it’s an amazing feeling. Congratulations!!
  • I had about a week and a half of going what I thought was “off the rails.” Apparently I only gained one pound, and now I’m back on track.
  • When my physical therapist asked me to do child’s pose, I complained that it made my hips hurt and I couldn’t breathe well. Thirty pounds later, I can rest in child’s pose very comfortably. Makes a big difference.
  • My blood pressure was borderline at the MD office for many years even though I was physically active and generally healthy. It was fine when I took it at home. I figured it was white coat syndrome, but after losing 30 pounds it is no longer high ever. I’m not sure if it was the weight or the diet habits, but I’ll take it!…
  • I noticed the inability to remove a friend in iOS. I had to go to the desktop version to do it. Also when I get a friend request and hit accept, an error message pops up. It still accepts them, so not a big deal, but it’s annoying.
  • This cracked me up. 😂
  • While reading online pants size guides and reviews, I’ve realized that I am slightly smaller size-wise than the average person at my height and weight. I no longer have bulges and “problem areas” like I used to at the same weight. Most clothing sits the way it’s meant to. I’m not super toned like a bodybuilder, but it’s…
  • My most recent NSV was not mine, but my husband’s. He has been a BBQ judge for a couple years. For a while now we’ve been eating less and less meat/animal products at home and focusing on a more whole food, plant-based diet. Yesterday he went to judge the BBQ at Pigfest, and when he got home he said he didn’t think he…
  • Congrats to you on losing 20 kg already! That is a huge accomplishment. My thighs have always been big as well to the point where I didn’t wear shorts for most of my life, and I live in the south US where it gets ridiculously hot. I have found that a combination of overall weight loss and strength training over the course…
  • I agree with the others here. I just wanted to say that I feel this deeply and support you 100% in your quest for health.
  • As far as staying on track after surgery- I agree with everyone about prioritizing healing and staying at or slightly above your normal maintenance for a short while depending how extensive the recovery is expected to be. Then when you’re feeling better and the doc gives the ok, you can start decreasing calories and moving…

  • Dietitian piping in just because I think the changes in metabolic rate during healing are fascinating- it is true that both calorie and protein needs increase during illness, injury, and surgery. The increase is highly dependent on how extensive the healing needs to be. A common cold won’t bump your metabolic rate much,…

  • Depends what kind you’re looking for. Chocolate- I order Hershey’s sugar free syrup online. Hands down the best. Maple- There are several brands that are very good. I am partial to my local grocery brand- only 15 Calories for 2 tbsp which is pretty great. I have used Walden Farms which is ok but not nearly as great since…
  • My hair started thinning about 4-5 months into weight loss. I was only losing a pound a week or less, so I was certainly not going too fast. I was paying very close attention to protein as well. However I found out I was close to becoming anemic. Within a month of starting a multivitamin, the hair loss slowed back to…

  • I have days like that. Sometimes it means I need more sleep. Sometimes it means I need to eat more filling, nutrient-dense foods. Sometimes it means I need a short break from eating at a calorie deficit. And sometimes it means I’m just hormonal and should muscle through it.
  • @springlering62 Can you please share your low cal cheesecake recipe? That sounds like something I’d like to try!
  • Strength training of some kind is the best way to “thicken” those fun areas and lean out areas such as your tummy. However diet is crucial- you were a bit vague, but it sounds like you’d want to eat at maintenance calories to do a body recomp. (That means you’d lose fat and gain muscle at the same time.) There are several…
  • This was something I didn’t realize either until I lost ~30 pounds at 36/37 years old. The skin on my abdomen and outer thighs had some crepey wrinkling when I bent over or sat cross legged. This has mostly resolved 1 1/2 years into maintenance. Not that it really matters- even in a bikini, it was not obvious/excessive. I…
  • @AnnPT77 I am a big fan of the term “calorie efficient.” Thanks for that!
  • @brighteyedagain Please excuse me while I’m over here crying. 💜
  • I am officially off the omeprazole. After changing my diet, losing weight, and changing the way I treat my migraines, my stomach is finally healed. No more gastritis. I have also gone six months without taking any NSAIDS which is a huge deal for me- I’ve been taking over the counter NSAIDS since I was 7 when the migraines…
  • My NSV is that I’ve had several pictures taken of myself in the last few days, and in some of them I actually look fit. Most of my life I would try to hide my body in pictures and only take them from the neck up, but I’m finding myself wanting to show off my cute boots and new jeans. I am starting to prefer full-body…
  • LOL yes, people will notice the change, but sometimes it takes them a while to realize exactly what it is. Or they’re treading lightly because they’re afraid to comment on your weight. People have asked me if I changed my hair color/style, did my makeup differently, or am wearing new clothes. Yesterday my coworker boldly…
  • Your progress is incredibly inspiring!! Well done. 🎉
  • I have been eating a ton more vegetables and beans/legumes lately. I’m finding new and interesting ways to enjoy them. I’ve also gotten really into tofu and find myself ordering it wherever I go. Now if I could just let go of the sweets… 😂
  • I didn’t realize I would have loose skin and that it would be different than what I’ve seen on others. I’m 38, and I lost just over 30 lbs. I have wrinkly skin on my elbows from the backs of my arms sagging plus some minor wrinkling on my abdomen when I bend over and on my upper thighs when I sit certain ways. I also have…
