I have a Fitbit Zip so it tracks all steps. I have paid attention to the calories I have earned grocery shopping a few times. If it's the kind of shop where I am up and down most aisles, I earn around 7 calories. While it counts for the day, it doesn't make a grand difference. Sometimes I earn less for the day as I have…

Exactly! And it isn't like MFP is more successful than WW or Nutrisystem judging by how many members show up saying "I'm back because I regained".

Being that her diary is private you really don't know whether she's losing more muscle than she thinks. Eating 1200 calories is legitimate for some people. So tired of it being attacked. Eyes on your own plate.
-
MFP allows you to set goal where you want. I change mine depending on whats going on. Lots of people lose eating more than 1200. I wish I were one of them!

I would set up a "track" in your home. I sometimes walk in my basement. I do laps around the staircase. It's only 25 steps a lap but I have walked thousands of steps that way. Boring but I watch TV or listen to music. A step counter helps motivate me to do it. I hate heat and humidity but not going to complain. It never…

My arm strength and flexibility has improved by doing this video. Started with 2lb weights and am up to 8lb weights. Total beginner when started. http://www.sparkpeople.tv/video.asp?id=645

Ah awareness. I want to add denial too. In my case I denied. I think a lot of people do too. I would eat the 750 calorie muffin, knowing the calories, and tell myself I would watch what I eat "later". Later comes, I am hungry so I eat which puts me over maintenance. Probably would have another muffin plus other foods. Then…

This is a big why people want to eat so much. They don't understand how it all works. I will add that lots of people do not cook. They eat the majority of meals in restaurants. Extremely easy to go over maintenance if you are eating out/takeout a lot. Of course you can eat out every meal and lose/maintain weight. But you…

You go to another gym besides PF where you are allowed to be noisy when lifting. That's how you do it.

Yes! I have asked myself a million times why I do that. Very dumb!! I brought up snacking because I believe people in general are snacking more than in past generations. There are more high calorie snacks available more often. There are more snacking opportunities. I believe this is one reason why some people have the…

I gain at 2000 too. I maintain at 1800 if I walk at least 80 minutes a day. Without intentional walking I have to eat between 1400-1600 or I will gain. I weigh every single morsel that goes into my mouth except vegetables. If I start eating a lot of them I will weigh. It sucks but it's just the way it is. The more I read…

Yup! People do snack more now than when I was a kid. Instead of expecting people (and kids) to wait and behave nicely until the next meal, they snack. You go to the park for a couple hours, you bring snacks. Kids play soccer for 40 minutes, there is snacks. You run errands for a couple of hours, there's a snack. Kids are…

I think he looks great now.

You can't deadlift at PF so it doesn't matter.
-
No need to grunt at PF as they don't have 300+ lbs to lift. If someone is grunting at PF they most likely are being obnoxious and are the sterotype PF doesn't want as members.

Maybe I got a special deal because it $9.99 a month, cancel any time.

I am a PF member. A brand new one just opened near me. Haven't been other than the tour because I broke my ankle right after I joined. Can't wait until I can drive again!! My plan is to go 3 days a week for resistance training. Maybe do their circuit thing. Might even go to some of the classes. After all the talk here I…

Ha! I hear you on this. I caved and bought reading glasses when I realized no matter how much weight I lose, my arms won't grow longer! Rarely am anywhere that has vending machines but I think the calorie on the front is awesome.

I am too lazy to grow all my own food and raise animals to eat. If I weren't too lazy, ineptitude comes in. I do have a small garden and go to local farmer stands in the summer. The seeds or plants I use have probably been modified. I do worry about food that has been modified. I don't know how scientists can know the…

Wow! Very offensive. Especially on a weight loss forum. Adds nothing to the debate but nastiness. I doubt I would do this but I wouldn't judge people if they chose to. I have thought about surgery and wouldn't hesitate if counting calories didn't work. I have an open mind to weight loss interventions. I would rather…

I don't think it's required now but wondering if it should be. I am sure you are right in that it's a marketing ploy now. One other interesting thing I noticed is that there were very few regular size candy bars available for sale. Most were king size or whatever they call the larger size.

I wonder if it's confusion with a common scan (PET) to detect cancer. Lots of people fast before PET scans because what you eat can cause false positives. I fast for 36 hours before mine. My oncologist seems very adamant that sugar doesn't do anything with cancer. She says in general being obese is a risk factor.

I love love love Chipotle. I est there at least once a week. If there was one closer, I would go 2 or 3 times. I make similar meals at home often. I think you get lots of bang for your buck in terms of calories. I can have a filling rice bowl for 520 calories. Usually can't eat all those calories in one sitting so can have…

I don't know your calorie needs. For myself I know how many calories my body needs. My mind wants many more! You to figure out the difference. Takes time. Be patient. I know that sounds trite. I have to tell myself that every day. Sometimes a few times a day.
-
Thanks guys. I don't think I have it but was wondering how someone would find out.

Don't keep whatever makes you crazy around. Sometimes it's just easier instead of having to white knuckle through it. If you can't control what food is around, you have to just commit to your calorie goal. Whether you are hungry or not. Logging it all helps me stop myself from eating something with high calories because I…

How easy is it for a person to know whether they are insulin resistance? Would it be picked up if someone has a physical with routine blood tests? Do they physically feel badly which would prompt a doctor visit?

I forgot about memory quilts. There are many options online for those. I think that's a great idea.

I am sorry you lost your sister. That is sad. Do you have a favorite? Is there a sweater that you can wear with leggings or a belt? If it were me, I would keep your favorite and get rid of or donate the rest. Keep something to hang in the closet that reminds you of her. Try to feel good that someone will be grateful to…

I didn't think this through before I posted. It has cost me as only 1 book is available to download from the library! Appreciate all the suggestions! I started the book about the woman who weighed 703 lbs last night. It's going to be a doozy! I forgot about a couple of them. Jen Lancaster can make me laugh until I have…
