I have the same question. My Garmin logged a 4+ mile/6.6 km brisk walk, MFP calorie count does not reflect that.

I have free use of a gym as a military retiree, but it is an hour drive each way. I found a work-around! Take the stairs when it's an option. Recently, I asked a hotel where their stairs where. Three employees had to find someone who knew. Worth the effort.

If you can, find a cycling group that includes beginning rides. If there are bike paths around, free of traffic, you can start there so you're not stressing about cars. Bike helmet a must. Get fitted for your bike, it's more comfortable.
