being able to run a 5k without stopping by the beginning of September, right now I get winded about half way. I am going to try 5 times a week in August as part of my end of summer conditioning plan to be on my A game for the new school year

How are you counting your calories? If you are not already, use a food scale and weigh things out. For me, I was able to lose weight quick at first without being very exact then I stalled. I did a bit of a calorie audit and started actually weighing my food and found that I was really bad at guessing and I was eating…

set an alarm to go off every 20 min. when you are at your computer. When it beeps you get up and do 3 sets of 30 of something; squats, push-ups, crunches, or whatever. You should get up that often just to keep your blood flowing and give your eyes a break anyway, might as well gain some strength.

I walk during lunch. In the summer its a bummer. I keep an extra undershirt in my desk, and I wear alot of blouses so I just take off the top layer, walk in my undershirt, then put my shirt back on when I return, nbd. If I get too nasty I switch unders. Also, put some deodorant in your desk for when you need it. Oh, and…

I got rid of the candy bowl on my desk and replaced it with a fruit basket...when I am feeling peckish, I go a clementine and it really helps...I also keep popcorn around, campbells soup in hand, raw nuts, and I started keeping lemon juice in the fridge so I can sip on lemon water. Oh, and I keep a granola bar in my purse…

for what it's worth, the tuna industry is pretty unsustainable, even the line caught stuff is part of the over-fishing problem. You might not care about dolphins and sea turtles but you should probably care about oxygen being produced by healthy oceans…

get an iced americano (espresso and water) with sugar free vanilla syrup if you need it and a splash of almond milk, or just drink it black

Chess pie is so good with fresh farm eggs! There are chocolate versions too http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/classic-chess-pie

I had a health cousin die at 34 from the flu. She had no reason to think there was anything abnormal about the flu she had, called her husband at work to come home and take her to the doctor but was gone by the time he got home 30 minutes later. So...yeah. I get a flu shot and you all really should too. You could literally…

You cannot spot reduce; fat comes off as it pleases...usually from everywhere evenly...but for some of us it comes and goes from the booty first. You can do strength training to build muscle in your tummy, but you still wont be able to see the cuts until you lose the fat...you might be able to build muscle that supports…

Lane rules: you get your own lane if there are open ones. If all lanes are full you can ask someone to share. If you are sharing then keep to the left and try to not kick them when you pass each other. What to wear: a full piece swimsuit is good, it should be tighter to prevent drag but you really don't need to run out and…

First off, nice work on cutting out the alcohol! That's really hard and if you can make that kind of change you can for sure make healthy changes to your diet too. As for eating healthy, it really can be cheap especially if you get really in to planning meals and making batches for later. I like to make a big pot of stew,…

order a nice bourbon on the rocks and sip it...add a splash of water and a cherry if you need to

I live in the no-coast and can tell you that there are plenty of family farmers still trying to make a living off of grass fed/yard fed beef and chicken. If you have a big enough freezer you can buy a whole side of some happy cow from a small farmer off the internet. look here:…

I use the graph under the 'reports' section of MFP. It is really eye opening to look at my sodium intake then my weight...most days I have a spike in weight it is a day or two after a spike in sodium, or a day or two after I work out really hard, so that tells me its water not tacos. I was at 153 a week ago, 157 two days…

There are many ways to lose the weight, and surgery is one of them. If your doctor thinks your a good candidate and you think it is worth the risks associated, then I see no issue. I have known a few people who had it done and a decade later they are both in great shape and working to improve their health still. I do find…

good point, but I'm not doing it instead of working out, or even as something I will count as a workout...I just hate siting still all day and want to have a way to keep my blood circulation going and my energy level up. I walk for 45 minutes on my lunch break, do yoga over the course of the day when I have time, and jog a…

which under desk did you get? I'm shopping around for something like that and don't know what to do.

It sound like a version of intermittent fasting. If you are interested in having a few very low calorie days follow by higher calorie days there are groups here that can help you find an IF plan. As for the claims the military diet makes that you can lose 10 lbs in a week; its pure hogwash (For most people...maybe if you…

don't freak out, just stick with your goals and see where you are in 5 days. I bet its water...but for me I tend to not BM as frequently when I have cramps...could that account for a few extra pounds?

I did the rugged manic run! 5k at a ski resort with 25 obstacles!! I did all of it!! B)

have you tried drinking herbal tea? A nice lavender and camomile cup with a little honey and lemon to sip on while you relax instead of munching.

for the sweets in the evening, try to plan your meals so you have some calories left for a little bowl of ice-cream or some Greek yogurt with fruit in the evening. You don't have to give up sweets, just count calories and do it accurately. Mostly, just stick to it! Exercise is cool because it means you can eat a little…

I drink some bouillon on days like this. I tend to crave salt instead of sugar and it really helps with that. I can sip on it instead of snacking on chips or peanuts. Greek yogurt is a good snack too, the protein makes it stick with you pretty well.

Get some TVP (textured vegetable protein) from the bulk section of your natural food store. You can put in in veggie broth to create something that has the mouth feel and general flavor of ground beef. You can toss it in stew, chilli, or make some tacos. It really helps if you plan to convert non-vegan recipes over. You…

I eat icecream all the time! yumyumyum. I just make sure its in my calorie goal and I have a small serving instead of the big ol' bowl I used to go for. Adding whipped cream helps too ;) You don't have to give up sugar to lose weight; you don't have to give up any group of foods at all, you just need to eat a little less…

I call it "maintenance practice days". I eat at maintenance on Saturday and Sunday but don't eat back any exercise calories. It allows me to drink or eat out more easily. I'm at 1200 during the week.

I weigh every morning and use the nifty MFP chart section to see the overall downward trajectory. I used to weigh in monthly and was really confused by the fluctuation. Turns out I can fluctuate by as much as 5lbs between days during my TOM. I feel like daily weighing actually helps me to worry about the number on the…
