Oh...and when I started running, I lost 80 pounds. I kept it off for the six years that I kept running. I still haven't gained it back, but it's not as easy anymore.

I am right there with you. I loved running, it was the one exercise I absolutely loved. Then my knee started giving me fits. Each doctor said "lose weight", and never took me seriously. Then after about 5 doctors, one finally ordered an MRI. I had bone on bone in the weight bearing joint and thinning cartilage in other…

I played soccer all of my life, and then coached. Two years ago I decided to join a rec team with a few friends I played with in college. Even though I jogged every day, I couldn't believe how different it was. I totally forgot the conditioning involved! I was exhausted!!! I also broke my ankle lol...it sucks getting old!

It does not compare, they are two totally different things.

I have used it in the same way in the past. I gained weight over the holidays, but prior to that, I kept about 95% of the weight off. I would eventually plateau (after not being on it for months), and used the pill for a short period to jump start the weight loss again.

Phentermine gets a bad rap, and rightfully so sometimes. But there are people who try and use it the right way. We hear horror stories of people who gain all of the weight back because they made no real changes while taking the pill. They just didn't eat because they were not hungry. Obviously that is a recipe for…

One more thing...this may go totally against what your doc says, but my doc gave me this advice. 1200 calories is probably not enough, especially if you work out and want to keep the weight off. He said it's better to eat more and lose weight a little slower, and it's not such a shock to your body when you go off the…

I took the injections when I first started, and I do recommend them! I started Phentermine again last week as I gained weight over the holidays. It was a huge wake up call. I have used Phentermine in the past and had great success. I always gained a few pounds back after stopping, which I think is to be expected, but then…

You are correct on that, and perhaps I should have chosen my words more carefully. Excellent point though. I should have said that if the person was obese, that was more likely to have caused health issues.
-
Phentermine has been around since the 1950's and the FDA forced the removal of the Phen-Fen combo which was so dangerous, many years ago. And honestly, if a person is taking Phentermine, they are obese. Years and years of being obese are much more dangerous than a few months on a pill, and are much more likely to be blamed…

I agree, for sure. But I've used them in the past as a way to help break some old habits, and I always kept the weight off, with the exception of having my daughter. It also helped me develop my love of working out. It's not realistic, or safe, to depend on pills forever. But for some, it's the jumpstart they need.

Look in to taking 5-htp with them. That will help with mood swings and anxiety.

Oh my goodness, one size doesn't fit all!! Some people don't agree with pills, some swear by them. Some have great results, and it backfires for others and they gain weight. You need to find the method that works best for you, period. We don't all live in the same environment, have the same access to food, money or gyms.…

LoL I just want to say that I must be really uncordinated. I don't think I could walk/text or walk/read at the same time. I would fall flat on my face.

I liked Biggest Loser when it was about the diet and exercise. I stopped watching when it became about the stupid sappy stories.

People don't pay attention to others at the gym, and if anything, you might get a few friendly smiles or a "hello" or two. I used to feel like you, many years ago, but then I realized it was my own insecurities speaking to me. I think the only time I have ever judged anyone at the gym, was the time two heavy set girls (I…

Me, Me, Me!!!! No, actually, I stopped taking birth control about 5 weeks ago, and within 3 days I saw a 5 pound increase. (And I thought we were supposed to lose weight when we stopping taking them?!?!). Then, I've been splurging...badly! I am not getting on the scale until Friday, but I am back to logging my food as of…

I am not supposed to run after my knee surgery, but I love it too much to give up. I only do two miles on the days I jog, and I am sticking to three days a week. It's not much, but it satisfies my urge to go for a long run. I just started last week again after 6 months off because of my surgery, so I am at about a 12…

Lift weights

A doctor that tells you that you have weak knees, should not even be trying to diagnose you. Go to a specialist, otherwise you are wasting your time.
-
Generally speaking, I would assume that 1300 is too low if you work out as much as you say. I had to increase my calories to see weight loss, but I also weight a lot more than you.

Absolutely a doctor first. A sharp pain is a sign of injury, not soreness. I am thinking hernia possibly?

I personally have lost a lot of inches, very quickly, with body pump. In an hour you do over 800 reps, and it's a total body workout. I chose to go three days a week and used the highest weight I could for that many reps. My HRM averaged around 300 calories per hour. I think that if more people participated in body pump,…

Body pump is more cardio, and works with lower weight and higher reps. It is great for toning, but free weights can do the same thing. If you are looking to build strength, I would recommend the gym floor, with higher weight and lower reps. I know personally I see a faster change in my body when I am doing body pump.
-
I speak from experience, I have Lincoln log legs lol. They may tone up more, but you will not see a significant drop in size.
-
I am 197 pounds and 5'7". I am heavy but in pretty good shape, cardiovascularly because of jogging for so long, but I burn about 300 calories in an hour when on the elliptical.

Khols has some really nice ones that are cheap, unfortunately I don't remember the brand name. That's a good sign I guess, I've been wearing the same pants for two years lol. Anyhow, I like really fitted capris, as I used to run and I didn't want my pants falling. Khols has a brand that is little thicker, but stretchy…

Although I think the pizza and tootsie rolls are rediculous, PF is a good fit for some people. It may not be for everyone, but people who are intimidated by the gym or new to exercise, may see it as a good fit. I went to PF a few years back and it serves my needs at that time. I eventually had to move on to a gym that…

The couple of times I compared calories with my HRM, the HRM read 50% of what the elliptical said, based on my height and weight. So, I take the calories on the elliptical and cut them in half.

Personally I wouldn't log any cleaning as exercise. Yes, it is exercise in a sense, but I count it as normal, everyday life. Unless I am purposely working out, I don't count it in my calorie count. I will say on days when I clean for hours, I allow myself a little more to eat, and usually go over my allotted calories, but…
