  • Compression garments may feel better and even stop skin irritations, but unfortunately, there is no way to “fix” loose skin. I hope to have skin removal surgery on my arms one day soon, but I will be saving for a while before that happens.
  • I had a knee replacement almost 4 years ago at 36 years old. It took me almost a year, but I squat regularly. I can’t squat with heavy weight anymore, but I do with more manageable weight. I would jog if I could too, but it just doesn’t feel stable enough for that, so I stick mostly with the elliptical.
  • 39 year old female - VSG April 2018 S.W.: 241 L.W.: 172 C.W.: 180 It has been a stressful 6 months and then all of the goodies of the holiday...it’s time to nip the regain in the booty.😉 My personal goal is 169 so I plan to be there by next summer, or hopefully sooner. If I can get to 169, I plan to get my arms done.
  • I had a total knee replacement at 36. My doctor said my knee was in the shape of a 90 year old knee, and my quality of life did not match that of someone my age. My knee is expected to last at least 20-30 years, and then I will need a new one. Keep in mind how much technology and medicine will advance in that time too. We…
  • I did not have an accident but they do think I had an injury/tear that led to acute osteoarthritis. I actually went to the doctor for several years with knee pain, and could not even get an MRI done. Sadly, I was a bit heavier set (not by much) and I was also an avid jogger, so the usual diagnosis was “lose 20 pounds and…
  • LoL yes, I survived! My knee replacement went pretty well, with the exception of ligaments that are a bit too loose. There is another surgery that I can have to fix it, but there is no guarantee that it will help. The pain is not 100% gone and it never will be, but it is tolerable. Two Advil kicks the pain all together for…
  • I won't lie, it is really hard to get your fluids and protein in that early. I was always on the verge of dehydration, and in fact, after getting a bad stomach virus, I ended up in the ER to get fluids. If you find yourself getting dizzy often, it may be worth getting checked for dehydration. Fluids are the most important…
  • I can't help but wonder if it is you that wants her to lose weight and not your daughter. If my daughter had 6-8 pounds to lose, I would tell her she is beautiful and that she doesn't need to worry about this at such a young age. Not only are you tracking her calories count, you even calculated her TDEE. A 14-year-old…
  • Highest Weight: 269 (15 years ago) Starting Weight: 241 Surgery Date: 229 3 months post VSG: 195 My goal is 170 although my doc wants to see me at 160. I am 38 years old and 5'6.
  • I’m actually on soft foods now, my doc let me go to soft foods a week early. I feel a million times better. I’ve been able to handle all foods and have had no issue with getting sick. I’m going to gmhead back to the gym this week too, so I’m excited about that.
  • Welcome to the group! I have not announced to my MFP friends either because I know people are judgemental on this site. But, I am 13 days out of surgery and it’s been a pretty good recovery.
  • Welcome! Feel free to add me, I just had VSG 10 days ago. I am feeling really good and have already lost 16 pounds since the surgery. SW: 241 (5’6) Surgery Weight: 229 Post-Op (10 days): 213
  • I actually feel pretty good today but I am definitely weak. I had the VSG on Monday, cake home Tuesday at noon, and went back to work on Wednesday. On Wednesday and Thursday I stopped and took frequeant breaks, so it all worked out pretty well. Today I woke up and felt noticeably better, although still weak. I am on a…
  • The good thing with my job is that I work from home, and if I need to stop for an hour and lay down or rest, that is totally fine. I plan on finding the most comfortable place to sit or lay, have my laptop around, and work while I watch tv. Even if I took the days “off”, I would be doing the same exact thing.
  • My NUT stresses weight training only for the first six months. She said to use your cardio as a warmup, but save the hard cardio for when your weight slows down after about 6 months.
  • I just went through the entire pre-op process and I am scheduled for the sleeve on 4/16. I start a modified liquid diet on Monday, but may be released from that if I hit the goal weight that my surgeon gave me when I started. I had to lose 5% of my weight which is only 12 months, and I lost 9 of the 12 in two months. I…
  • I am scheduled for VSG on 4/16/18. I weigh 229 and my goal weight is 160, so I have 69 pounds to lose. I know that weight loss will be slow and I am ok with that, I figure slow weight loss is better than no weight loss. B) Starting weight: 229 Goal Weight: 160 5'6 and BMI of 37 (starting) 37 years old
  • Oh yeah, I expect the fatigue to be bad but I can take breaks as needed, so I am good on that end.
  • 2018 Goals: I really haven’t put much thought into this so thanks for the nudge! 1. The gastric sleeve. My family is not completely on board yet although my boyfriend has come around. I am doing this for me though, and my goal is to have the surgery sometime between April-May. 2. Goal weight of 160 pounds I would love to…
  • Thank you! I am so ready to do this!
  • The one thing I worry about is losing too much weight. I want to lose 70-80 pounds, which would put me at 5’6 and 160. I was that weight years ago and was fit and healthy, but still had some curve, lol. When you get to your goal weight, I guess you just increase your calories to maintenance? I honestly don’t want to go…
  • Welcome, I am just starting too! I have my first appointment on January 9 and have to follow a three month supervised diet, per insurance requirements. I won’t know if I am fully qualified until the end though because I have a BMI of 38 with no comorbidities except for osteoarthritis. I am 37 years old and already had a…
  • I know this post is old but I am hoping you run across it soon. I am 37 and just a year out of my TKR. It was the best thing I have ever done, but the limitations after surgery really throw you through a mental loop, especially if you work out all of the time. I am back at the gym and have been for months, but my focus now…
  • That was a completely random link to something she totally wasn't talking about. I am sorry for your son, but that was uncalled for.
  • I've had low blood pressure but not that low, yet definitely low enough to feel the dizziness when standing up. My doctors have never been concerned with the exception of when I had our daughter. My blood pressure dropped dangerously low and the doctors had to act quickly to bring it back up, so that I didn't have to have…
  • I definitely see the that hourglass shape is harder to hold on to, as I get older. I have naturally had that shape, at both my heaviest and smallest. Now that I am 36, I find that I still have the hips and butt, but I find that it takes more work to keep the stomach. I guess the shape is still there, but there is a…
  • What about getting it surgically corrected? I had severe knee injuries that even after surgery, could not be prepared. My doctor gave me two choices, live with the pain and start seeing a pain management doctor, or total knee replacement at the age of 35. I went a year trying to live it with, but I was so restricted and in…
  • That is awesome! I was just like you, in fact I couldn't even jog for 30 seconds. A year later, I was jogging 8 miles straight for fun! You can do it!
