I simply don’t go into fast food places. They offer healthy food; but the healthy food is the least tasty. I found myself there with a group at breakfast time. I ate plain oatmeal and 2 packs of apple slices. I drank skim milk and black coffee. My table mates had biscuits and pancakes and fried potatoes and smoky greasy…

I think the trick here is to view food in a new light. It’s nourishment. I can have fun in different ways. For me, it’s easier to resist refined carbs if I don’t consume them. I’m a nurse (on my 20th or so weight loss quest!) and I get medical journals. I read an article today on fatty liver (1 in 3 American adults have…

Make a recipe on this site. Then add the recipe as one thing. You can edit it when you decide to change up the ingredients.

I find it easier to stay on my plan if I eat a Mediterranean style diet. It’s not a ‘diet’. It’s my new way of eating for life. I think I might be addicted to sugar and I don’t crave it if I don’t eat it. Logging before meals has also helped me stay on plan. You can do this.

How tall are you?

I read the NIH take on ACV. It seems to decrease glucose absorption when taken prior to a high carb meal. I enjoy 2 teaspoons of it with 1 teaspoon of honey in 2 cups hot water.

Actually, the pendulum has swung toward coffee being healthy. I drink it completely plain, 2 cups every morning. Unless you have a medical condition that makes it unhealthy for you, indulge,

Make a new plan. Make a new goal. Reevaluate. Can you afford a gym and a few personal trainer sessions? Get that train back on its track. Once it’s on and moving, progress will happen!

Please get advice from your doctor. You might need to increase your calories for maintenance, and getting the numbers from your doctor will feel less like messing up.

1200 calories is moving you towards 120 lbs, roughly. What is your goal?

Can you have a heart to heart discussion with your grandparents? They might think they are treating you with things you enjoy.

I saw a study on the NIH site published in May 2017 showing that fizzy drinks made mice gain weight but flat drinks did not. It had to do with the carbonation. I am also interested in research about sweeteners. I don’t think there is enough evidence to date; but in my way of thinking, food and drink should be enjoyed…

I would use the McDonalds calories. I am also on 1200 calories. I’ve found it to be satisfying, although I have given up my guilty pleasures. And my stomach woke me up this morning growling!

I get mine at Costco too, already cut up and peeled. I love it roasted!!!!

It's recommend by the American College of Cardiology and by the ADA. I got my mother on it and her carotid plaque regressed without statins or other cholesterol mess. Check out the newest studies reported by the National Institute of Health on Atherosclerosis and the Mediterranean Diet. That's why I am also on it. I can…

I add half a cup of plain fat free yogurt, 1/4 cup skim milk, 2 teaspoons tahini paste, and half an ounce of dried cherries to 1/3 cup old fashioned oats. Then I sprinkle a little salt on top. Next morning I add a spoon. In the Fall, I stir in 1/4 cup canned pumpkin. You can add cinnamon, but I really like it without…

So I had lost most if my weight then life happened and now it's back on. I was feeling all mad at me. I realized recently that this weight is my security blanket, but I don't need it anymore. I can get rid of it, and good riddance to it! So I made a plan. I can't do it halfway, so I'm all in. I walked into the gym and the…

I don't eat my exercise calories. I eat the right amount of calories and I also exercise, but I lose faster if I don't mesh the two.

I make room in my diet for 100-200 calories in nuts every day, but not salted. I measure them on my food scale. They are incredibly healthy, and they are part of a Mediterranean Diet, which I follow.

I take thyroid medication. My doctor said it just happens to some people. Gaining weight is really easy! I feel like I have to double my efforts between menopause and hypothyroidism. But I work hard at being healthy. I hate to think of the results if I didn't.

As a quick guide, 1500 calories will move you towards 150 lbs. 1300 will move you there faster, and towards 130. 2000 will move you towards 200, and you'll get there, but maybe a bit slower. Your maintenance is 2600 calories, give or take a little for exercise level. A 1000 calorie deficit (1600) is where I would be if I…

Find lists of gluten containing goods on line. Remember that oats must be labeled gluten free. They are grown away from wheat fields and processed in a gluten free factory. I have found better luck at Whole Foods and our local coop store. Remember that vegetables, fruits, beans, most dairy, eggs, olive oil, and many seeds…

If you feel satisfied after 1600-1800 calories, I don't think you should feel obliged to eat the 200-400 extra calories. I'm trying to eat more whole type food, and it comes with a lot of fiber. I too am feeling more satisfied on fewer calories.

That could result in 60 lbs per year! WTG!

Protein, fiber, and fat are very satiating. Wait 20 minutes before seconds. My trick is to leave off added sugars and refined carbohydrates for 24 hours to stop the cravings. As long as I don't add those things back, I have control.

In my opinion as a nurse, if you vary from a balanced diet (Mediterranean, Dash, Vegetarian), and really before embarking on any major weight change journey or exercise plan, it's wise to consult with your personal physician. You could end up hurting yourself.

Try to eat the plainer foods. Estimate servings and food type and do your best with recording. Try not to use the inability to accurately count calories at a family dinner or buffet as a reason to go wild with your eating!

I pan fry an egg with cooking spray and put it over half an avocado smashed onto a slice of grainy toast. It's a great weekend breakfast and keeps me full for a long time.

That's 4 lbs a week. They do it on 'Biggest Loser' and gastric bypass patients do it, but if you still have a gall bladder you might want to halve that loss to 2 lbs per week or whatever is recommended by your doctor. Do consider being under a doctor's care during the process. A healthy Mediterranean, DASH, or plant based…

Please go to a doctor about your irregular cycles. If you do have PCOS, there is medication that can help. You might consider a GYN who specializes in fertility.
