I wear olympic shoes for squatting (I own some old school do-wins) and wrestling shoes for deadlifting (they are very flat). I would say 90% of the powerlifters I know wear wrestling shoes or deadlift slippers for deadlifting. From a competition standpoint, a flat stance allows you to decrease your range of motion and…

This is a weight cutting strategy not a weight loss strategy. There is something to be said for "staying warm" while you workout, but that goes to comfort and performance, not calories burned or 'metabolism'.

It's in my basement!! My partner and I budgeted a bunch of money for a basement gym when we bought a new house. Power rack, squat stand, two benches, deadlift platform, three bars, 500 kgs of weights, spin bike, and various accessory stuff (dumbbells, boxes, bands, trx, DL jack, etc.). It's actually the sweetest home gym…

I agree with chandanista - your BW is likely close, but you sound like you want to recomp - even "skinny-fat" people have cellulite if they don't have muscle. You might want to try some weightlifting and see if gaining muscle is the aesthetic you are looking for. With muscle, you can build the shape you want. By just…

I'm a former competitive powerlifter, and am now doing more HIIT style workouts with some powerlifting style workouts just for fun. I would love to compete again in the future but my number 1 priority right now is to get down to my goal weight. I found it hard to compete and lose weight (mostly just stressful). Please add…

I'm 5'1" and am 144 currently. Would like to be under 135. At my fittest was 125 and quite lean at that weight... No idea what my BF% is but I am quite muscular.

I am getting married in November and (of course) want to look my best. Add me if you like!
-
You can add me! I originally had ~25 to lose, hopefully only 15 left. Please add me and we can all do it together!
-
Hahaha so true!! For me it's thinking I have 10 pounds to lose, losing 10 pounds and realizing I really had more like 25 to lose!
-
You can do this! I know the disappointment. I have lost 10 lbs (with only about 20 in total to lose, so I thought/felt it was a big change), but nobody noticed. However, I've noticed, and I've found taking progress pics for myself has validated that I really do look and feel different. My clothes fit better, I no longer…

I purposely underdressed when I walked the dog this morning (-5 degrees Celsius) so that I would have to jog instead of walk. Well, we both got 6km instead of the 3km if we were walking, so it was good for both of us :)

Yes. They are murder. But amazingly effective. I (as a 140 lb girl) increased my squat from 300 lbs to almost 340 in 12 weeks on smolov. It was tough - I would literally stress out all day about how I was going to do 85% for 6x6 later... but it worked.
-
We only really eat breakfast together, which is tough because I do love cooking for both of us. He eats 4000 plus per day, and I eat 1300 ish. I eat lunch at work, and eat dinner when I get home at 6pm before a workout. He eats before he comes home at 5pm, and again after working out at 8 or 9 pm. We try to do other things…

Sheiko has wonderful powerlifting programs - and he is the ultimate coach. However, his routines are designed for serious competitors, and are hard to stick to for an average gym-goer. http://www.powerliftingtowin.com/sheiko/ If you want a very cool, but very tough 12 week challenge, try the smolov jr squat cycle. Your…

I am 5'1 and three quarters in the morning. Does that count? I'm 27. I am about 145 now, and a size 6-8, but quite muscular. I find "sizes" are hard to measure - I can be three different sizes in the same store depending on where the waist hits and, critically, whether the thighs have stretch. I'd worry more about…

Skinny cow (or similar) fudge bars. 90 calories, they take me a while to eat, and are delicious.

I love cashew chicken - see here for a simple recipe http://www.onceuponachef.com/2010/03/cashew-chicken.html I normally cook the chicken without oil, and you can sub any nut or your favourite vegetable. I love celery and the classic cashew.

I'm making slow cooker mexican beef for my supper tonight, and leftovers for salads and wraps for the week. 2 kg chuck roast, cumin, paprika, lime juice, 1/2 a red onion, 1 bell pepper, garlic, salt, pepper, beef broth, and a jar of medium salsa. Throw it all in the slow cooker and then fork apart after 8-10 hours. A good…

I love turkey meatballs - an egg and a very small amount of bread crumbs and parmesan cheese really hold them together and enhance the flavour. I also added very finely chopped onion and garlic. To me, they're better than beef meatballs.

You should probably see a physio to find exercises for your specific needs. As a general statement, most people are relatively weak in the glute med (exterior glute muscles), and a lot of poor form in weight lifting can come from weakness there. For me, strengthening this area has been excellent for my knee health and is…

I try to hit my calorie goal every day (1300), but I don't count exercise calories and don't eat extra for exercise. This means for a sedentary day I am still on track to lose weight, but if I exercise, it's a bonus deficit.
-
I have tried to replace one physical reward (food) with another (massages!). For every month I'm 'good', I book a massage. That or workout gear. Anything that will get me in the gym to try it out. Probably both unnecessary, but they work for me.

I have a problem with snacking in front of the TV too - I didn't even realize it had become such a habit until one day I didn't want to start watching the recorded show until I had some snack in my hand, and was getting frustrated I didn't have a snack! I agree with other posters. Just make a rule that you don't get to eat…

Cottage cheese & yogurt, almonds too if i have room. So filling and delicious!

Keep tracking your weight and calories and look for a long-term trend of weight loss. My weight (at 5'1") can fluctuate more than 5 pounds during the same day, based on water intake, what I ate, time of day, what my workout was, etc. Don't get discouraged by one weigh-in.
-
Yes it is nice how strength stays a little longer. I once tried not to train legs for ~1 year because I already have large muscley legs and stupidly thought not training them would be a good idea... and was just as strong afterwards. Running comes back but it certainly doesn't 'stay' the same way that baseline strength…

I told my significant other because I need him to know why I can't do cheat meals with him or why I'm eating less. He always tells me I look beautiful anyways (d'awwww) but I need him on board. I am in a challenge with my co worker so we discuss it a lot - but we are both avg weight and have the same goals so it works.…

Hey! I'm 5'2", 151 lbs, and goal weight is 130. I am athletic and work out a lot, and consider myself 'healthy' in the sense that I have good endurance, am strong, and have good health markers (low RHR, normal blood pressure, etc.) - but I've just let a layer of fat get on top of all that. I'm in and need a…

I find that since I've been at a sedentary job I've been more tired too. I've been trying to exercise harder and spend some time outside every day, even for a short walk, and a low dose (10mg) iron and B vitamin supplement has been helping me get to my RDA for both. Some of fatigue can be mental - might be worth some…
