Sounds like you are already doing really well and good luck with your recovery. I agree, pre-packed healthy foods like cottage cheese, greek yogurt etc are ideal.. as is fruit like apples and banana's that you can just grab and eat.. grapes are nice to snack on if you feel the need to "pick" at something.. Nuts are good,…

I don't think you have any idea what this type of surgery is like if you consider it "Instant gratification". Maybe educate yourself in how difficult this is before posting things like that. The difference is, you can't give up, it's done.. doesn't mean it's easy.

I had a gastric band years ago, lost around 6 stones, I had some great years because of that weight loss, but I did regain it and a couple more stones when it slipped out of place and caused reflux. :( Different surgery to you though and the band was reversible and has now been removed. This may be controversial, but GO…

I'm 270lbs and burn about 600cals an hour mountain biking, and I'm only just getting back into it. Surprised if you could burn 800-1000 cals an hour if you are fit and a healthy weight. :o
-
I'm 270lbs / Female and 1hr 45mins of hard off-road mountain biking yesterday burned 820 cals for me, I use a heart rate monitor. To burn 1500 a day I'd be absolutely knackered.. 1hr 15mins in the gym, (40 mins stationary bike, 20 mins walk, 15 mins weights) is around 450cals. Just to give you an idea as I weigh similar to…

70lbs! eeeeps
-
Added you! I have 100lbs to lose too.. and maybe then some more!
-
Awesome, that's great to hear.. I'm really starting to think a good mix of cardio and weights is the way to go! I enjoy both, so why not :) Fearing "bulking up" has really put me off weights over the years and I'm quite sad about that.. I've always enjoyed weights but never really realised how beneficial they are for you…
-
Thank you. I looked online and for my weight it may be 250 calories per hour of weight training in seems, depending on how hard I make it, as you said. I'm on week 5 now and exercise has slowed my weight loss down, but I feel so much better and clothes fit better, so I'm going to try and focus on fat % instead. I've also…

LOL, now that would be an awkward moment :hushed:

Oh do be quiet. Some people like debating and learning. By discussing the issue then myself and others can learn and appreciate different opinions on things, if you don't think it's important then why did you post? Strange. I wish I had time to go around posting how unimportant things are, you certainly had time to do…
-
It's a huge mental block I know.. but I think you need to set a day (today/tomorrow) where what you weigh is your new benchmark, and you can monitor your losses from then on. It sucks, but it's water as everyone says, so you only need to worry about the fat/muscle in reality. Good luck!

Umm, I saw her in the news the other day, so it wouldn't surprise me. To be fair though, she's got a lovely body, but not a PT's body by any stretch, she's just slim! Not toned as far as I can see.
-
You took the words right out of my mouth.
-
Okay, what about this then? Something I've often wondered. If the PT has never been fat and has always been athletic/fit, are they any better or worse at advising you on diet to lose weight? As opposed to someone who is either overweight/previously overweight and understands the struggle and can give hints and tips on…

Well said.
-
But you can do both, you just need to find a system that works for you.
-
I totally agree with first impressions and in some ways I think you cannot really help your first impression. But the OP came here to have a rant and didn't even take a few moments to consider other options that have been discussed here. I just think it's rude and catty, and there's plenty enough of that to go around…

Don't take their advice then, jeez. The point is, people are saying that if you are out of shape/overweight then your advice isn't valid. That's just plain wrong. People just have a poor attitude towards overweight people and it stinks. Just go to the gym and do your work out, some people will offer poor advice whether…
-
Of course you advise someone else how to do something, even if it's not possible for you at that moment in time. I've been heavily into scuba, snowboarding, motorbikes etc over the years.. is being fat stopping me from being able to teach someone? No, of course not. Wasn't there the first wheelchair football coach…
-
By doing your own research of course. As I stated in my first reply to the OP. "I think you have to research your own goals nowadays." If something is very important to me I research it myself, and take advice, and then I will come to my own conclusion.
-
*If* their advice is correct. Maybe you need to read what I wrote again and interpret it better?
-
I didn't say it was too much hassle, I said I modify the way I do it so it doesn't become an over-burden on me and therefore too much hassle. There is a difference. Short term thinking is where you don't plan for the long term, as I already know my weakness I have therefore planned for it in advance.
-
To be fair, I'm lacking in time because I run my own business, not because I'm sat browsing Facebook. I know my limits, if I get bored quickly I lose interest, so I work to my own strengths and weaknesses, nothing wrong with that.
-
What about doctors and nurses then? Do they have to be in shape to give you advice? If their advice is correct it shouldn't matter what they look like, just because they don't follow the advice themselves doesn't mean the advice is of any better or poorer quality. The only change is that you perceive them to be stupid…

I have a similar breakfast every day and then for lunch I have a Tuna pot pre-made thing, so I just have to scan the barcode. Only for my evening meal to I usually have to weigh everything on the scale. I'm the same though, get obsessed about it and then fall off the wagon because it's too much hassle.
-
I'm the same, I try to think to myself that eating will not help me in the long term. Do you have a goal photo of you that you can have a look at to keep you motivated? A cup of tea or coffee usually takes away my snacking urge as it's something to consume, warm and by the time it's gone my craving urge has probably gone…
-
When I did low carb, it was okay for around 3 weeks, then I missed fruit and veg.. I think you have to set a realistic goal that you can stick to long term. I found that 40grams of carbs per day was too low for me to be able to enjoy some fruit or carrot, and there is no way I would stick to that. Can you reduce your carbs…
-
You can be overweight and still know a lot about diet and exercise. If bad advice is your issue then I can see your point.. someone being overweight and working in a gym, well, maybe they got ill or just had a baby? I think you have to research your own goals nowadays, I rarely listen to others without looking into it…

I agree, I always gain 1.5lbs after a long bike ride, takes a few days for it to go away.. it sucks!
