Absolutely!!!

But in reality, those folks are burning off (maaaaybe) hundreds of calories while consuming thousands. Lot's of generalities, but there are lots of studies out there that show how much typical Americans (I know, I know( eat at the holidays. Then compare that to how many calories you burn even during a good workout. The…

I estimate it 2,3,4, more cups and LOG it! I don't weight it though.
-
Weight loss is simple, mathematically. If you eat fewer calories than you burn, you will lose weight. Exercise is absolutely needed for health and fitness reasons, but (in my opinion) is not really the most important thing for weight loss. But depends...how much exercise, and will you be doing this every day for the rest…

Missed that - damn, and I did read it (but obviously not closely enough). Answer is largely the same. Change "friend" to "sister". Not likely to lose a sister, but it may happen that the relationship suffers.

If he were an adult, I'd say that he won't change unless HE wants to. And since he's a kid, and you're not the parent, it's pretty much none of your business. But...you should still make sure both parents know. But it's a fine line between you being a nosy person, and a genuinely concerned friend (in your friend's eyes).…

Maybe - my wife said that I had bad breath for a few days, but it went away in less than 2 weeks. But I've heard it can be real bad. I was fortunate, I suppose.
-
Exactly!!! I log my food to track net carbs - the rest of the tracking just happens because the food is logged. Like Sodium, Potassium, etc... I don't track Sodium (but I do, yeah?).
-
Ugh. OK, if that's how you want to look at it. Point is, I can eat 1300 or 2500 calories in a day - don't care. Call it what you will. Good luck on your journey. :-)
-
Sounds like you're saying.... Things were easy. You were doing great eating low-carb. Then you stopped, and things are harder. ;-) Come back......we're waiting! :-)
-
Easy. I just log everything. I don't count. The calories are there though because I do log. What I've said - I think - it that I don't really look at calories. I don't "count" them. But I do log everything. The calories just fall where they will. But they do end up being rather consistent. What I do count is "net carbs". I…

Yeah, agreed. I also studied nutrition in college. I think a vegan diet (mean what you eat, not a "diet" per se) is far healthier, in general, than anything else you can do for yourself. I try and have a vegan day once every couple weeks, but it's hard for me. Even eating low carb, I allow myself to eat whatever veggies I…

Yes. Before I started my lifestyle change (NOT DIET) to eat fewer carbs, I considered many options. And, like it or not, the Atkins book resonated with me. I read it cover-to-cover before starting. I think many folks who criticize it may not've read it - but doesn't matter. He very clearly says it is NOT a license to…

As far as I know, the top 2 predictors of RE-weight-gain are: Not logging food eaten, and Stopping your exercise. I agree - it is tedious. Although I don't "count", I do log, fastidiously. If I see any trends or even spikes, I can review my past day(s) and see if anything changed. Yeah, it'd be nice if we didn't have to.…

Over 220 pounds lost in just over a year and a half. 400 to 170. Feel free to add me, but only if it's a 2-way support. I only have a handful of "friends", and I am always happy to share what does and doesn't work for me. Cheers!

This is it exactly. I like to "feel full", and its the good fats I eat which make me feel full. Not that hard to figure out, yeah? And, as you point out...as many calories as you want to eat - not a license to gorge. Eat until YOU are satisfied. You got it, exactly.
-
"For me", I need the volume of food in order to be feel. And I like to like the taste of the food I'm eating. So, if I had to count calories, and stay under my REE + exercise, AND eat larger amounts of food, I'd have to eat low-fat. Eating keto, I can have much more fat (better for satiety) and increased quantities of…

Yeah, and for no real reason. We are all trying to do the same thing and be helpful along the way. Anyhow, good luck on your continued journey to being in better health. Cheers!

Dude - you're arguing something where there's no argument. Sheesh. "I". See that? for "me" to eat foods "not satisfying to me" - all these replies are based on one's own experience, and are "opinions" - nobody's a doctor here as far as I know. "For me", "I" would have to count calories. Nobody has to do anything. Some…

I think you didn't read my post.

Weight loss is math. Eat fewer calories than you burn and you will lose weight. Doesn't matter how you do it. Eating less than you burn, mathematically, the ONLY way to lose weight! Congrats on the 90 pounds. Quite an accomplishment. Here's how I thought about it... I could count calories. That would require me to eat a…

If you have a sweet tooth, it can be rough. I've given up my nightly 6-quart popcorn bowl and big-bag-of-chips-at-a-time habits. I miss my popcorn and IPA (sometimes terribly). But, I went from 400 to 170 pounds in just over a year-and-a-half. So the results speak for themselves and make the sacrifices worth it. Now, I am…

I count carbs, and I second/third/fourth the Dave's Killer Bread. I also eat a Eureka Sweet Baby Grains. It's larger than the Dave's Killer (thin), and about the same nutrition-wise. There's also an Oroweat bread named something like Healthfull that's very low-carb. But...Dave's Killer Nut and Seed (thin if you're counting…

I was at 400 a year and a half ago. I am now at 172. I can't see how I could ever have "visible" 6-pack abs. There is sooo much loose skin. But, I am not worried about it as I am extremely more healthy now than before, and I'm not concerned about appearance. But if you are, I can tell you that, at least in my case, there's…

1 stone, about 14 pounds? Have you considered low-carb? You'd more-than-likely drop that and more in the 2 weeks of induction without anything more than walking a bit. Weight loss is NOT about exercise - it's all about portion control. You need exercise for your health, of course. It is essential. But you're not going to…

Feel free to add me. I don't have a lot of (MFP) friends, and prefer to keep it that way. I'd like to have MFP friends who are supportive. Too many people just post selfies of mirror-in-the-gym shots. Ugh. I've lost over 200 so far, and I'm not afraid to share the good and the bad.

You are a human. We are all imperfect. We try - we succeed - we fail sometimes. It happens. The measure is what we do when we stumble. We learn, yes? Then we do better the next time. If your best friend came to you and said to you what you said above, what would you tell him/her? Now....go look in the mirror, look into…

Enter your weight the same time every day. I do mine in the morning, after my daily...well...whatever I do first thing in the morning. You weigh less in the morning, and are less affected by water retention first thing in the morning. Whatever you decide, do it the same way ever day.
