Easy run today... The first at the new house. I stopped my watch at 3 miles, but then jogged the rest of the way home. Total distance was around 3.4 miles. I'm taking credit for 3.2 so I can even out my monthly mileage. 28 of 40 completed. Tomorrow is supposed to be my first long run since March. We'll see how it goes.

Don't let that cupcake chart fool you. You can have 2 AND A HALF cupcakes for a 5k. Don't short-change yourself!

Rest day for me today (well deserved after four days straight--that's more than I've done in a long time). Good timing, too, as the high today is 89 and tomorrow's is only 80! Saturday night/Sunday morning low--for my first long run post surgery!--is 54 degrees!! SO EXCITED! Now to figure out where the heck I'm going to…

@greenolivetree - It's definitely cooler than it has been (high today is only 87 vs the 100s we have had recently), but we keep getting these threats of thunderstorms that never materialize. Lots of humidity, no rain. This morning, it was thundering out with dark clouds all around, but the sun was still shining bright. By…

3.3 miles today (technically 3.33, but I'll let the hundredths go). Holy humidity. I thought maybe I was just dragging and it wasn't all that bad, but my gym buddies confirmed that they all struggled today, as well. According to the weather channel, it only "feels like" 89 degrees, but I must disagree. Felt more like…

@cljoe7 - I hope running will start being more enjoyable for you once the weather gets cooler and less humid. Summers always kind of suck. Even if you're in a place that may not be considered super hot, it's still warmer than what you--being acclimated to that place--are used to. I personally struggle with most runs in the…

I had my last post surgery appointment today. I'm told that I am recovering exceptionally well. She did request that I take Aleve for the next two weeks to help get ahead of my intermittent swelling. I think I can handle that. So, no more appointments on the schedule. I'm just supposed to call if anything starts going…

@5512bf - I had an Os trigonum excision (removed an accessory bone attached to the back of the talus, inside the empty space of the joint) and accessory soleus debulking (basically, I had an extra calf muscle that extended down through the ankle joint into my heel, so they cut it out, too). Luckily, I didn't have any…

3 slow, easy miles today. I decided I needed (and am ready for) some structure to my running, so I'm loosely following a 12 week half marathon training plan. I just don't push myself as much when I don't have someone or something telling me what to do. Today was day 1 of that plan. So far, so good. Average pace was around…

@RespectTheKitty - I like to call that my autopilot. For me, it tends to hit around the 3-5 mile mark.

Today was AMAZING running weather (comparatively speaking). 87 degrees (31C), with a heat index of only 99F (37C). Humidity is currently at 69%. Sounds horrible, I know, but with the clouds in the sky, it felt a million times better than any of my other recent runs. I did 3.5 miles in total. The first 3.1 I ran nonstop…

@Virkati - For being of completely different breeding, your running buddy looks an awful lot like mine (she's a miniature GSD/Husky mix). Similar build, looks to be similar size, same coloring (all black, white on chest, gray on muzzle--mine does have silver/tan feet, though). And also similar in temperament... My girl is…

Os trigonum! That's my standard answer for everything related to ankle pain these days--though it is unlikely. Seriously, though, I did have a pain that sounds very similar to this when I first started having problems several months ago. Pain on the inside of my ankle that hurt only when walking (not running). Is it…

Got in another 3.75 today. Started off at a good pace and was comfortable. Then the clouds decided they didn't want to hang around anymore and I pretty much died on the second half. Lots of walking. That sun beating down is just brutal! Doesn't help that the second half of my run is always uphill as i make my way back into…

All this talk about races with goodies is making me want to sign up for one! I did the Route 66 Half Marathon (same course as the first half of the full marathon) last November. There were no official race-sanctioned goody stops, but the locals were out in force. It was about 25 degrees (F/ -4 C) when the race started.…

@instantmartian - Everyone must have a designated bacon buddy. They can track your progress live on Strava, and see when you have stopped or slowed down. This allows them better insight into when and where you need your bacon delivered to you during your run. I ran 4.5 miles over lunch today. It was a bit more bearable at…

I managed 3.75 miles today. That does include some short walking breaks as it is REALLY HOT (97/107 Heat Index). I did remember to bring my camelbak, so I was able to stay hydrated, but I'm really wishing I had the insulated tube, as the water in the tube got hot in the sun (the stuff in the reservoir stayed cool enough,…

@skippygirlsmom - Sadly, we're moving about 90 miles from the old house to the new and are still doing it this way. We debated the moving truck idea, but decided this was more practical because we have to build fences and chicken coops before we can get the animals all moved--which means I'd be going back and forth anyway.…

Work obligations and moving are killing me! I have yet to get a run in this month. I was planning on going today over lunch, but I ended up with a meeting from 10:30 - 12:00 and now its really damn hot and I have too much crap to get done. I really need to work some overtime to catch up, but I just can't do that with being…

@Somebody_Loved - I hope the KT Tape helps your knees. I had some knee issues last year, and it did wonders for me. In my case, it was primarily a shoe problem. I was wearing the same shoes for everything, and I needed more support for my really long runs (I had been running in Nike Free, but switched to Altra Torin for my…

@ereck44 - No, sweating should not make poison ivy spread. As long as you have washed your skin since coming into contact with it, it should not spread further (it's the oils from the plant that cause the irritation). However, sweating will likely make your existing rash itch worse. I'd suggest using rubbing alcohol on it…

@Elise4270 - Boo on the extra crutch time! I hope you're able to get in some good workouts at the pool!

I saw some people talking and asking about hydration packs in the July thread. Thought I'd throw this out there--woot.com has a 2L High Sierra hydration pack for $19.99 today. I'm not familiar with this brand (I use a camelbak), but it's a darn good price if anyone is interested in giving a pack a try but doesn't want to…

Hmm...Not sure where to set the bar this month. I eked out 10.5 miles last month, but only started running part way through the month. I think I will go for 40 miles--approximately 10 miles per week and see how it all works out. I can't wait to get back to my 100+ mile months...
-
@Orphia - I use a camelbak that was designed for cycling to run. I really like it. When adjusted right, it does not bounce. Only negatives are that the straps will chafe bare skin, so you have to be careful what shirt you choose, it doesn't have a clip to hold the tube in place (solved by tucking it into the chest strap…
-
@greenolivetree - I hope you get your lower leg pain figured out. Hopefully just an angry muscle! I got in another 2.9 miles total today--2.15 of that running. It was hot, humid, and sunny today. I planned a route with a water fountain in the middle, but ended up having to run straight past it, as there was a group of…
-
@9voice9 - I was the other gimp needing mileage donations, but now that I'm back running somewhat regularly (though not nearly what I was doing a few months ago) I will forego my charity miles and give them all to @Elise4270 . Looks like maybe @WhatMeRunning needs some donated miles? Haven't heard anything from him in a…
-
@louubelle16 - I would do the 20 mile race if I were you. Granted, I'm one of the few people who doesn't seem to get all amped up by the race day excitement--my training runs are sometimes faster than my actual race. Like last year when I ran a 11 mile training run for a half marathon one week, then did a 15K race the next…

Well, I'm a moron. I went down to the gym to use a treadmill over lunch and get another run in. Of course, they're all taken (again) because it's hot outside. So, me not being a total wimp, I decided to just bite the bullet and run outside--last time, I waited like 20 minutes on the elliptical (aka the bane of my…

@ereck44 - I take a magnesium supplement before bed (magnesium citrate, to be exact). It's an electrolyte and can help with muscle cramps. Plus it has the added bonus of helping me sleep better (if I take the supplement, I sleep like I do when I take benedryl, but am not groggy after waking up). If you decide to do a…
