  • Ok, i guess i'll be putting out this weeks basket. Lets see what we get from chinese five spice, pineapple, chicken (or another protein sub), and peanut butter
  • **BUMP!!** i'll post it if nobody else will but its so much better if more people get involved :) on a side note, i also loved the ability to sub a protein. Great work @lporter229
  • I was hoping to have a chance to cook my dish this week but flu and pink eye have me working overtime as a mommy and i dont have much playtime in the kitchen. My take on this weeks basket was oven baked tempura surimi sticks with creamy chili infused dipping sauce and a side of pesto rubbed potatoes. If i get a chance i…
  • Since you had SNAP while raising children and you mention WIC i will assume you are or ar least were a participant. WIC sucks big time. At least out where i live. The size of the package is stated on the check not just quantities and the exact items arent always available nearby. Only certain brands of some product are ok…
  • I was dumped for being too sarcastic....i actually laughed when he told me because i happen to love my sense of humor and someone who cant appreciate that just isnt right for me. He also made my life way easier because i was trying to find a nice way to dump him for being a wimp he was also most likely somewhere high up on…
  • Its a super slippery slope IMO. Who is deciding whats "junk" or a "premium product"? What about dietary needs such as allergies or celiac disease? If we are able to give extra allowances for them, why not kosher or halal (yes, the meat is more expensive) vegetarian and vegan are diets typically taken upon oneself by choice…
  • Looks like @mirapeerance has gone MIA so its a freebie. Whoever wants to post the next basket is welcome to - the only catch is they need to contribute by making a submission for this weeks challange (can you tell i really dont want to let this go??)
  • Chiming in here as a SNAP recipient. I work full time and have considtently been employed for my entire adult life the only lapse was while on bedrest during a high risk pregnancy and recovery time after delivery which makes sense. People can buy anything they want with their card as long as its edible. Honestly, it…
  • That sounds like so much fun @nickssweetheart it doesnt need to be your own recipe or even a recipe at all.....even just tossing out an idea or modification on something you like is fine - the point of this is to get new and exciting ideas :)
  • So it seems this basket was kind of a dud.....i guess by default @mirapeerance is the winner and can pick the next ingredients! Come on, people let see what you got - and remember you dont need to make your food to play just typing out what you *would* do is good enough
  • Add me! I especially love friends who love to cook :)
  • Very similar story here....i'm 29 married with 2 kids. Started trying to lose weight the end of september at 188 todays weigh in had me at 169.5 and i have a goal of 160 right now and then i'll be taking it from there. I suck at logging but i'm getting better. Lets rock this ;)
  • Yum! Your recipes sound so interesting i would definitely want to experiment a little with those ideas :)
  • Heading into the weekend now theres plenty of time to try something new.....or maybe just give a makeover to a current favorite. Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!
  • I made broccoli, carrot, and cheese quinoa bites for dinner last night. I cooked up some qunioa and added a bag of riced broccoli I had on hand to it and grated a medium sized carrot for some more color. I added some eggs for binding and shredded cheese then mixed it all up really well and put it in mini muffin tins. It…
  • Ok everyone, new thread is made with rules and a clearer breakdown (i hope!!) Lets make some magic :)
  • I definitely agree with this. Totally my bad - my early morning brain is terrible i took a lot of things for granted when i typed the suggestion up. I think it could work without a new thread each week but the rules definitely need to be clearly stated so that even people unfamiliar with the show can play along
  • That would be really cool to do.....i actually went with more basic ingredients and an incomplete basket (no set protein) to give flexibility. It would be really cool to judge based on pictures if we would all make the dishes we are submitting. I want as many people as possible to play so i wouldn't want to make cooking…
  • Add your protein of choice and lets see what you got ;)
  • Your comment about school lunch actually got my gears turning and i wound up doing this chopped challenge for dinner - i made *broccoli*, *carrot* and cheese *quinoa* bites and i'm having chai made with *coconut* milk for dessert. I cooked some quinoa, combined that with a bag of riced broccoli i had on hand then (finely)…
  • Yeah, you definitely have access to ingredients beyond the basket 100% i liked your idea a lot - for me its definitely outside my comfort zone but im curious (exactly what i was hoping to get from this!!) I appreciate that you included the exact recipe for your quinoa cakes - i may just have to try them sometime
  • In my head i was imagining more description like it was a recipe. Explain the method you would be using like i'd make the quinoa with vegetable stock then add shredded carrots and riced broccoli to it.....
  • Yup thats correct
  • INGREDIENTS - quinoa, carrots, broccoli, coconut milk
  • Basically i want to have a chopped style thread where we can get creative and make new foods/share ideas of how to prepare food in a fresh exciting way. The tv show is kind of the inspiration. Maybe its crazy but it could be a lot of fun. For example if zucchini was one of the ingredients i might make a spiralized veggie…
  • Sure
  • My husband makes us mock fried rice using riced califlower or broccoli, chicken (can use protein of choice), baby corn, peppers, onion, and a bit of low sodium soy sauce to finish for flavor. Its super filling and like any other rice recipe super easy to customize. 1 bag of riced veg prepared this way gives us 4 1.5 - 2…
  • hopefully this takes off and we can both get some awesome ideas :)
