Try this. Eat real, whole foods of every kind but stay clean. I define that as lean meats, fresh fruits and veggies, nuts, whole eggs, 100% whole grained, home bakes breads and such, beans and raw, whole unpasteurized dairy. And even this is merely a guide as I reach this ideal 70% of the time. If we're in this long-term,…

And may I just add this...

It's the whole package. To become the best version of myself, I need to eat and train smart. If anybody invests time in the gym, why not engage the very training that will produce the best results?

He's talking about overall effectiveness and long-term fat burn. Compound movements in strength training are better than isolation exercises. Most new to strength training may not know this.

Great advice. Here is what I do...

No, canned fish, Greek yogurt, eggs and beans are not only less expensive but actually much better. You never really know what you're getting in those buckets of powder anyway.

Any excuse to eat more is all I need...lol What would I do? NO MORE EATING! Calorie goals are the most important consideration. Macro goals are secondary.

Glad you're hear. I remember that first day. Check out how MFP works. It took me time to learn how to log foods and exercises. I wanted lasting, steady results that are safe and realistic. Sounds like a plan!

I have maintained for nearly 3 years now. Nothing much changes and maintenance is not easy. I engage body recomposition where I eat to surplus on strength training days and eat with a deficit on cardio days. It works. The key to success in weight maintenance is having strong goals. The reason most regain their weight is a…

Sounds hokey; I'd just recommend proper eating as per MFP recommendations and exercise - both cardio and resistance. Check out how MFP works, and consider lasting, steady results that are safe and realistic. Getting Started…

Doctors make suggestions, but I am the boss when deciding my goals. Baring any medical reason for the suggestion, ignore your doctor and set and reach your own goals. And as mentioned above, look into body recomposition. Good Luck! :)

Yes, just make up your own exercises and calorie estimates. That's what I needed to do, because the MFP numbers were way off for me.

ALL OF THE ABOVE! I split my time doing all three, and our gym has just about everything.

The problem is not enough gravy with your mashed potatoes... :p Seriously, I feel you. Are you sure about those calories? Maybe try a different recipe. Your solution is fine, and in time, you will get used to having what you enjoy in proper moderation.

I cut back on wheat products and thought myself "low carb" only to realize I was still eating 50% carbs. Most are from rice, veggies and fruits, but I still eat wheat produced foods. In my fat times, I just went carb crazy, but with moderation, I had no real issues. There is a book "Wheat Belly" where the author advocates…

When I first began, an hour of cardio was around 900 calories per hour. I have an insane metabolism As I lost weight, that number fell lower and lower....and today, I burn around 650 per hour for the same activity. That's still crazy high though.
-
I had to find my own zone for calorie burn from exercise. Metabolism is a function of activity, weight, genes, hormones, sleep and who knows? There is no boiler plated universal that fit my needs, so, through trial and error, I just made up my own numbers for exercise calorie burn rates. I lost 100 pounds and have…

Everybody has their own definition of "clean eating". Who knows? I try to avoid anything canned, boxed or packaged or processed in any way. Optimal food intake is whole, real foods...lean meats, fresh fruits and veggies, nuts, whole eggs, 100% whole grained, home bakes breads and such, beans and raw, whole unpasteurized…

I feel you. Yesterday, I was on track and a neighbor brought over fried chicken tenders we dipped in ranch dressing. OUCH! Afterward, I hit the weights and called it Christmas. It will take me two days of sound eating to make this up.

"tautological" In rhetoric, a tautology (from Greek ταὐτός, "the same" and λόγος, "word/idea") is a logical argument constructed in such a way, generally by repeating the same concept or assertion using different phrasing or terminology, that the proposition as stated is logically irrefutable, while obscuring the lack of…

I recall being appalled when first logging at the amount of carbs in my diet. WOW! I slashed carbs down to almost nothing compared to what I was eating before...and carbs were still 50% of my calories.
