  • With my Daughter's Wedding now in the rear view mirror, time to get back at it. This week three runs, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday (3.35, 4.7 & 5.17) 13.22 miles for the week. It's tough getting back. Times, though improving, are still sluggish. Still with 13 months to go to that planned Atlantic City Marathon

  • I've found the consistent improvement shown on a practically daily basis to be "motivation" enough. Each session, I've picked up a greater weight than the session before. Actually look forward to the next session to see how high I can go. Then, when failure inevitably occurs, there is the de-load and restart and I get to…
  • Daughter's Wedding Week is over and only logged 6.5 miles for the week. Lots of walking though, and eating ;-) Time for this Father of the Bride to get back at it.

  • So august is in the books. 61.5 miles for the month; 5 gym days lifting; long run, 5.14; 16 miles for the last week. Progress is slow but being made. Times are slow but improving. Enjoy your Weekend.

  • Can't imagine why time would be so far off, unless one program stops when you are not moving. My Garmin reports this separately, total time/moving time. Mileage is probably just inaccuracies in the device, which is why I get a different distance for the same route. Calories are pretty much guesswork from any device or…
  • I use Map My Run to map my runs (ha ha) and my Garmin Forerunner to track my actual runs and monitor my miles. BTW, how far off are your three systems in the miles run?
  • Since you "can spend as long as I want on the treadmill without issues including using incline, I have no issues with leg days at the gym and have been upping the weight on a regular basis" the WHY you can't use the elliptical is merely a curiosity. As long as there are no other problems with your workout, don't use the…
  • I got an arm band from Amazon, caries my phone just fine, keeps track of steps (for calorie count), listen to tunes and have a phone just in case. To each his/her own. Go on Amazon and look for small step counter. Steps are calories. I liked the Python reference.
  • One of the theories of how golf came about was a Scotsman with a heart condition, out on his daily walks, would hit a stone with a stick to pass the time. One time the rock went into a hole, gopher or some other animal's, and he decided to see if he could do it again. As time went by, and men left to their own devices,…
  • "I only really walk for exercise." Don't you have an app for your phone to count steps? Since you walk for your exercise, seems you just need to count your steps,
  • A yoga mat and a body weight exercise book/site.
  • C25K, and similar programs, work as long as you do.
  • 33C=91F. My personal criteria over 86F (30C) I don't run outdoors, particularly when the humidity is high. 86 and over, to the gym and the Dreadmill.
  • And the beat goes on. The first month is in the books with this week covering 15.12 miles plus two gym days of weights and rowing. 5 hours of "activity" time. Long run of 4.57 miles went well, there has been a break in the weather. It got cooler and dryer. 60 weeks to go.
  • So, you're upset about not being allowed to enter someone else's regular and well established game and being "forced" to go to one of the other empty 4 courts? Not too sure who the "jerk" is here, if there is one.
  • Striving for a certain heart rate is a cardio workout to exercise you heart for greater endurance/effectiveness. Walking without concern to heart will burn calories to help with your deficit. Covering a distance will burn a number of calories regardless of your speed. The difference between running and walking is that in…
  • Still, that $1000 rower is three years of gym membership. It's our own choices, just offering an alternative to private ownership of a machine that may become a valet.
  • My math worked out thus: A "good" machine will cost several thousand dollars. Yes, you CAN buy a less expensive machine but less expensive usually means cheaper. When looking for a home elliptical a $950 machine was flimsy and unstable compared to the $3000. It was usable but I could easily see it being under used because…
  • You increase your speed by increasing your training distance. By going longer, you'll get faster. Assuming you're talking of distances over the sprints .
  • Base building continues in week three with 14.71 miles done on the road. Feeling slightly less "slug like".
  • Week Three: 14.71 miles on the road and can start to feel the improvement. Real glad I still have 14 months to go.
  • "I'm really getting worried,..." So, stop worrying and get going. Or, I guess you're just not worried enough, yet.
  • Log on to FitnessBlender.com and try a few of their bodyweight routines.
  • Ran my first Half in 2016 at 61. Training for the Atlantic City full marathon in October 2020. Ah, to be young again. Enjoy the training and the race.
  • And week two ends: Mon, an hour on the treadmill; Tues, Stronglifts 5x5 with 15 minutes rowing; Wed, 4 miles on the road; Thur, rest; Fri, 3 miles on the road; Sat, rest, daughter's wedding plans got in the way; Sun 4 miles on the road. Still feel like a slug on the road but I'm getting some miles in. Looking at the map of…
  • Thanks, right now it sure feels like I'm new to it.
  • Mid week 2 update: There is a world of difference in working out to stay in shape and being in "running" shape. Hitting the road again, after using the elliptical and lifting weights, I feel like a slug.
