Welcome

Hi I'm old
-
I just started over again after a long break as well. Good luck! Feel free to add me.
-
I'm a dude so no menopause but otherwise similar stats, 41/m/5'6", started this recently at 200 lbs, I'm now at 195 lbs. I've also been looking for a more active group.
-
I just looked it up, that's an awesome goal. Good luck, you got this!
-
You're totally right. There's definitely a learning process to this.
-
Strength: doing Stronglifts 5x5, today was barbell squats, bench press, rows, all 5x5 Cardio: focusing on heat rate zone 2 training. Did half hour on the treadmill. Assessment: stayed within calorie limit. Lots of veggies and protein.
-
Um, why did you repost?
-
Thanks. This looks pretty cool.

A lot of good insight here. And you're right, it's time to change the approach. I think my problem before was that I was overcomplicating things while trying to do everything perfectly. I've learned a few lessons from that and the approach I'm taking now should be easier to stick to (fingers crossed).

What's a TLFC thread?
-
Yup, it kind of feels like fishing or throwing darts randomly. I'll check out the challenges.
-
Thanks, I'll check it out
-
I did notice it's a lot more quiet

They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. I'd rather think the upteenth time is the charm

I'm so tired of seeing that chart. Yes, they all create a caloric deficit, nobody ever claimed they don't. The only claim is that for some people those diets make it easier to stay in that deficit without starving. Moreover, some of those diets are about just eating healthy, not eating to lose weight.

I've been using a meal delivery service for the past two weeks and I love it. It does cost a lot more money than cooking your own food but it frees up so much of my time and it makes calorie counting super easy because they provide the nutrition info for each meal. I think service availability depends on where you live.…

That's interesting. It's the same amount of work but somehow mentally it's less annoying when you weigh it before putting it in the fridge/freezer.
-
I'm going to get crucified for saying this but I've tried keto before and I was indeed able to eat a very low calorie diet without going hungry. It was actually kind of incredible. Here's the thing though: you can't do it right away. It takes 3-4 weeks to get into ketosis and only then can you reduce your calories to that…
-
Yup, that was exactly my mentality. I didn't go as far as not having dinner at a friend's house but I would avoid eating things I liked or cooking the way I like if I couldn't accurately count it. Or I'd eat it and then think "well, my calorie count is all messed up for the day, I might as well not log until tomorrow".
-
Now that's a hack worth adopting.
-
I've kept my meals similar as well but I didn't rotate very often. That's probably part of the problem - my food gets more monotonous when I'm counting calories.
-
I do try to be very precise. Maybe I should loosen up a bit. Thanks.
-
I think you've hit the nail on the head. I just have to accept it's going to be more work. I do use a scale and I've tried pre-logging in the past. It's the measuring itself that I find cumbersome.
-
Here I am complaining about how the usual way is too much work and you go ahead make the hard way look easy
-
Oh my goodness, what a heated debate this has started! I haven't seen anyone here disagree with the fact (and it is a fact) that it's impossible to lose weight without a caloric deficit so let's not even argue over that. There have definitely been people that have maintained a caloric deficit without counting calories -…
-
Thanks to everyone that replied. I'm actually not new to this, I've tried and failed several times before. And I think I failed because I was trying to eat same as before (in lower quantities of course) which made calorie counting complicated. From the responses it seems like my meals will have to become a bit more…

This is all so logical it's annoying

Yup, I watched Obesity Postmortem as well. It's some scary stuff. I was looking for something more uplifting though - stories about people successfully making positive changes in their health. For example: Killing the fat man You are what you eat Eat yourself sexy Bringing sexy back From fat to finish line

Looks interesting, thanks!
