60 lbs to Machu Picchu
After failing to stick to calorie counting several times, I had this crazy idea. I booked a trip to Peru one year from now which will include hiking the Inca trail to Machu Picchu. It's a 3-day hike so I absolutely have to be in decent shape to make it. This trip is now serving as my motivation and a hard deadline to lose…

Revolving door MFP-er
Back here again for the upteenth time. This time trying to simplify things to make calorie counting easier. I was just wondering, has anyone here been able to form a meaningful and genuinely supportive group? The last time I tried making connections it started off with some introductions but then quickly got reduced to…

Hacks for easy calorie counting
Someone just told me that he ate only processed and junk food to lose weight because it was easier to count the calories. It got me wondering, what are some of the tactics people use to make calorie counting easier.

How do you log chicken thighs?
I'm cooking chicken thighs with skin and bone. There's an option to add "chicken, broilers and fryers, thigh, meat and skin, cooked, roasted". Does anyone know if entering by weight includes the bone? There's a similar option for "dark meat" instead of "thigh". I'm thinking my best bet is to remove the bone, weigh the meat…

What do you do when you're sick?
I'm sick and frustrated because I don't have the energy to go to the gym. At what point do you start doing any sort of exercise after an illness? Do you still try to go for a walk or something while recovering?

Inspirational movies/documentaries
I'm looking for inspirational movies or documentaries about people who significantly improved their health and fitness level. Something like "Killing the fat man" or "Brittany runs a marathon". It helps me get in that head space when I start feeling like I'm in a rut. Anyone have any suggestions?

Book on muscle building
I want to learn more about building muscle - how to select exercises, how to determine # of sets and reps, rest periods, nutrition, etc. There are tons of articles and guides online, lots of magazines and books promising results in just 12 minutes a day, lots of bro-science in various forums. I want one reliable, non-fad…

What's everyone's favourite weight tracking app?
I weigh myself every day and look for an overall trend. Right now I'm eyeballing it but some people have been mentioning using an app for that specific purpose. So what do you use and why do you like it more than others?

Losing steam
Question for the people that have been logging every single day for years: How do you not just get sick of it? I'm pretty good with sticking with my workouts and eating mostly healthy foods. But when it comes to logging I tend to have streaks that last a few weeks, maybe a few months and then I just get so tired of it that…

Social eating
Does anyone feel like their social life is at odds with their calorie counting efforts? We had a celebratory lunch yesterday at work at an all-you-can-eat sushi place, I had no idea how to put some of that stuff into MFP. Today I'm going to my nephew's birthday party, there will be home made food there that will be…

Fitbit Versa vs Garmin Vivoactive 3
I'm looking for a fitness tracker that accurately tracks calories burned throughout my day and integrates well with MFP. These are the activities that I'm interested in tracking for calories: - regular steps taken through the day - cardio machines like treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes - punching and kicking a…

Building muscle to lose fat?
I've often heard these two statements: "You should lift weights when trying to lose fat because increasing your muscle mass increases your metabolism so you end up burning more calories even when you're not doing anything." and "You cannot lose fat and build muscle at the same time because losing fat requires a caloric…
