  • So true! Motivation is highly over rated around here, and usually the first thing to fly out the window when the rubber hits the road in my experience. Congrats on your HUGE loss! Bravo! xoxo
  • I like 30 protein, 30 carb and 40 fat for me. People are all a little different. Play around with those numbers and see how you feel.
  • I really like the app Paprika for recipe storage. I've transferred all our recipes over to it, and it generates grocery lists as well. I have to say I've never had much luck with coupons. We don't buy things like pasta sauce or salad dressing because I make those things from scratch. You don't find a lot of raw ingredients…
  • I agree with @jkhoffe; are you sure that $150 'increase' isn't actually just a reallocation taken from a savings on the eating out side of the equation? If it really does represent new food spending, some of this will probably reflect the establishment of a broader pantry & even out over a few months. I'm not the best…
  • My faves are Chex mix, jerky, oranges, flavored almonds, string cheese or laughing cow rounds, pumpkin seeds and Reece's peanut butter cups. And plenty of ice cold Coke Zero and plain water!
  • I love my Fitbit HR & watch my calorie burn all through the day. I also appreciate getting a report on my sleep quality. My only caveat: I did have to shave 2 inches off my actual height to get the best fit for maintenance calories. But that was a small consideration. I love love love it.
  • I go to school sub assignments & don't always know what I'll find at new classrooms. I really like wraps for portability and not needing a microwave! I use a flour tortilla, which can be a low carb version if you want, and some of my favorite fillings are humus & avocado, turkey & Swiss, curried chicken salad with yogurt,…
  • Oh I'm sure I'll be taking mine to the mat for a headlock for the rest of my life. But I'm in better shape than her now o:)
  • I like the ginger flavors. I made it for awhile but it was a lot of work. Now I just buy it now & then. Back in '08 I had that terrible pneumonia that followed swine flu. I was on bed rest for a month. I had an insatiable craving for this every day as I got better. So I think there's something to the probiotics, etc.…
  • Good to know! Thank you for popping back in. I've said this about 25 times in these forums: if you're anything like me it's not some grandiose 'motivation' you need, just some new basic daily habits that will hold you in place like a bunch of band aids. Once I figured out that I never leave the house without pants and…
  • <3 I got the all pro lead from you @middlehaitch
  • Yeah, I find that show & the hoarder show hard to watch... The thing that always strikes me about the really really obese people is that they are 100% dependent on their enablers, so working on the enablers would probably be the most effective tactic of all!
  • Don't worry about the time you eat your calories. Unless it impedes sound sleep, it's not important. When you start on a 'health' kick eating more nutrient dense foods it's not uncommon to feel a little more full for a short time. But a lot of the people here who are overweight yet say they are struggling to get down…
  • Yeah. It's a health concern for some; otherwise it's just a temporary vanity issue. I've been doing a weight loss challenge here for several months and I think twice about Chinese carry out before I'm trying to make a low weight at my weigh ins. I love soy sauce & the sodium there always jacks me up a couple of pounds for…
  • That's probably my hardest issue. I prep & plan great meals, pre log most days, plan ahead for family gatherings and most of the time I'm in my little home/work/gym bubble doing my own thing just happy as a clam. But I still have a hard time saying 'no' to those spontaneous 'party-in-my-mouth!' opportunities. I'm a school…
  • I have no advice, just well wishes. I'm seven lbs off the dreaded last ten myself. Be patient maybe and accept a slower pace. My only other suggestion is you really try to determine your current lean body mass. There are measurement algos for that, or a DEXA scan an be had for about $125. The reason I say that is my…
  • @trjjoy she just said she's 5'6"
  • The only medical reason to avoid white potatoes is insulin resistance. Even then, you just work them in... I love a fluffy baked potato in its jacket with pastured butter & whole milk Greek yogurt. I eat one or two a month that way. I still lose weight if I'm in a deficit.

  • It's worth playing around. Macro distribution certainly doesn't feel like a one size fits all proposition. I watch protein goals daily, and stay fat/carb agnostic when I'm in deficit. Fatty days naturally end up low carb and carby days end up lower fat. By the end of a normal week it averages out. I do try to get most of…
  • Good find with Heidi! Yes, she's a great example. I find Cameron Diaz really inspiring.
  • Well, if you're dead: problem solved! LOL You don't need inspiration, motivation, 'fitspiration' or any other -ation crap. You need some boring old plain brown paper bag colored vanilla flavored routines, pure & simple. Things so idiot proof you can't keep getting in the way of your own progress! When was the last time you…

  • What @eazy__ said. This is a long game. Enjoy the strategy all along the way.
  • Keep at it. You really need to go 10-12 weeks and assess. If you are working harder than ever before I would imagine there's some water being stored on the cellular level for repair. Do your program wholeheartedly. The results will take care of themselves.
  • I started lifting free weights in January with a friend. We started with the stronglifts 5x5 app because we could only handle learning a few moves & they all came with really good form videos. We also learned we were pretty weak! We started with an empty bar that weighs about 18 lbs. Around that that same time I learned…
  • Two and a half weeks is too small a data set. Work your program for 8-12 weeks and get back to us.
  • Yes, I agree trend weight etc is the answer for you. You're not seeing the forest for the trees.
  • Let me sift thru my opinion as a card carrying Apple: Both views voiced above are 'right' insofar as apple body types AT MIDLIFE can indeed be a sign of insulin resistance... A normal annual physical will monitor those health markers & alert you to larger health concerns. BUT many overweight apples started out as lean…
  • I really like the Vega One line. I'm not vegan, but I'm comfortable with their very clean list of ingredients & the pea protein. I actually dig the strong veggie taste that comes thru, but maybe I'm weird... My favorite version right now is to combine the mocha flavor with 4-5 ice cubes, a cup of cold coffee, a frozen…
  • I weigh every day. Going up and down doesn't bother me at all. I expect it. What I love is seeing new low numbers for the first time. If I weighed less often I'd miss them!

  • So my diary is like a bible or koran? Full of admonishments for how to lead a morally superior diet? Or a really juicy novel? Maybe Anna Karenina in three meals a day... Or a work of utmost fantasy akin to Harry Potter? LOL nope I just record what I eat. I add up the math. I leave it open in case anybody wants to nose…
