  • That is a significant change. Can I ask a couple of questions: What type of exercise are you doing? Also, how tall are you?
  • You what? Stuck for a week? When you only aim to lose 1lb a week? Confusing - but then I only weigh once a week and my scales dont show ounces :D .
  • The striking bit of that is the problem for me. Too much impact when runninghurts my body. Not sure how "natural" it is to run distances. Even super fast animals only do it in very short bursts. Plus you use your arms a lot in cycling if you do anything more than pootle along.
  • I like boditrax for a long term trends and it motivates me - it is easy, it is there at the gym and using their scales once a week is stopping me jumping on and off daily at home -- but week on week it can fluctuate a bit wildly. The main thing that throws out the readings is your fluid balance. If I get a spike in on of…
  • Good vibe today. A woman I don't know very well at the gym remarked on my apparent weight loss which was nice to think that I have lost enough for other ppl to notice now. Then in the changing room a pal said "That dress is nice ... very slimming" - well you could take that as a bit of an insult, but I just thought the…
  • That literally brought a tear to my eye -- such a simple, lovely thing to happen. Great NSV!
  • That's what I do, it works a treat with parsnips - they are better for having less oil, I reckon.
  • I'd suggest fruit and veg and protein foods like eggs, fish etc. All gluten free.
  • Use a good local bike shop. In my experience this is the best way to get exactly what suits yr needs and yr budget They will also be helpful for repair and maintenance too. Dont buy tyres that are very wide / knobbly - they suck yr energy if you don't really plan to do really tough rough tracks.
  • It is not the binge that does the damage, it is the cycle of self-denigration (remorse and anger ) which can undo you. Don't beat yourself up about it, just get back on the programme.
  • How about you share a bit more about yourself? What might we have in common. Apart from being UK based, that is!
  • Nature or music, both of these help to make exercise more than just a grind. I am not depressed but getting on a treadmill seems like a dreary thing to me. Walking up high to see a view is good if you live where that is possible, the extra buzz from climbing and the reward of the view might help. I do cardio classes at the…
  • Right - you never heard of metaphor then?
  • Aw, man. that is a pity. I like the suggestions the others have made, and also would add: what you LOOK like is not the major benefit of such a huge weight loss. You have improved your HEALTH dramatically by reducing the strain on all of your organs and joints. Despite feeling glum about this, you have still probably…
  • Yep - used a bike as transport for my commute for most of my working life. I now cycle most weekends and plan holidays which are based on cycling. Have all sorts of bikes, tourer for everyday, carbon fibre for faster road riding and a new MTB to use in the forests near our new home. Also do spin classes at gym twice a…
  • This alone can alter a woman's weight by several pounds - you need to be aware of that and look at your progress as a long haul not a day by day or week by week thing. you managed to get to 279lbs on one meal a day? :/
  • I couldnt do that ... funny enough my missis just told me she has that climb on her list for this year with her club - but she is tiny and skips up everything .. At Applecross the max of 20% is only very short stretch, mostly it is not too severe, really. Well worth the jaunt
  • I have had endless arguments with the two voices in my head. I have recently learnt some stuff about how our brains work and this has helped me a lot to make sense of this apparent contradiction in my own head. Basically the bit that wants to indulge and eat all the time can be seen as a very primitive / animalistic bit of…
  • Good work -my personal cycling challenge this spring is to do the whole of the Applecross peninsula in Scotland this year. I might start a thread about that.
  • SadDolt, I am sorry that you are in this fix. There are all sort of suggestions in here already, and sooner or later you will settle on something that suits you. Weight gain and weight loss are vasty complicated issues, involving various aspects of our brain, our gut and our cultural patterns and personal habits. I agree…
  • Wow - what a transformation. Bravo. You must be so proud. Looking at yours start pic, you have some pretty chunky friends/family - did that make it harder to stay with the programme? I find that some other women find it hard to be suportive wehn I am really doing well on my programme.
  • I doubt it will set you lower than 1200, isnt that its lowest permitted setting? I guess you will either settle for a slowe weight loss as you get nearer your goal, or increase your energy expended .. or both!
  • MFP can really help you to get "wise" about your actual calorie intake. Just logging accurately will show you where you can trim a few calories off your weekly intake to halt / reverse your weight gain. Using reliable data and weighing your food will help. I suggest you use the data that has a green tick by it to show that…
  • Shower curtains? ick! I'd deffo leave that to one side .. or change gyms! :D
  • You will always have to do that. They are a bit random and don't carry the same range as bigger places ... But what they have is usually good prices - their frozen prawns are a steal compared to other shops and this week they had little bunches of asparagus (170g) for 59p. Also had mange tout and baby sweetcorn at that…
  • My way is not to do fasting at all -- it is too restrcitive for me and I also get bingey when I stop, which is totally counter-productive. Anything that feels too restrictive has a bad effect on my psychology, and can result in me actually eating more calories rather than less. I aim to exericse a lot and eat a lot too! I…
  • Superb. I love that photo of you on the barrel. What a pretty face you have revealled now. Brilliant effort. ETA --- not a barrel! All the weight you have lost! Wooo!
  • Man - you have done so well. It must be very hard to keep motivated for so long, but you have done it. You already showed that amazing strength of will. Maybe it is hard to keep giving yourself kudos for the "same thing" but it is a massive thing and you deserve to feel super-proud of yourself and try not to fall into the…
  • A lot mine is habits, and I have had my own lightbulb moment when I read some books about the psychology of habits. I have learnt to understand the different parts of my brain that literally argue with me. I never understood how I could repeatedly undermine myself by making crap choices despite all I know about nutrition…
  • Exactly the question I was going to ask.
