Beware. Your dietician is not basing their comments on science. Even the conservative charities around Diabetes have recently acknowledged that a low-carb, low calorie diet can CURE the condition for a huge percentage of patients. Check out diabetes charity websites. Previously doctors had NO cure for diabetes just…

Well. You could see it as losing the same 10lb repeatedly. Or you could see it as keeping yourself from adding 10lb a year and being 200lb overweight right now. Embrace that as an achievement in itself! I know what you mean, and I understand your anguish. I’m twice your age now and in my 20s weighed over 250lbs. I lost…

See - this is where you are wrong - and you do yourself a disservice by thinking "it's not fair!" ... because everyone who is skinny/slim pays some attention to maintaining that. They may not have the same struggle and it might be easier for some ppl than others, but we live surrounded by excess food in the modern world.…

E-bay. If you search for expensive brands and buy in sizes that you feel quite sure will fit you - you will find some great 2nd hand bargains to cheer up your look. You might never pay full price again. If the things don't fit you can just sell them on again at minimal loss.

I think this issue is mainly about how small the difference is between losing/ gaining and maintaining .. while it's obvious that eating huge calorie excesses will gain you weight, actually maintaining isn't very much different to losing .. and whatever you are doing now it what you will have to do FOREVER to maintain. And…

This reminded me that one of my current fave meatballs is a recipe made with 500g turkey thigh mince and 200g of courgette (Zuzzhini) with an egg and some herbs/seasonings etc - it's amazing how the veg blends in and adds bulk to the meatball without really being noticeable.

This is a good synopsis. I think people can under-estimate the life-limiting effects of NOT engaging with healthy eating and exercise. I am highly motivated by the desire to keep on doing the routine things I have taken for granted thus far in my life. not carrying too much weight and doing a variety of types of exercise…

Bump - any more for any more?

Sounds a good idea to set yourself benchmarks along the way and rewards that are not food related! Keep in touch.

Thanks for these lins, though it doesn't seem as though this particualr thread is quite ended yet - it's good to winkle out the other older-folk threads.

This is me doing a 2-up time trial last year. I'm the second rider. We are doing it again today. God help me, I'm a stone heavier this year!

Hi - I'm 60 - but only for another week! I'd like to join your gang. I have always been someone who struggles with being FAT. I am actually pretty good at weight loss, I have regularly lost significant amounts over the decades. BUT once I stop being 110% focussed I tend to creep up again pretty fast, mainly because I love…

Eating out is tricky, esp for me with family, cos that's usually setting off some emotional eating shizz too! I have been PLANNING for eating out recently. Thinking of strategies to portion control, especially on the carb-heavy elements. Having a plan that you try to stick to might help when faced with any decision making…

Ha, very similar to me! Looking at your profile I can see that you have done really well - inspiring too. Keep on keeping on, eh!

I really want to not be the fattest one in school reunion photos! It's nearly 50 years since we all started High School so there have been a lot of changes. As the original fatty of the class - I am now slimmer and fitter than some of my classmates. I think the habit of having to take care has been with me for years,…

did you never come back? I want to know how you would choose such a therapist?

It p's me off too - but waddling around into a disabled old-age would p. us both off more, so we have to relish the freedom that our fitness and health affords us without the high calorie intake! I am not actually 60 till Sept, so I am really hoping to be a dress size smaller by then - slimmer and fitter than ever as I…

Congratulations. Those seven years were well spent, and in my view this job is for life, it's not a race and the main goal is to reduce tail spins and maintain progress. Not getting bigger is a big-deal. Getting so much smaller and revealling the good looking guy underneath the chub must feel great. Bravo

I'm 60 this year, and cannot imagine posting pics of my abdo on the internet anytime soon ! Bravo - your chest looks good. It is true that everything tightens a bit after weight loss. Slower than it does when your're younger, but I reckon your skin will pull in a bit more! We do need less calories as we age - science fact…

Planning and cooking healthy meals takes time. We have kids and our fridge is full with pizzas and frozen tamales. My kids needs to eat differently, since they are picky and need 1600 cal a day to grow right. Plus my mother in law always leaves huge bottles of soda and potato chips around. I am not alone in the household.…

Eat fruit. You are probably over-sensitive to the noises yr gut makes. Just ignore it. If anyone else ever gives you the eye because of the rumbling you can just laugh it off. Or tell them they're lucky not to have a life-threatening bowel disorder. I speak as someone with 1/2 a gut missing. It's noisy. It's smelly. On the…

Thanks for your kindness, but only fair to say - my terminal diagnosis is a thing of the past, because my secondaries grew so slowly (I think helped by my holisitic self-care stuff) that they later offered my more surgery that they initially wouldn't consider because I had secondary tumours on both lungs at that time .. in…

I have lost lots of weight many times, and gradually re-gained some of it over time, everytime. I am not a "crazy" eater gorging on junk food and sweet drinks - never really have been - indeed what I eat is very healthy. It always was mainly based on food I prepped from scratch with lots of fresh ingredients and my intake…

Well yes, you can get therapy to help with that. but you might find self-help books a bit cheaper! Anything with a bit of CBT to challenge your old beliefs and shape some new ones. And join a gym with fun classes. Classes are the best place to connect with new friends. And chatting in the changing rooms. If you go same…

Yup. It's OK, I reckon I lost touch with a lot of boozy friends when I stopped drinking, years ago. Tbh they get rather boring as they get more drunk and more repetitive!! I am making new friends at the gym and my wife has joined a cycling club which has an active social side too. I am enjoying mixing with people who share…

Actually, that is a good point. I don't usually have wild rice in the house, but I could get some.

Thanks, Yes, green is probably best. Funny you don't like couscous. I hate quinoa! :D
-
Me too - bit of a high-risk strategy unless you have a tame dress-alterer on hand to make the last minute adjusmtents! I would think 20lbs at your height could easily be a whole dress size.

Seriously, this is why I record my vitals in centimetres - cos the changes are easier to observe!

One of the teachers at the gym, whom I see twice a week in her Body Balance classes, must have just suddenly noticed my progress. Maybe cos we were in the changing rooms, not in the classroom - I dunno - anyway she really exclaimed "Wooo, look at you!" Which is all she said, but, you know, it was enough! :D
