That's the one I saw!

Yep, there are a lot of purists on here. All the new exercises you describe are good compound lifts, I see no reason not to do them. I do pull-ups and incline bench myself and find them worthy additions to sl, I had to cut back on the squats and deadlifts to include them, but then it's my upper body that needs most of the…

I saw a documentary about people who deliberately eat low calorie constantly, with the hope of living longer, since studies of rats show them living twice as long on a low calorie diets. Anyway, one of the things they would do was peel their fruit, and just eat the peel, saying this was where the micronutrients were and…

Thanks everyone, I was just wondering if I was missing something from the argument for eating low-carb, wondering if fat you eat sits in your stomach for longer or something.

classic version and moderation for most things, especially cheese, ice cream, jam (the low fat/low sugar versions of these I find awful). For coke though I always go for diet coke or coke zero.

you can do too much exercise, but the symptoms are noticeable and you haven't described that you're getting any: tiredness (obvious) high heart-rate at rest more frequent colds/infections So you should be fine with what you're doing.

agree with everything posted above. I find just watching my calorie and protein goals, and letting the fats and carbs take care of themselves works for me.
-
I like them, but can't explain why. I admit it is a weird thing to like.

yeah, was it Freelee claiming this by any chance? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRuytGHlpNc I reckon they just burn it off with exercise and general activity, or are overestimating their calorie intake. You can fiddle with macros and meal size timings to optimize your metabolism if you want, but at the end of the day…

Got a cold myself now, I didn't feel quite right in Sunday but went ahead and did my full body weights routine anyway - I'm wondering now if it's what pushed me over the edge - would my immune system have brushed it off if I hadn't done that workout? Impossible to know, but I definitely won't do weights again unless I feel…

Good point your last one, my favourite author Douglas Adams died from a heart attack on the treadmill at home. No one there to help him.

"I feel like if I don't run every day 10-15 km I will lose my cardio " - no chance, you could run that every other day and maintain or improve your cardio fitness (depending how hard you push it). Rest days are essential for everyone.

Perhaps there are some metabolic advantages of one over the other - similar to meal size/frequency/timing, but I think whatever is comfortable and convenient for you trumps any such benefit - would you really want to manage you meals in a way totally inconvenient to you for sake of being able to eat an extra cookie each…

I understand why you didn't find much information, diets like this tend to advertise themselves as "you don't have to count calories" - as if counting grams of fat and carbs was any less effort
-
No, I plan to stay within a 5 kilo weight range, and if I go above or below will count calories until I'm back in the middle of the range. I hope this isn't too often
-
If you can keep portion sizes under control and avoid snacking then you won't need to count - much easier said than done though for many of us.
-
It sounds like you're already onto a winner, don't worry about your weight. Have you tried monitoring body fat % instead?

As an objective observer I can say that California is where it's at.

It works for a lot of people I know, but didn't work for me as I would splurge on my non-fast days and wipe out any calorie deficit I had created (for me just maintaining a small calorie deficit each day works best). The 5:2 diet (like many heavily marketed diets) claims you don't have to 'count calories' - but this isn't…

Yep, just keep posting updates and questions as you go, you may find you need to tweak things here and there along the way (calories, rest days, number of sets/reps,...), and your priorities may change.

hi Jason, sent!

Agreed, I wouldn't do a bicep only day either, mine get enough from chin ups and rows - but then I don't know what the OPs precise goals are - to get big particularly big I guess!
-
Yeah, stronglifts is a great one for beginners, but I was assuming the op had his reasons for deciding on a split to begin with and just wanted reassurance that he'd still make gains doing it. Regarding the calories, the question is whether a newbie who wants to lose fat and gain muscle should start on a bulk or a cut, I…
-
Hi, There is an endless debate about the merits of split routines (like you're doing) and full body routines (where you do everything each session), and how many rest days you should take. As a beginner you're likely to get some great newbie gains whichever you do, so I would stick with what you're doing and see how you…

welcome! be seeing you around!

I'm not surprized, it's crazy how often I see people on these forums coming down like a ton of bricks on fairly innocent questions/suggestions. (not trying to excuse an earlier post I made btw - I did deserve that).

Optimistical was just being a bit tongue-in-cheek. I have met people like that though (as regards their shopping) - it used to be that people boasted about how much money they spent, now they boast about the bargains they get. I think it's gone too far though - dirt cheap usually requires miserable pay and working…

This is the best value protein powder I can find: http://www.myprotein.com/sports-nutrition/impact-whey-protein/10530943.html £13 for 1 kg, 80% protein - which is pretty good for whey concentrate (whey isolate has a higher %, but is more expensive) Tastes nicer with milk, but is still drinkable when mixed with water.
