  • One thing to keep in mind is that right now you have more muscle than you would at a lower weight at the same activity level. You are effectively carrying around X pounds of weights all day (X being however many extra pounds you want to lose) and your body has built up the muscles to handle that. As you start to lose…
  • A couple months ago I was lifting weights and felt some discomfort in the top of my shoulder. I mostly felt it when raising my arm above shoulder height or reaching behind my back. I decided to stop lifting for a week or two so that it could heal, however after 2 months it was not any better and I finally went to see a…
  • Today I was walking to my car and I thought my arm was dirty. When I tried to brush the dirt off, I realized that it wasn't dirt, but the shadow cast by a clearly defined muscle on my forearm.
  • I've run in two local 5Ks so far. I ran the first in 34:38 and the second in 33:19. In both races I finished before over 50% of the participants. This fits well with what some other people told me - a 12 min/mile pace will put you in about the middle of the pack for a 5K. In both the races there were people who finished in…
  • Three weeks ago I ran my first 5K and finished in 34:38. This was right around when I finished C25K. Today I ran my second 5K and finished 1:19 faster (33:19) despite the higher temperature (it was 74 F for the first race and 82 F today). Sadly, I forgot to push the last button to start recording on my Garmin Forerunner at…
  • I was running about 12 minute miles in workouts but when I ran my first 5K (right at the end of C25K) I averaged 11:09 per mile.
  • Hi cobes24, I walk/jog 8-15 miles almost every day, occasionally I walk up to 17-18 miles (usually on a weekend day). I started walking in mid-December and eventually progressed to C25K (which I recently completed). I jog 5-6 miles every other day and then walk enough to make my total mileage exceed 10 miles. On opposite…
  • I just finished C25K and it was a great help. I can now jog 4 miles without a break. When you do it, don't focus on running fast. From what I understand, most people can't run a 5k in 30 minutes by the time they finish (I certainly can't, I've just reached 12 minutes per mile). Even during C25K you should slow down your…
  • Don't try to jog every day if you are just starting to run. You can injure yourself if you try to do too much too quickly. Alternate between walking and jogging. Also, if you are out of breath while jogging, you are running too fast. Slow down.
  • Ouch! Thanks, I will check it out.
  • Thanks, I will look into this one.
  • If it was just the toes it probably wouldn't be too bad, but when it's your toes, heels and sides of your feet (he has wide ones) I can see how it would be uncomfortable.
