  • That's wonderful and by the look of your hubby he came along for the ride in support. 🙂
  • To keep me motivated, for every pound I lose each week I will put that amount, in cash, in a jar, then at the beginning of next year I hope to have enough saved to have a relaxing spa day :-)
  • Go for a 30 minute walk to stretch yourself out. When you get back have a long soak in the bath with some nice music, or read a book. Give yourself a break once a week. Happy Christmas.
  • Sorry my tablet is playing up and messed up a bit of the previous message but think you can pick up the gist of it
  • What happened a year ago that set you off on your current path? There's usually a reason behind it. To deal with the present; you are not pathetic. Anyone who hasn't been in your situation can't possibly understand the turmoil going on in your head. Is it possible for the rest of your family to join in with a healthy…
  • You know what? Life is too short. Enjoy your holiday. It's only a couple of weeks out of the whole year. Eat sensible without stressing about it. Get lots of walking and swimming in. You'll probably lose weight LOL.
  • You could take your own food if it has a buffet. Otherwise, eat beforehand so you only have to nibble on something small. Steer clear of the pastries and cakes. TBH most parties I've been to provide some sort of salad, plain meats like ham and chicken and fruit options. If you know the organiser perhaps you could have a…
  • I live in the North East too in a small village with little lighting. I've got a decent breathable waterproof jacket and shoes, plus a good lightweight torch so I have no excuses for getting out there. That's not to say I don't make them ;-)
  • For people like me who have joint issues, you might like to get hold of Rebecca Wheatley's the new me workout video. Does me a treat along with a weekly deep water aquarobics class and walking.
  • Have you tried herbal infusions? You will probably have to phaff about to start with to find what you like as they are an acquired taste but they make a good alternative.
  • I'm allergic to orange pith so I have to wear a mask if anyone peels it in the same room. Strangely I can consume them and I don't have a problem with satsumas, yea go figure. I certainly wouldn't stop anyone enjoying one on my account. When I was working as a health and safety issue all staff were asked to bring in their…
  • You need to come off caffeine gradually as it's like an addictive drug. If you go cold turkey you can cause all sorts of problems for yourself. Cut down over a period of weeks then you should be OK. The first week have half a cup instead of a full one when you usually have it, the second week cut out every other one, the…
  • Ho hum, well I'll keep going with my aquarobics, DVD workout and walking and hope that it eventually shifts. Thanks for all your replies X
  • Good idea from Runaroundafield
  • Do you still have issues? Has eating become a habit? You need to address the reasons why you end up binging. I yoyod for years until my health gave me a kick up the backside. Don't leave it til that point. Address the underlying problems. Go see your doctor or well woman clinic. They can do health referrals to kickstart…
  • What about taking some carrot sticks to work with you to tuck in your pocket. When you feel the urge to nibble have one of them instead. Keep a bottle of water to hand and drink plenty. Also take a meal with you from home, it's OK to eat fast food as a treat but over time the calories will add up. Most of all don't worry…
  • Alden7492 - Thank you for your constructive comments. I have tried the alarm method, when I was working, and it worked fine. Since I've had IBS it has been a struggle but I have settled on 4 glasses a day plus a couple of herbal teas. I was also drinking before a meal to help me eat less......I've now stopped doing that as…

  • Just used the recipe calculator, great tool. Thanks for enlightening me as I thought you could only import online recipes :-)
  • No, I'm trying to drink the recommended 8 glasses a day but I can't seem to quite manage it

  • I usually have 1 as soon as I get up in the morning, a cup of herbal tea with breakfast, 1 glass of water with lunch and dinner then another at bedtime. Anything over that that is causing me problems.

  • Hi, I started out 4 days ago and it's a battle but I've found that logging everything and writing in my blog everyday is helpful, it seems to get my head straight. I've begun my journey because, like you, I'm early 60s and my weight (I've got 4 stone to lose) is affecting my health so we need to get with the program buddy.…
  • I'm the same, if I'm not nudged into it, so what I have done is set up an hourly alarm (with suitable dingaling) on my mobile. I haven't quite managed to get to the full 8 glasses yet, but not far off, as sometimes I feel so bloated I just can't manage anymore. Hope this strategy works for you. Also I would just like to…
