On Wednesday I was able to actually wear the size 6 jeans! I wore them most of the day comfortably the whole time. This pair of jeans will continue to be my gauge for maintenance. If they start to get too tight, I will know I need to cut back on my calories. And...yesterday I saw 124.7 on the scale. I have reached my goal…

In total agreement. You're never too old! I am 70 years old and over the last 2 years, I have lost 115 lbs. I do exactly as you....pre-log my food and make changes as necessary. I'm going into maintenance now. For me, I think it will be important to log daily for years to come. I also am hypothyroid, controlled with…

What fantastic role models for all of us!

For me, I try to keep sweets out of the house. If they are there for my husband I ask him to keep them on a high pantry shelf. However, after almost 2 years I am much better at resisting them. Have other low calorie filling snacks available. Fruit is a great substitute for sweets. I also like popcorn. Greek yogurt is also…

An increase in salt usually means an increase in weight. It's water retention, not fat, and should fall off in a couple of days, at most a week, if you go back to eating your normal diet

Thank you @springlering62 and @AnnPT77. Both of you give great advice. Ann, I agree that adequate recovery time is so necessary, especially at our age. Just another factor in the fitness equation, and I will be sure to keep that in mind, so as to be able to continue to progress and avoid injury. I will soon be…

Hi, @lindalake8 . You're doing great! Everyone here has given you great advice. You can do this. Remember that weight loss is not linear and an increase in water weight can mask fat loss. Some weeks you might not lose anything or even gain according to the scale. Don't panic. Take your measurements every month. Is your…

@springlering62 Yes, it does sound like a lot of exercise. A lot more than I currently do. Lol. From other posts I have read of yours, I knew you did a lot. I love love love my aqua aerobics classes! I have done aqua classes for about 20 years off and on, and even taught them for about 5 years. However, the aqua bells I…

Yes! I, also, could not do this comfortably when I was heavy. I find myself doing it all the time now

@springerling62. You give all of us older women hope that we can build muscle. Although I am 10 years older than you, (I think, assuming the 62 at the end of your name is the year you were born), I am hoping to build back some of the muscle I have lost over decades of yo-yo dieting with no strength training and of course…

I am having to buy a whole new wardrobe for spring/summer this year. For the last 2 years I have been able to go down through the various sizes I already had in my closet. With some exceptions for seasonal differences, I haven't had to buy a whole lot until now. Last month when I decided to try on my last summer's clothes…

Great job! You look awesome! Congrats!

The mental aspect of weight loss is so important! It's that click in your head that suddenly makes losing weight important enough to make you committed enough actually succeed! It has to be more important than any short term pleasure you get from eating in excess. Congratulations on your weight loss, a year of maintenance,…

Today I saw 126 on the scale for the first time! I said that would be my final goal weight but I am changing this to a range of 125 plus or minus 3 lbs. Before I start increasing my calories to maintenance I want to see that I am at this 126 or less consistently just to make sure it's not a fluke. I have only seen this…

Wow @momzilla11 ! You have had a hard first 4 months of 2023. Glad you're getting back to normal and starting to get back in the groove! Kudos to you for doing so!

First weigh-in today since before our Las Vegas trip. I was totally surprised. I weighed 126.0 lbs! Before our trip, I weighed 127.4. I had been stuck at 127.4-128 range for 5 weeks so this drop of 1.4 lbs was unexpected. Although it doesn't seem logical to me, I have a couple of theories: 1. The diet break coupled with…

I agree with this 100%.

@karlschaeffer We love Hawaii!! Our favorite place to vacation. In 2015 my husband started fulfilling a bucket list item of his to bike all 4 of the major Hawaiian Islands. In 2015, he biked Kauai, in 2017, Oahu, in 2019, Maui. Then covid hit. Finally in Oct 2022, he fulfilled his dream, by biking the Big Island of Hawaii.

I am almost ready to switch to maintenance myself and I do understand your anxiety about it. I am a little nervous myself. I have lost weight many times in the past but have never been able to maintain the loss. For me, based on my own experience I do not think I do well with not logging. It is way too easy to go over on…

We got back from Las Vegas late Saturday night. Counting travel days we were gone for 8 days. I did not weigh when I got back because I was definitely retaining water from the flight, and probably a lot of extra salt and carbs. I ate above maintenance for the week, and that's after increasing my activity level from "not…

I cook brisket quite often as it is a family favorite. My mom had a recipe that I use The brisket is marinated in spices and barbecue sauce and then wrapped in heavy aluminum foil, then refrigerated overnight. The next day it is cooked slowly in the oven for several hours. My mom used to cook prime rib occasionally, but…

Fantastic accomplishment! Congrats!

Hello, @Slpannell1. Welcome to the thread. We are all here to support and encourage each other. I am pretty close to you in age and the amount of weight I had to lose. I am 70, female and started out at 240 lbs. I, too, in the beginning felt overwhelmed with the idea of losing so much weight. I am here to tell you it is…

@ridiculous59 Yes, we are prepared that it will be more expensive. We used to go to 2 or 3 shows each time we went, but prices have gone up so much we may or may not go to any this time. I'm also mental prepared to gain a couple pounds because of the food. And I always gain water weight when flying. Probably will wait a…

@AnnPT77 . Yep, understand those dynamics between Fathers and Daughters.

@AnnPT77 I hear you about having yo wait on statements. One of ours got here on March 10th this year but that was the latest. I had all the rest entered ( I use TurboTax also) so that was all that was left to do. That's really late the year you didn't get it until April 15. Yeah, extensions are the way to go with that kind…
-
@AnnPT77 . Oh my gosh , Ann, you are down to the wire on those taxes. Hope you're almost done. I'm glad I finished up mine in March. Less stress. Loved the pics of your flowers coming up. I would love to be more of a gardener but I definitely don't have a green thumb.

Hi everyone! Yes, it has been awhile since anyone has posted. I had bronchitis 3 weeks ago and ended up on prednisone. While that stuff works a miracle to open up my lungs and clear the inflammation, it does have its side effects. I had a very hard time sleeping at night since I had to take it twice a day. Also, during the…

It took me a while to see the changes. But I was 240 lbs and just 5' 3.5". It also took a while before I went down a size. Partly because you have to lose more when you are heavier to go down a size and partly because my clothes were pretty tight on me when I started. Now that I have lost 112 lbs I have noticed it only…

Excellent advice. Very insightful. You have truly grasped the best and healthiest way to lose weight and keep it off.
