  • I agree with @Melwillbehealthy. You are an inspiration! I also have learned a lot from your posts. I hope to be able to post similar success on my 8 year anniversary! And it's a definite win!
  • Welcome @LolaGatto . So sorry about your injury. Start slowly and weigh and record ALL your food. After you are better and your doc gives you the go ahead you can add in exercise. I started with just walking a few minutes a day and built from there. Don't get discouraged. Slow weight loss is best, and it will help you…
  • Beautiful @BCLadybug888 ! You go on so many wonderful trips! You should be a travel agent!
  • I have not found that losing weight has been any more difficult now, at age 70, than it was when I was younger. Maybe less difficult because I have less stress and time constraints now that I am retired and also no longer have caregiving responsibilities for either children ( now grown) or elderly parents ( passed away). I…
  • Wow! Awesome accomplishment! Congrats!
  • @pony4us Yes, weighing is important also. In the past, when life got in the way, not only did I go off my food plan, I stopped weighing myself too. I will not do that this time. I will continue to weigh forever.
  • @marci320. That BP was really kind of a fluke, I think. Since then it's been running in the range of 115/65. I'm happy it's staying down since going off the amlodipine. I really do hope I can get off the Losartan as well. I think if it stays down that could happen.
  • Thank you @SummerSkier. I also believe flexibility is important. I am enjoying having a few more calories to eat. I plan to keep an eye on it and cut back or increase as I need to. For me tracking will be very important at least for a while, maybe forever. I do know myself, and it's very easy for me to gain it back if I'm…
  • @springlering62 and @BlondieJenn75 You both have very nice legs!
  • Thank you @herringboxes. @JaysFan82 I understand exactly how you feel. I, also, have been trying or wanting to lose weight most of my life. I was in my 20s when I was last at the weight I am now. About 45 years ago.
  • Oh my gosh, @BCLadybug888, thank you so much! Remember, you can't fail so long as you never give up! Even if it takes longer than you hope for, you're here, and you're committed. You can do it! Talking of flies, we had the same thing going on when we had the grandkids here. We were in and out the patio door so much,…
  • Doctor is taking me off one of my blood pressure meds and cautiously taking me off my cholesterol medication (with the caveat that we monitor it with blood tests every 3 mo)
  • Oh yes, @ThisMagicMoment! I firmly believe you can lose weight at any age. It takes discipline and consistency, but it can be done. Don't do anything you can't sustain for the rest of your life and build new habits that you can rely on to keep you on track. Don't make it too difficult on yourself. You can do it!
  • @marci320 Thank you for your kind words. HaHa, yeah, I don't want to faint either. I almost did one day. My blood pressure was really low this morning , 95/54. I took it 3 times to see if it was a fluke. That's the lowest it's been. And that's after 5 days of cutting out a half pill of the amlodipine. I'm off of it…
  • @Evamutt. Hello and welcome back. I saw your story also about your job in the hospital and working conditions there. Glad you were able to leave as well. Hospitals are so understaffed. It must have been a nightmare. Did you retire or did you find another job?
  • Hello to all new people. I haven't posted here or even logged in to the community for a few weeks and I am trying to get caught up. I have been logging food and exercise, I just haven't been keeping up with all the posts. There are so many new people, I will introduce myself. My name is Patti. I think my original post is…
  • @AnnPT77 Thank you. That does make it simpler. Maybe an educated trial and error approach is the easiest way to go. I think I'll add 250 calories to my base calories and see if that works. I can always cut back a little if I start gaining too much. I'm actually glad I'll be able to have more calories than I thought. When…
  • Thank you @chris_in_cal. I often did wonder if it was possible for me to lose that much weight. I credit the MFP community for giving me the advice, support, and encouragement to help me stay on track. I have lost lots of weight before but never this much, and it eventually all came back. Having a plan to maintain is new…
  • @pony4us. I just got to my maintenance goal 8 wks ago and I think it's a learning experience determining my real maintenance calorie level. I'll get it figured out
  • Thank you @pony4us. You may be right about being a little too low in weight. However, after decades of yo-yo dieting my muscle mass has declined a lot and I still am holding a lot of fat around my middle. My waist size is 4 inches more than it was when I weighed 130 over 20 years ago. ( It doesn't help that I am an inch…
  • What type of activity interests you? Doing something you enjoy or at least don't hate is the best exercise because you're more likely to stick with it. Your knee issues and being 100 lbs over weight do limit you however. I also was more than 100 lbs over weight when I started. I had joint pain as well but in particular…
  • @springlering62. I vote for recomp. I don't have any experience with it but if you're waist is smaller and you're arms and legs a bit bigger with no change in weight it would seem you are losing some fat while gaining muscle. Also, if you are hungry maybe you do need to eat back your exercise calories. Your body is trying…
  • Wow, Jeff!! Awesome!! You've done a fantastic job
  • @alteredsteve175 Hang in there. Do what you can to relieve stress and find support. We're here to listen if you just need to vent. Take care of yourself.
  • Calorie counting...no other restrictions. All of the above will work so long as they are done with a calorie deficit. Some people find it easier to stick to their deficit by using one of the above methods but for me having the freedom to choose any food I like so long as it falls within my calorie budget works best for me.
  • You can definitely gain water weight with a salty meal like you described with the Chinese buffet. Even if you stayed within your calorie limit. And al.ost everyone gains with the hormonal ebb and flow of their cycle. Don't worry. These are very common occurrences. The water retention will go away.
  • In addition to all the above....Greek Yogurt
  • I log everything. It's even more important now that I'm in maintenance and dialing in my maintenance calories. I know I'd be gaining weight if I didn't log the 200-300 calories of fruit and vegetables a day. I also I'm paying a lot more attention to my macros now. Before weight loss I hardly ever ate a lot of fruits and…
  • Yes, all the above. However, what works for me if I have an extra long workout is the bring along a high fiber or protein snack. Today I brought a banana with me. That gave me enough energy and was filling enough that I did not become energy depleted or become famished during my exercise. I like things that are easy to…
  • Good to see all the updates from everyone! @BCLadybug888 I knew that extra 2 lbs would disappear! I know some people that are on Ozempic. They have also complained of the nausea feeling. They also mentioned a feeling of fullness which is I guess how it works so you don't want to eat as much. Just report all your symptoms…
