I am 70 years old and as of this week I have lost 100.8 pounds. Being older does not mean you cannot lose the weight. You can do it! Be diligent with your logging and weigh your food on a food scale. I have found it very helpful to read and participate in this community forum. There are so many experienced, knowledgeable…

@BCLadybug888. Thank you, and you are so right, it is so much easier doing so many things. It's easier to move in general. I used to wake up every morning with lower back pain that gave me trouble just walking around. Getting up off the floor, seatbelts, and all the things you have mentioned are much easier now. I feel so…

@momzilla11 It's always fun to discover new activities and interests you can do when your physical limitations have decreased because of your healthier lifestyle, isn't it?

@Jthanmyfitnesspal Those are all great goals. I think its nice to be striving to improve yourself in various ways. @AnnPT77 I think what you said about getting the switch to flip on in your head is really the key to success at anything. "It has to be important enough to really want to work at it." That is so true. For me,…

@momzilla11 Thank you! I do wonder if 126 is attainable and sustainable for me. But it is a goal to shoot for. If along the way I decide I'm happy where I'm at then so be it! What is important is to be as healthy as possible for me, and to have the best quality of life I can have.

As of today I have lost over 100 lbs! I weighed in today at 139.2. I still would like to lose 10- 15 more pounds but not sure of my final goal yet. I have always thought that a 22 BMI would be a good goal to strive for which would put me at 126 lbs. I have not been that weight in over 45 years so we shall see.

Hitting the 100 lb weight loss goal was a big one for me. I'm now going to break down my goals into 5 lb increments. I think I have between 10-15 lbs to go but just not sure where I'll finally end up. A 22 BMI seems like a good goal to reach for. That would be 126 lbs. I have not been at that weight since my mid-twentys,…

Stay warm everyone. This morning it was the coldest wind chill ever recorded for our city! Brrrr! @BCLadybug888 I envy you right now on that cruise. Have fun!

I have a swimsuit with the tags still on it that I purchased almost 9 years ago ( the last time I was down close to this weight). It's a size 12. My size 14 has been feeling kinda big on me but I wasn't sure if it was just getting stretched out or I had lost enough weight that it was really too big. I tried that swimsuit…

If you know ahead of time what you will be eating for dinner or snacks, log it ahead of time. If it changes you can go back in and edit it to what or how much you actually ate. Sometimes if I know what I'm eating the next day I will log it the night before. It helps me keep within my calorie allotment and let's me know how…

@BCLadybug888 Everything you said above is so true and very insightful. Those non-scale victories are so motivating. A year and a half ago I could not get up off the floor without holding on to a piece of furniture and now I can get right up. Tying shoes, seat belts on airplanes, even, dare I say it, toileting, has become…

@ridiculous59. Yes, slow and steady is probably the best way, especially to maintain muscle mass. Everyone has to find what works best for them. In the beginning I was very focused and hardly ever indulged, an approach that let me see immediate rewards. I'm starting to relax more and let myself have a piece of pie or cake…

On a positive note @BCLadybug888, losing weight very slowly like you are doing will help you maintain more muscle mass. Because of years of yo-yo dieting and no strength training I have lost muscle mass. I am also losing bone density. I have started strength training now, but it's better to keep from losing it in the first…

@BCLADYBUG888 So sorry, I never meant to make anyone feel bad about their own journey but only to encourage those that might be in the same boat I was. But I also want you to know I understand where you are and have been there, too. So many times I have started and lost 10 or 20 pounds and then lost focus and gained it…

I also have asthma and mild COPD which complicates any respiratory infection I get but otherwise is under control with medication.

I started back on MFP on August 1, 2021 at 240 lbs, my highest weight ever. I also had some health challenges. I have high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and hypothyroidism. Also a few months after starting I ended up with severe vertigo due to a bad sinus/ upper respiratory infection that took several months and…

Thank you @ridiculous59.

@Fit2btied2016 Thank you for your kind words and encouragement. It's so important to remember to Never Give Up! Sometimes weight loss will stall or go up for a while but persevering will get you to your goal. Congrats to you on reaching a 12 year low!

I reached a milestone today. I have finally reached a healthy BMI of 24.9. It feels so good after being so heavy for so long. When I started my BMI was 41.8. That's into Obese level 3. While I know there are many issues around relying on BMI as a guide, to have finally reached a healthy weight means so much.

I am so in agreement with all of you. I, too, have found weight loss easier now at age 70 than when I was younger! So true when you say retirement makes it easier. Less stress, no more long hours working. Caregiver responsibilities for children and then elderly parents no longer take up our time! Time to concentrate on my…

Great plan @momzilla11. With your planning and consistency I'm sure you'll get there!

@ridiculous59. I hear you on cooking just enough or freezing food. I try to do the same thing.

Good to hear from you @alteredsteve175. That pie can be hard to resist! With all you're dealing with, maintaining your weight is a definite win in my book! Welcome to all the newbies! I think you will find this to be a very supportive thread. About throwing away food. I think many of us here grew up with parents who lived…

Welcome @rustyvicinie!

@H1L5 you've come to the right place! There are several of us over the age of 70 posting on this thread. I have found so much support and inspiration here. I myself turned 70 in October so I am close to your age. Sounds like you have done a great job losing the weight. I totally understand the yo yo dieting myself. Been…

I agree @AnnPT77 . Common sense, moderation, and patience. I should have also mentioned another goal I have....Avoid injury. So important as we get older. You are right- we don't bounce back from over doing or injuries as easily as we did when we were younger.

Thanks @AnnPT77 . I will continue to post updates on my progress every few weeks in hopes that it could help others in the 60+ age range and get also to get additional advice from others more experienced than I. My goal right now is to keep as much muscle as possible while I am still in a calorie deficit. I still have…
