One thing I've heard that resonates with me personally is that health is 60% sleep, 30% diet, 10% exercise. Philosophically (not scientifically) I have to ask: what is the point of a 'healthy' weight if you don't healthy-exercise? (Is it health if it's not the whole picture?) Also, what is the point of exercise if you…

I don't know what it is about a cup of lower-sugar cereal, 1% milk, and a banana that totally gets me through to lunch. I can have the same calories, or slightly more, of something else and I have to put more effort into getting to lunchtime. I have some unscientific guesses, but haven't found a reason good enough to share…

At one point I would have had 110 lbs to lose to get to the generic 'optimal' weight by height, although I would have been happy with my weight having lost just 80 lbs. It has been almost 15 years of steady 3-7 lbs per year loss for me and I'm now just about 10 lbs shy of my goal. I didn't lose the weight fast enough to…

Taking a break from logging leads to a longer break from logging. I think of logging as being a good habit and see a 'break' from logging as being a 'break' from my other good habits. I learned from previous laxness in logging that I cannot rely on how I feel about what I'm eating to control my intake. I've also learned…

For a one-time experience, it's almost always food poisoning. If it keeps happening whenever you ingest fatty foods, the likely culprit is gallstones.

It's excellent progress. I've had entire years where I only lost five pounds.

Every day. For science.

The most supportive thing was my buddy no longer asking me to go to the Brazilian steakhouse every month. We only experience death-by-meat once a year now.

I am hungry right now. My body is fairly smart and cannot be tricked. It knows when it has enough calories to play with and when I'm not filling up. Through practice and time I've habituated myself to keeping to my calorie goals. Dieting to lose weight is very hard. This community will be here to support you and some of…

I believe you are not accurately counting calories, however, my understanding is that since you aren't losing weight on your current intake, your doctor is suggesting that you reduce your intake by 1/3rd. If you want to try this, I suggest tapering your level of intake over the next week to reduce down gradually. In the…

I agree with all of the above posters, both scales are off. With luck, each scale is consistent with itself, so if you stick with one of them, over time, they will tell you how much you've lost.

To directly quote the Mayo Clinic: "Check with your doctor or health care provider before starting any weight-loss diet, especially if you have any health conditions." http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/weight-loss/in-depth/mayo-clinic-diet/art-20045460 If you want to ridiculously argue with the Mayo Clinic, be my…

An initial rush in weight loss when beginning a dietary reduction is not uncommon. A reduction in electrolyte intake (sodium, potassium, etc.,) and good bowel movements can push a lot of junk and retained water out of your body. I would be concerned if this rate of weight loss continued over another few more weeks. Are you…

The calorie counts on many menus only deal with the main entree and not the sides, condiments, or other things that come in the order.

I suggest tapering. If you control it and get it down to consistently 1600 a day, do it. You can then taper once you have a handle on it. It's a lot easier going from 2000 to 1600 to 1400 than it is trying to go straight from 2000 to 1400.

I would think about how much messing with my circadian rhythm and sleep is changing the difficulty level in eating well and keeping off weight. It sounds like you have a lot to think about.

Every time I see a super decadent dessert, I think to myself: "aw, nuts!" And that has been working pretty well for my diet.

I once was a little constipated and in the few days it took to fully resolve I lost nearly six pounds. Stuff happens. Also, if you eat a bunch of salty stuff or suffer seasonal allergies you could just be retaining fluids.
-
If the only thing that has changed is eating less of the same food, you might consider eating a little more, then tapering off your intake to the desired level. Also, if you're at a computer more, the culprit is most likely eye strain and you should reduce the brightness of your monitor.

Doctors, you know, real medical professionals, disagree with you and I'll go with their published expertise over your opinion.

If you are actually only taking in 2200 calories, the scale will give you a different number eventually. Keep working it and you'll get results. If I were you I would not go lower than 2200 calories without consulting a doctor who may give you very different advice.

Depends on the cause. If you're cutting back on Coca Cola or sugary Starbucks, it might be caffeine withdrawal. You may need to watch your electrolyte intake or hydrate more as headaches can be a symptom of dehydration. You may just be getting a cold or something. Is there anything else you can tell us about what you're…

Generally speaking, there is a wealth of published medical literature, studies, and literal quotations from real medical doctors that state essentially that you should consult a physician when beginning any weight loss plan. So you should probably do it.

I don't tell anyone very much about controlling my weight. I've steadily lost weight every year for the last 15 years at a rate of about 3-8 lbs per year. People that are in my life tell me all sorts of things from the genuinely hostile to the angelic fist bump. Overall, I think that people are generally trying to be…

Unfortunately, yes. I do not walk around all day, every day with a mask connected to gas mix sensors in a vacuum insulated room that measures internal heat. But more importantly, nor does anyone else.

I believe you are eating too much and exercising too hard. You may want to try lowering the intensity of your workout and building the intensity from a baseline you are comfortable with. Finally, it's really hard to be honest with yourself when you are counting calories. The menu board at subway may say that the cold cut…

Really sounds more like a stomach bug than anything else. Hydrate with some electrolyte water! See a doctor if your symptoms worsen or you develop a fever.

It's an indirect 'measurement' of association with average heart rate (when I'm monitoring), activity level, and how cold I feel.

I find that chilis not only work well but reheat well. Beef chili, bean chili, chicken chili, etc. You can also serve them over various carbs such as rice, pasta, bread, mashed potatoes, etc.

I know a lot of people that use heavy weights but couldn't do a simple overhead press without any weight 200 times without stopping to rest. Strength and endurance are related, but they are not the same thing. For functional strength, it's recommended that you do both a high number of reps with what you can manage and a…
