Totally agree with Lourdesong. Let's imagine that rather than sparing you only a fleeting glance before getting on with concentrating on their own stuff, instead these guys have a good old laugh. In fact, after being at the gym, they sit on the bus all the way home, chuckling about it. In FACT, when they get home they have…

Anybody who posts after me will jinx themselves and their loved ones FOREVER AND EVER

Take a can of chickpeas and spread them in a single layer on a baking tray. Sprinkle with salt and cayenne pepper or chilli flakes and bake in oven for 30-45 mins at around 180, checking a lot. The browner/more cooked ones go wonderfully crunchy and the less well cooked are chewy. Lovely for snacking mndlessly during a…

This is a nifty turn of phrase.

I agree holly_roman. I understand "tough love" but easy tigers! X

Equine college eh! You must be used to having thighs of steel!! Re: where to start re: weightlifting, I am only just starting myself, so don't feel well placed to advise. However, many love New Rules of Lifting for Women. I actually preferred the Stronglift 5x5 website because of the YouTube demos. However, I eventually…

I know. I was a total non-believer, til I tried it!!

I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment here. However, I think it is also important to be realistic. I'm all for being kind to yourself, but "head-in-the-sand" is potentially unhealthy. Always love YOURSELF....yes. Always love what you look like....debateable.

Love this in our botox obsessed world!

Well done on a successful start. Keep it up!

I have huge thighs too, due to playing field hockey all through my teens (and genes of course). I've loved ballet exercises to help the thigh and butt area (and believe me- for a hockey girl to say she likes "ballet", it's got to be serious, right? Seriously though - it is TOUGH and I sweat way more doing that than…

Fitting into my nicest clothes again is a huge motivation for me. Sad but true. I have lovely clothes and I'm too fat to feel good in them like I once did. I think I'm a bit like you - probably with not an awful lot to lose, so it is hard for others to understand your motivation and they immediately jump to "big A"…

Sounds trivial, but mine was having to change out of my normal jeans in the evenings into jogging bottoms (sweatpants?) because my jeans were too uncomfortable to sit and relax in. I was somebody having to change into "fat clothes" - every night. Not good. Not only is this a practical issue (I'm not going to go out and…

Loved this clgaram720!

Also - maybe find some good exercises using your own body-weight, online - fitness blender is good and the like. These are great for doing in a hotel room if you're stuck somewhere without a gym OR if you haven't got the motivation to work out at the gym by yourself (at least with instruction, you don't have to THINK as…

Good point. Thank you jslarsen1971

When there's a lot going on, it is easy to be overwhelmed. If you truly don't feel ready or able to commit wholly to the MFP logging, calorie-counting etc, instead, change just ONE thing for a week. Then change one more thing the next week. For example: if you have a latte each morning, change it to a cappucino. Then say.…

YERRRRRRSSSSSS - TEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA The genius of it is that it takes a while to make (boil kettle, let brew) AND it takes a while to drink (ouch...too hot....sip slowly). It just keeps on giving in terms of boredom and those "I need a break from desk" moments.

You're writing all the right things as far as I can tell; learnt from previous mistakes, taking responsibility, committing to the process. Not only that, but your attitude is shining through....."I can" and "I will". This reads as much like a manifesto to yourself as a shout out to the community, but regardless of which, I…

Loving the fighting talk. That's the spirit!

Thanks all. You've really made me think with your sensible comments. You don't think something is odd until others say, "hey, that's not normal". I'm not a very active "doctor-goer", but you're right: there isn't a good reason why I should live with this. I am healthy and fairly active otherwise. My back pain has been so…

Yes - sorry Pauline if we all seem to be coming down on you a bit heavy. It may feel a bit unfair. I think most of us are trying to let you know of things that WE have learned ourselves and hoping it will help you. However, I see that it does come across as a bit like criticism. You obviously have a lot to contend with and…

Thanks jemhh for the "feet on plates" idea - that's great - AND for the reassurance that my back is doing the "right thing". LolBroScience - thanks for replying. Uncomfortable = a general ache. I have it a lot - even when not putting any strain on it (so I don't think it is cause by unnatural movement). I get it even if…

Hello! - I agree that pondee629's comment could be seen as harsh - but I still think he has a good (and probably well-meaning) point - it is all about mindset. See the article here: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/how-lose-ten-pounds-thirty-days-seriously-jeff-haden (don't be put off by the silly title - it isn't gimmicky)…
