Ignore them. They don't have a point and that is perfect progress you've got there.

Hey, it was a good question. I had to re-read the whole article before I answered. My initial answer was going to be, "presumably because when they initially tried to recruit study participants, all the men walked straight out again when they were asked to do burpees". I think that's what is known as 'projection', though.

I don't think the firefighters were doing the push-ups for the study. I think this is a study analysing the data from firefighters' annual physicals, so they're working with what firefighters are currently asked to do in that.

So would I, because at 5'2, weighing 110lbs, we'd have a BMI of 20.1, which is very low. The problem isn't BMI, the problem is this chart is broken. Speaking for myself only, I have a medium frame so that low in the range wouldn't work for me. The 18.5-20 zone is there for people who have petite frames.
-
It might be okay for 5'7", but for those of shorter stature, it is seriously borked. For example, normal weight (BMI 18.5 to 25) for women 4'11 tall is actually 91-118lbs, and that chart specifies to aim for underneath that! Fricking hell. Table of weight ranges here:…

Aren't there people who repair treadmills? Surely it would be more economical to have the old one repaired?

I'd like to second this. OP, I haven't had anything on the scale of what you've had, but I've had minor issues that necessitated a bit of time off and a sports therapist's input to resolve. I particularly remember the lovely sports therapist commenting that she could tell I had actually done the prescribed exercises. I…

You know, whenever I'm on MFP, sooner or later I end up reading a debate on whether MFP forum culture pushes eating extremely processed food within your calorie goal to new users without acknowledging the importance of meeting your nutritional needs while in deficit. I think the problem here is context. When people start…

If you don't get the relationship, you didn't read the first post properly. I find that rather disgusting. It's a discussion about effective forms of sanitary protection while lifting. Deal with the fact that someone wanted product recommendations.

Nah, no-one who can't comprehend daily weight fluctuations without catastrophising about them can operate well as a "body transformation" advisor. It's his job to provide a rational, informed viewpoint on his clients' progress; he's not supposed to make them panic more about an overnight water weight gain!

I like the Z and the macron on the O. That showz you how super effective it will be on your bо̄dy.

@lemurcat12 Agreed. I seem to remember various people reporting online that such a version of HAES philosophy motivated them into exercising for fitness, and making a few diet changes for health, and that saw them... losing weight, just as you describe. Without stress, self-hatred or the rest. They were very positive about…

How long have you been doing that?
-
Yup. I've done it as well. For me, an isolated day of irresistible hunger is probably just pre-menstrual hunger, but any pattern like this means I need to reassess my current activity levels and whether I'm eating too little.
-
Have you ever seen this image on mfp? It's an illustration of how a strict diet plan can push you into a cycle of compensating for the previous day's deficit. You end up having eaten at maintenance, in effect, and feeling guilty. Something to think about.
-
Okay, that's a sizeable deficit. Don't you do a lot of walking as well?
-
Step back. So you've eaten 3000 calories. Is that all together? What's your current estimate for your average maintenance per day, including exercise calories? This is probably the equivalent of eating for a couple of days at maintenance for you. I don't want to make you feel attacked, but classically, big splurges on food…

Agreed. Calling people who need psychological support nuts is not acceptable. Speaks to how naive I am that I didn't even realise it might not be short for nutritionist, though.
-
I think the key is moderation. Yes, you can walk, especially if it makes you feel better mentally. Going down to 1500 calories was probably too far though when breastfeeding, going off what I remember of breastfeeding. Breastfeeding uses about 500 cals a day IIRC, so 1500- 500 cals for breastfeeding - exercise =too little.…

To add to what everyone else as said, a trial period of weighing and logging every flipping thing gives you first-hand experience of what things you personally should prioritise weighing in future. For example, I know that I should weigh peanut butter. I've also learned that if I can't be bothered to weigh everything, I…

Because these days, when people say they want to lose weight, they don't mean they only want to be physically lighter so that they can improve their car's fuel efficiency. Mostly they want to look better naked. For that, they need to lose fat mass, not lean body mass. Simply put, if your deficit exceeds the amount of fat…

Glad you ended things with him! I have to say though, it's not that you're not suited to a PT, it's that you're not suited to being hectored by an ill-informed bossy man. Hardly a flaw with you.

Me. Not dyspraxia, exactly, but a diagnosable issue with clumsiness and inability to catch balls that turned out to be neurological. I didn't find out until I was 18 though. On the minus side, in the absence of an official label, I'd generated my own labels for the issues I had, like "doesn't practise hard enough". So my…

I thought it was short for nutritionist.

It's amazing how the actual weight-loss mechanisms behind these diets are so clear in retrospect. I was very attracted to Fit For Life, because it promised me an end to my frequent stomach-aches and the only real change I thought I had to make was to only ever eat fruit an hour before dinner, never after. In practice, what…

Don't worry about the carb limit. Focus on finding foods that won't take you way over your calorie goal, and won't leave you feeling really hungry by lunchtime. You are very close to the ideal weight range for your height already, so aim for slow weight loss.
-
I don't follow the keto diet and I never ever will. I've lost weight WITHOUT changing my carb consumption and l expect to lose more. To lose weight, all you need to do is eat less. That's the calories. You don't need to eat clean for it. However, paying attention to what you eat (for example, including fruit and…

I leave the macros on the default and focus on the calories. I don't want to go low-carb, and I definitely don't want to go low-fat, so leaving it on the default lets me see at a glance whether I'm getting enough fat for my nutritional needs. My calorie goal is a lot higher than that though. What loss rate did you pick?
-
Guilty confession time. I used to believe wholeheartedly in Harvey and Marilyn Diamond's Fit for Life food combination rules. In my defence, I was twelve. As I remember, you were allowed to eat some food stuffs together in that one.

Nah, it's moderate exercise. If that wasn't enough, remember that consistent moderate exercise every week beats all the sessions of vigorous exercise that you didn't do because you didn't have the energy for them.
