  • How about surfing? I grew up in Pacific Beach, and had been body surfing, Boogie Boarding, surf kayaking, water skiing, and wind surfing, but didn't try plain ol' surfing on a surfboard until I was 52. I took a weekend class with a group of friends at Surf Diva Surf School. Got just good enough to pop up for a second or…
  • Think you might enjoy group dancing? San Diego Contra Dance is a very active, longstanding group that holds dances almost every week, with live music, and beginner-friendly lessons at the start of each one. You do not need a partner! There's a modest fee. I've only been to one, years ago. It was a blast. Here is the San…
  • The dojo (martial arts school) where I train in Aikido offers an inexpensive introductory course for anyone interested in trying out this graceful, non-violent practice. You can find current info on Aikido 101 here: http://www.aikidosd.com/course.htm Aikido is unique among martial arts in that its aim is to avoid violence,…
  • The San Diego River Park Foundation has lots of FREE opportunities to participate in river improvement projects, including clean-up days, removing invasive plants, etc. If you want to get outdoors and get some exercise doing a great thing for the community, check out the "Volunteer & Events Calendar" on their website. You…
  • I eat a lot of eggs and dairy, snack on salmon jerky, toss canned tuna or salmon into salads, add whey protein to smoothies... I'm still struggling to get enough, but may some of those ideas will work for you.
  • Everyone is uncomfortable going out of their comfort zone. That's why it's called a comfort zone. ;-) A suggestion (based on tons of solid research): Start small. Change one habit every week or so. Little things. Like this week just track your food. Next week keep doing that, and be sure to eat one colorful vegetable every…
  • Congratulations on your new beginning, and your great sense of enthusiasm and determination. I know you can do it, because I did it. I'm post-hyst / post-menopause, and I lost 40 lbs the first year I took up training in a martial art (Aikido) that I love. That was in 2009. Now I'm training at least 5 days a week, and have…
  • Well said! Thank you for posting this. I hope it will encourage more women to begin weightlifting. I belong to a small gym, where we all work under the supervision of a strength coach. There are several women there – I aM not the only one – but we are in the minority. Maybe 20%. There are a few couples who train together,…
  • Count me in, if you like... It's one of my goals. Right now I'm aiming to lose fat. I want to be at about 20-23% (currently at 29%). But once I get there it's back to focusing on strength and muscle. Hard to balance everything at once.
  • Thanks, oldandfit2014! I was doing steps 1-6, and MFP was not listing the Wahoo app under My Apps. However, when I went ahead and did your steps 7-9, it worked. MFP still doesn't show the Wahoo app under My Apps, but I'm able to share my workouts, which is all I needed.
