Thank you! Carbs are not evil. And fat, too, while we're on the subject. We need to eat fat in order to lose it. Funny how that works. Studies are now showing that if you consume 1.5 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight while doing strength training, you'll maintain muscle mass, but cut fat. There's a great article…

Protein. Studies show that eating lots of protein keeps you satiated.

Sorry, about not responding for a while. I wish MFP had a better system in letting you know when new posts are in threads you've posted in. Sugars are carbs.

Don't you want a nice, round butt? Squats and hip thrusts for life. #IWantaBigButt But seriously, if you're doing a lot of exercises that use the glutes, then you're going to build them up. They'll become perkier and fuller. If you don't like having a booty, then cut back on the glute exercises.

Thanks, ladies!

Dawn and Julie - Yeah. I decided to just use 45lbs plates instead as the smallest step in my gym was too high. My feet were over the bar and I couldn't get a straight line against my shins on the initial pull. Sue - Yeah, that's the video I was talking about and unfortunately did not address my issue. (And sorry for taking…

I'm hoping you ladies can help me. Maybe I'm just over thinking things. Doing NROL4W. I now have wide grip deadlifts from a box as part of my routine. I've done these from a plate before, but never a box. I know that once I've got it up, I don't actually bring it all the way to the ground, just below the edge of the box to…

Sue - You've got this! Look forward to seeing your posts. Pudding - It's not tooting your own horn. It's celebrating success. You're allowed. Don't apologize for having victories! I start Stage 2 today, and I'm excited, because I enjoy back squats and OHP, so why not do them both at the same time? And I'm glad deadlifts…

I love saunas. I use the one at my gym a lot in the winter.

Eek! Between my elbow injury, the three tests I had this week and studying for LSAT I haven't checked in in a bit. Thanks everyone for your kind words. I had a mild strain in my elbows, but my self-prescribed week of RICE was exactly what I needed according to my doctor. I was told that I had to remember I wasn't Superman…

Thanks, folks! I was super excited about my stomach. Heh. I'm taking an extra day of rest and following RICE for my elbows. Those neutral-grip negatives from Friday? Yeah, they killed me. My husband thinks I've got tendonitis (he's a drummer, so that's something he's always concerned about). My elbows are swollen, they…

One more week of Stage 1 for me. Yay! I did add 3x5 negative pull ups to the end of the routine today. I want to be able to do pull ups, so I'm adding them into the As. I also did a form check video of my squats, and while I'm getting below parallel, I'm not keeping my chest up enough, so today I did squat to a box that…

I'm actually looking at text books now. A friend who is a nurse has a food textbook she's going to give me, and my old strength and conditioning coach has another from when he was in university. And then, for a small pocket book I just plan on going to the bookstore and peruse what they've got and go from there. And yeah,…

To add what girlinahat listed, there is also the Strong Curves program. I'm doing New Rules right now after a year of working with a strength and conditioning coach. It's a good program. When I'm done this one, I'll be moving on to Strong Curves. Neither of these books are expensive. You can find them at your library, or…

Samntha - I don't do a lot of BP and I do a lot of DLs. Also, DLs just came really naturally to me. Heh. Oh, and February's issue of FitnessRX for Women has a pretty good article on splits and full body. I've only read half of it so far (I totally keep my magazines in the bathroom). Did S1 A2 yesterday. Did it at the silly…

I don't mind large books. I'm a home cook who has taken quite a few cooking courses and classes. Some of the cookbooks I own come in multiple volumes and I use them weekly. I counted my cookbook collection not too long ago when I re-organized my kitchen, and I own 97. I received more at Christmas. I have looked at Amazon,…

Yeah, I don't want to use the internet. I have been, and it's annoying. I don't have a computer in my kitchen so I have to go back and forth to get the information I need. I want something that has all of the basic vegetables and fruits so that all I have to do is look at the index and find what I need in seconds.

It was at 170g according to the stuff in the book. I ran the numbers a few times to make sure. I'm now down to 142g (25%) on workout days and it feels so much better to be at 25% protein. People's body's are different. I've started keeping a spreadsheet of how I feel at different ratios to try to find what my body likes.

Well, in that case! My wall of text: Hello everyone! Just joined this group. Thought I'd say hello and introduce myself. I started this program this week. I started lifting a year ago with a strength and conditioning coach. My goal was to learn how to lift properly. Aesthetics weren't a part of it at all, though, I won't…

I'm a total nerd. I'm a Bioware fangirl. I don't mind adds at all, just prefer if people leave a message with their friend request.

It'll be three years on Feb. 16th for me. I don't wake up hacking up a lung. That's a really big bonus for me. I'm also not on my front porch in the morning gagging as I choke down poisonous smoke. I quit cold turkey. I paced around a lot when I got big cravings. After three months I was good, though. Now, when I smell…

I've got asthma. It's not contagious. When it's cold outside my airways contract and I cough. I always cough into the crook of my elbow, because that's the polite thing to do. Not everyone who is coughing is contagious and sick.

Edit: Saw the introduction thread belatedly. Moved my post there.

I started this program this week. I started lifting a year ago with a strength and conditioning coach. My goal was to learn how to lift properly. Aesthetics weren't a part of it at all, though, I won't lie, they're a positive side benefit. :) At any rate, for the last year I've focused more on form and technique than…
