Iced green tea, or hot. Depending on the time of year.
-
I'm planning on having a drink or two, too!

I second the Oh She Glows cookbook. Every recipe is a home run! Great resources here, too! ^ Just go for it! Make one or two days a week vegetarian, and ease your way in. It'll be second nature before you know it.

Try burrito bowls! Layer of quinoa (the batch of quinoa is best mixed with one can of diced tomatoes and taco seasoning), layer of black beans, fajita style grilled veggies and salsa on top! It's my current favorite.

Yep! Same boat. When I feel a salty craving come on, I air pop some yellow popcorn (in a brown bag in the microwave), spray it down with a little bit of cooking spray and add salt and nutritional yeast. It does the trick for way fewer calories.

Oh cool! Sounds like Garmin is the way to go!
-
When I first bought my treadmill I tried using my Nike+ app with the foot chip, but it never registered the movement. Bummer. I live in Alaska and winter has been steady here. Thus the treadmill running. The Garmin forerunner sounds cool, I'll read up on that. Thanks!

Thanks for the input! Follow up question: does Nike+ only work if you have your phone in your hand? I have the chip in my shoe but I vaguely remember not using that app because you had to have your phone in your hand (very cumbersome with the iPhone 6plus). Is that correct?

Awesome! I just ordered Harney & Sons classic hot cinnamon spice tea for myself. Looking forward to trying that out when it arrives. For international tea day today, I'll have green tea. Cheers!

Started (treadmill) running again around Thanksgiving! This summer I had a bout of tendinitis that had me down for a bit, but I'm ready to run for the rest of the long Alaska winter!
-
Dried spearmint! I'm wondering if I can find that in town somewhere. Maybe I can grow a plant after winter breakup. Alaska's (summer) midnight sun is good for gardens!
-
They seem to come highly recommended. So I will check it out! Ohh I need to hunt down some jasmine green tea again. I had some a while back and never replaced it when I ran out. And honey in the chamomile -- good idea!

It might be a challenge if your husband isn't on board! I'm lucky that mine is. I even took him on a vegan journey this year. He does get a burger at a restaurant every once in awhile, that's the compromise. I recommend Pamela Anderson's (different one!) Cook Without a Book: Meatless Meals. It's a great vegetarian starter…

I eat mostly vegan, but don't have much experience with the raw vegan movement. I have checked out this raw some vegan life though, seems like some good recipes there! Or Try your library, I live in interior Alaska, and even my library has a significant vegan cookbook section. http://www.thisrawsomeveganlife.com/?m=1

I agree. I spent most of this year as a vegan for factory farming concerns. My toddlers needed higher calorie foods though, so I brought cheese and eggs back into the home. I currently eat VB6 diet - allowing for a little bit of feta or other cheese during dinner, and 100% vegetarian otherwise. I didn't like feeling…

Ditto! Mix it in with my senior beagle's dog food. She loves it.

I miss trader joes! They definitely don't have any of those here in Alaska. I did find out we have a specialty tea store, though. That's awesome. I tried their lavender Yerba mate today, it was pretty good but very fragrant. I think I'd enjoy it more if it were vanilla. I'm boring that way, I guess.

Ohh! I like where your mind is. I'm wondering if the cinnamon spiced tea would make a good hot toddy. Too much kick paired with whisky, probably. But your cinnamon tea + spiced rum idea sounds awesome! I might have to try it after a day of cross country skiing tomorrow.

Went to the store today and bought celestial seasonings Bengal spice, and sugar cookie sleigh ride. I also got yogi bedtime tea (it's chamomile, ugh, but im gonna learn to love it) and yogi chai rooibos. Bengal spice + unsweetened vanilla almond milk is awesome!! I have more on my to-try list, but the options were limited…

Woah! Your tea stash is amazing! I might have to try out earl grey in the mornings. I kicked my coffee habit because I use way too much creamer, now I'm starting to feel the itch for a little caffeine in the mornings. Especially with two toddlers running the house.

Oh! Thanks for the heads up! I'll browse today. I'll check out Amazon, too. Gotta love Amazon prime!
-
Yum! That sounds like an awesome treat!
-
Hot cinnamon spice sounds amazing! I'm adding that to my list!
-
I'm missing out! I live in fairbanks, Alaska. We don't have any specialty tea stores, but we do have a co-op and a health food store. I'll check out their loose leaf varieties! Thanks for the inspiration, everyone!

Check out food blogs! I love minimalistbaker.com (awesome vegan and vegetarian foods) and cookieandkate.com. There's also an awesome cookbook called cook without a book, meatless meals by Pamela Anderson (different Pamela). It teaches you cooking techniques to slap together vegetarian meals with what you have on hand.
-
Try cookieandkate.com - she has a few recipes for homemade Granola bars (they taste like no bake cookies!) that travel well.

I drink a tall glass of ice water when I'm hit with bad cravings. The fullness usually helps trick my mind into thinking I'm not desperate for pizza or cookies or whatever is tempting me. I also quantify tempting foods as miles to run. One slice of pizza? That's an extra two miles on the treadmill. It works, most of the…

Justin's Maple Almond Butter on a whole wheat waffle. It's high calorie (I reserve it for big hiking days) and so delicious.

While you're cooking, list the ingredients on a recipe calorie tracker. Try this: http://www.caloriecount.com/cc/recipe_analysis.php?ns=1

This reminds me of when I found out how many calories were in my daily chai tea lattes in college. Ahh! The stuff of nightmares, I tell you.
