  • I just started back too and I'm almost halfway to my final goal - you'll be there soon too! I've used this app in the past but have found that it's SO much better these days.
  • This is the hardest time for me too, I feel your pain. I frequently don't have calories left in my budget after dinner as I eat a pretty decent breakfast, lunch, and dinner. However, my want to reach for a snack in the evenings has NOTHING to do with hunger or not being satiated by earlier meals. I'm purely driven to snack…
  • I love pre logging the night before. Then when I get hungry I go to my list of pre-approved snacks and make my choice. Danger for me is that moment of 'hmmmm, I'm hungry, what do I feel like eating?' and instead makes me think 'hmmmm, I'm hungry, what would be a good choice for right now?' Actually, I often find myself…
  • Talk to your OB/GYN ASAP. Recommendations such as this need to come from your specialist. Congratulations!
  • Gang, I am a *kitten*. I thought the title of this thread was Couch 25K and didn't realize that it means Couch TO 5K. It's too late for me to delete this post but let it be known that I just realized how douchey it must have come off. Apologies.
  • Very good points, thank you. For international travel, anyone have any suggestions on food during the flight? Or, alternatively, whether you can obtain nutritional data for airline food?
  • You guys might recognize some of your brilliant recommendations here, plus some venison and jalapeño semi dried sausage I found, high protein, moderate sodium, and only 50 cals a serve, yes please!
  • I wish that were the case! Second night this week we're going to a Brazilian steak house, nommmm! Everyone will be in a meat coma by about 9pm, heh. I've already scouted the menu out and have my eye on the grilled jumbo shrimp entree (4 pieces), with a side salad. Planning ahead is everything.
  • Get the Map My Run app, it's free and monitors how far and how fast you run, plus each individual mile split time. It synchs up with MFP too if you want. I had to unsynch it though cos it kept allocating me 700 calories per run, and I didn't like that. Overestimation big time.
  • Guys, this is wonderful advice, thank you. Especially true regarding sitting at the terminal, I am so guilty of this and there's no reason for it! 20years: that is so true what you said about drinking - often times you are in a situation where it is very much expected that you will participate in the festivities and this…
  • Update on that.... Just signed up for a 5K in Jan, and two more in Feb. Going to shoot for a 10K in March, woot! No time like the present.
  • Just got back from a 6 miler... A shade under 10 minute mile for the whole run, with one split under 9 mins! Ok ok it was 8:56 but still, big improvement. Do you guys use the Map My Run app? It's really helpful and you can run it at the same time as the 5/10/25K apps no probs. So as of today I switched to the 10k app as I…
  • This is very helpful, thank you for taking the time to share this! I was half afraid I might get another CICO drone answer (or ten). Agreed on keeping up with the exercise, it's one of the few times to be in a position where a full gym is just downstairs, huh? Coffee breaks are definitely a danger zone, I think I might…
  • Sounds more like food poisoning to me, throwing up is a very severe reaction. What did you eat that caused you to vomit?
  • Eat lots and lots and LOTS of veggies, especially the green variety. Try adding a cup of broccoli and 2 cups of baby spinach/arugula to both lunch and dinner - keeps me full for hours and the additional calories from these inclusions are almost negligible. Just watch what you put on them (dressings etc.).e I think not…
  • Categorically doesn't work for me. Problem is that if I justify one particular day, it gets easier to justify the night before, the day after, special days of the year, the weekend, after working out, when I'm hungover, the list goes on. That's not to say that I maintain the perfect diet day-in-day-out; because I don't! I…
  • Wow! Your story is so incredibly heartbreaking to read, though with such a happy ending which is wonderful. I can't even begin to imagine how much of a tough journey it has been, this is testament to your strength of character and determination to succeed. Thanks for sharing, I am sure you are an inspiration to many.
  • Nope, not for me. I have cut it out almost entirely. It's not that I necessarily make bad food choices after a drink or two, rather that for me a budget of 1,220 calories is not all that much per day. I'll be damned if I would use any of those on much else other than food or coffee!
  • Not in and of itself, but it helps me from getting the late night munchies as I sip on a big 'ole cup of it instead of reaching for something calorific. Very satiating and also keeps my hands busy which is, funnily enough, equally important. Jasmine is my fave :)
  • What about this: are you able to distinguish between craving, and justification? One of the habits I have had to get out of is feeling like I have 'earned' food xyz, whatever it might be, because I worked out and so I 'deserved' it. Those thoughts then quickly develop in to cravings as I start to ponder what I may be able…
  • All are roughly 100 calories or less: Steamed mashed sweet potato (100g portion) Roasted cauliflower (1 cup) Greek yogurt with raspberries (half a cup of yogurt and 25g berries) Cottage cheese (quarter cup) Tinned sardines in olive oil (drained, about 30g) Caprese salad piece (mozzarella slice, tomato slice, basil leaf,…
  • I would not count that as a small victory - that's a massive win! Good job!
  • I've been doing it for several weeks and am loving it! I used to be a runner waaaay back in the day and I'm just now feeling like I'm hitting my stride again.... Pardon the pun. Once you get going it only gets easier, sometimes I'll actually do the session twice in the same run (e.g. run for 1+ hours rather than 30 mins or…
  • I love that statement! I work for a consulting company and use a very similar analogy with many of the companies I work with. For example, when people say that they don't have time to tend to some business activity or to further a company initiative that's not necessarily part of their day-to-day job, I always ask them…
  • I'm all for natural remedies that are ancillary to medical intervention where needed. However, these things have their place and that is not in the forefront of any treatment plan for any medical condition, much less as a replacement for medical intervention. You know what they call natural medicine that has been proven to…
  • Love this!!! I made some questionable choices today for breakfast and lunch so I took my little butt out for a run. Hubby is ordering pizza for dinner so I am thawing out some homemade soup for me instead. Woot for not throwing the baby out with the bathwater :)
  • You know what the most frustrating thing about these threads is? It's all based on each individual's opinion. There is conflicting evidence out there - some people take available evidence and form an opinion that sugar is NOT addictive. Some people take available evidence and form an opinion that sugar IS addictive. Others…
  • Small banana and full fat plain Greek yoghurt.
  • I'm not a big fan of diet soft drink, though I used to be 8-10 years ago! Now I'll drink the real stuff if I ever feel the urge which is rare - maybe a few times a year. If it's a sugar hit I am after I'm much more likely to go for chocolate - yummm! I do reach for a mineral water if I feel the need for something with a…
