For the record, I didn't start this thread to start crap. I thought I was replying to the thread "What are your unpopular opinions about health / fitness?" I wondered why there was a field to add a title. Oops! :-(

I'm over-weight too. And I refuse to apply the same trickery to myself that I refuse to apply to others who are obese or over-weight. I couldn't lose weight until I finally faced the facts. I was fat (still over-weight), lazy and didn't give a crap. And people telling me "you're fine the way you are" was an extreme…

True. But fat is fat. Doesn't make them "Curvy" like the enabling industry would have us believe. Again, calling a duck a duck. And the sooner we start taking responsibility and stop making excuses then the healthier we'll become quicker.
-
You consider yourself obese?

240 sounds high for your height. I'm 6"2' and a reasonable weight for me is 215-220. I have 25lbs to go to reach 220. The "Charts" say I should be around 180 but that's bullcrap.

Mine has don't that in the past. In the Bluetooth section I chose to Forget device then re-paired. Fixed the issue for me.

Or vice versa. ;-) Anyway, I DID say "I guess Aspartame is safe as long as you don't have phenylketonuria." I opt not to use it as a sweetener though. I also stressed that as with anything, moderation is key.
-
And it's FDA approved. So if someone likes it, and wants it, use it. I pass on it though. Personal choice.
-
There isn't complete agreement on the results of some of the studies of Aspartame. There has been some question as to the results of some of the studies. It could be fine. I just don't use it.
-
I guess Aspartame is safe as long as you don't have phenylketonuria. I avoid it myself. Would like to see further studies on it. I'm on the fence with Sucralose, but DO use it in moderation. For me though, one thing is clear; more studies need to be performed on all types of sweeteners. This is a case where moderation is…

Technically Stevia is considered a 'Novel Sweetener.' BUt it's okay for you. True Natural sweeteners would be things such as Agave nectar, Date sugar, Fruit juice concentrate, Honey, Maple syrup and Molasses.

I agree that is the best way. Quitting cold turkey. I see people trying to quit so many things by weaning off of them or switching to their "Lite" versions, but it seldom works. If you're going to quit something, quit. I quit smoking in '89 by going cold turkey. Tried to quit drinking many times over many years but was…

I cut sodas out of my life a few years ago and couldn't be happier. Now I can't even stand the taste of it. For caffeine it's coffee or tea. Other than that I get by on water.

I try to stop eating by 7:00pm and consume 2200 calories or less.
-
I don't see a pic

I stopped using FitBit to track exercise because it was doubling everything. Now I just use MFP and sync with FitBit.

I wish the forums had a like button or thumbs up

+1 Garmin - having had both the Charge and VivoSmart I concur that the Garmin is more accurate. It's also more feature rich. I'd love to get the VivoActive but can't afford it.

Some people are eating too few calories. 1200 calories is probably putting your bodies into "starvation mode" and starts retaining fat. You need enough calories. Just also need the right amount of cardio and general exercise.

Yes, I've had one for a couple of years. Works fantastic. For me it was worth it, but that's totally subjective. For me, the fewer things I have to manually enter, the better. One thing to keep in mind though is that they work on the wireless B standard. So you'd have to make sure your wireless router/AP support B.

We're really close. I'm also 44, 6'2" and started at 265 a couple of months ago. Through (so far) just walking a total of 4-5 miles a day and making sure I burn 500-750 more calories a day than I consume, I am now at 253. I plan to add exercise now, but gradually. Will start with resistance bands and dumbells. My goal is…
