If you're serious about pushing past that plateau you have to make choice. You know yourself best. Either you have the will power (or can find it ) to portion control the stuff... or you don't buy it in the first place to avoid going overboard. You are the only one that knows what is best for you. Sometimes you have to…

Do you have any recommendations for fuel during cycling on my longer rides that is real food and not a gel or a gummy?

Agreed! Make a good little network of MFP friends. It makes all the difference to log in every day and check out what's going on. It's working for me, anyway.

I've also used this app on and off. This is the first go at it where I've searched and added friends. Looking at my feed a few times a day helps really keep me motivated. I get inspired by all the people working out. Sometimes I look at peoples food diaries for inspiration. It also helps to have people commenting on your…

I don't know. I have a heart rate monitor on order and it will be here on Wednesday and I'm really curious to check it out. I ride slow so a 2 hour ride is about 30 miles for me at about 15 mph average speed. ( my 50 mile rides take me 3 hours) I only started cycling 5 months ago. I'd guess though that my HR is at 110 on…

This gives me hope that if I work out really hard, it's okay if I eat those calories back. It's been drilled in the head calories in vs calories out... and seeing that sweet sweet deficit makes it tempting to keep it so... This is why I asked this question though. It makes me feel a lot better that the calories are getting…

I like the buffer approach. Kind of like a safety net.

I guess I never thought of it as banking calories or looking it over a weeks time. Thanks for the insight!

I like the partial rule. If I go on a 40 o 50 mile ride and I'm burning 1200 calories during that time, eating that much food is sometimes difficult. ( in a healthy manner that is. I could eat a couple slices of pizza no problem, but I don't feel I'm doing myself any favors with that). I think that I have a pretty good…

No one has really addressed your question as to whether or not you should go for a cut cycle, and then try a gain cycle. I think you're right in that you don't have much body fat to lose. What is your physique goal? I think the progress you've made so far is fantastic, and at 4000 calories, your body seems to be using the…

I'm in NE Portland and a chef too. Once the weather clears up, I'm free for a bike ride, or a hike. I also belong to Crunch on Division.
