  • Awesome, it's pretty engaging!
  • Even though I train structured, I still use Zwift. Depending on the workout I'll just create the file in zwift and let it use Kickr ERG mode to change the resistance, or I'll do it myself from the phone. Even doing that, I personally enjoy the visuals more than just starting at the clock on my Garmin/Wahoo phone app
  • Yea, this has been the past three months for me. Pretty much nothing but days in the 20s or 30s with a little snow here and there. Tomorrow looks to be first day over 50 in over 3 months...gotta savor that outdoor experience. GL with the trainer session!
  • If you KNOW you will ride the trainer and want the best experience, Wahoo Kickr hands down. By far the best trainer out there. Otherwise, just get a cheap 100-300 USD turbo, switch out the tire to a trainer tire, and see how it goes.
  • I can totally understand where you are coming from on much of the post, but this part I don't follow. If you're riding hard, there is too much pain to be worried about any 'sensory deprivation', the intensity of the ride takes full command of your focus and mental attention. If you haven't tried it, Zwift can work very…
  • As far as strava stuff goes there is actually a MFP Strava Group out there. Individually feel free to add me: https://strava.com/athletes/4181836

  • Done 5 hours controlled at 220w without much trouble, pushing it probably would be somewhere between 240-260w, so 4k calories in 4 hours would be possible but only in a idealized steady state, extremely taxing ride. A mountainous ride would actually decrease my odds of doing this, as you just lose too much to zero watt…

  • If you use strava's estimation of efficiency, and take 4 hours to be "somewhere in the 4 hour range", that could easily be a 200-240w average ride, which is very reasonable. 280w for 4 hours would be pretty damn good under most circumstances, but for all we know the guy could be 6'8" and 100kg, making that a pretty…

  • Weight loss goals? Let me eat more and still stay good on CI < CO which was nice psychologically. Fitness wise running was the end goal, so naturally running contributes pretty well to running faster provided you train smart  When I started running in Apr 11' I went for 178lbs and 23:47 for 5k down to 151lbs and…
  • Yea, I found my charge HR overestimate my general calories quite significantly, usually by 30-50%. I'm a 65kg guy and was getting readings of 3500-4000 kcal burned on days where I would walk 10-15k steps. I suspect this was an issue with it trying to use HR to determine calories, but the HR never measures consistently for…
  • Yea, Zwift is really nice. It's fantastic in group ride/racing scenarios, almost to the point I begin to forget I'm inside, and a definite notch up even for just regular training sessions. Now if only the LT I have to run it on was new enough to do better than the scintillating 1-2 fps I get ;(
  • Yea, nothing is worse than 3+ hour sessions on the turbo. If you're not trying to ride big winter hours and just want to keep some fitness, there is a really good solution for that: short, structured workouts. It's hard to get bored in 30-45 minutes of time, especially when half that time you're busy working too hard to be…
  • Umm....yes? How would you not? It's very similar to riding outdoors in that the faster you go the harder you have to work. I can do max sprints on my trainer just fine. I have the Wahoo Kickr, and if it fits the budget I would HIGHLY recommend it. It's pricey for a trainer at approx 1k USD, but still far cheaper than a…
  • Yesterday was nice, hit 66.2kg/145.2 lbs...lowest I've weighed since I got big in middle school. 4-6 kg left to go, not going to be easy kg drop, but really looking forward to the tremendous difference in performance, and the upcoming tremendous change in definition that should accompany going from 13% to 6% BF.
  • Nice! Awesome that worked out for you. Liquid calories always end up making me crave solid foods with it
  • Everybody else is scared

  • I really disagree with such a blanket statement, quitting cold turkey always works by far the best for me. Yea, the first couple weeks usually SUCK, but after that 98% of the addiction fades pretty hard. 3.5 weeks in to trying to stay off soda for the front end of 2016 and not really missing them at all anymore.
  • Zwift wattage is correct, assuming the rider has PM or smart trainer, as Zwift gets it's power data from those. However, zwift is definitely fast. It assumes you are extremely slippery. On flat roads here in CO I've done 21-22 mph average speed of 220w average, but on zwift that number can be 22-24mph on courses that are…
  • Ugh. So dang busy lately. 15+ hr training weeks and 35 hour work weeks really make life busy. Sunday was a pretty bad day, planned to do a small refreed day (+500 kcal over maintenance), but got carried away and went +1300 kcal. Most of it from junk food, as I added in an extra large cookie from safeway and a cupcake. That…

  • Do you mean minimum time? Or am I missing your point?
  • @jbaker436 - Nice on the weight loss, that near 2lbs a week is really solid! @sue_01 - 15,000 steps is pretty active, and the snow definitely ups the intensity from just a casual stroll around the block. Just wish old man winter would leave town right about now...need to move to Sacramento or Phoenix or Tuscon! @moremonica…
  • Nope so far on the challenges, today was just an easy 75 min recovery spin on the bike after several very hard days in a row. Close to no processed sugar, but had 1/4 of a Hershey Bar and a small 10g/40kcal cookie at work. Good day eating wise aside from that. Was a day of survival though, I was a walking, tired, wasted,…

  • Hmm, pretty much my issues that have been keeping me from goal weight are: 1) Too much junk food 2) Consistent grazing (which I found out was adding up to 500-1500 kcal a day. Yikes!) 3) Late night binges The general goal I have in mind has been to work to decouple to some extent the idea of food from pleasure. Not meaning…
