Had gall bladder removed about six years ago. Come on suddenly - various scans showed large stone blocking duct. I literally couldn't eat anything. Had to fly home from Canada to UK for surgery - otherwise would be trapped in Canada for 6 weeks post surgery. So had to live on gaterade and morphine (under consultants…

I boil a whole chicken. Pleased to see someone else boiling chicken ! I tend to do calories in portions. So breast as per grilled skinless breast - which is dinner with boiled potato and green veg. Then thigh as per grilled thigh and so on. I suspect I'm happy to be less accurate than you. Most of my food is weighed and…

Definitely-for me. 136 lbs. biggest mistake ever was to go below that (well within healthy bmi) , couldn't maintain so got disheartened - and put on lots of lbs. This time I'm listening to my body. About 10 -14 lbs to go.

I think your idea to search for 'Tesco Strawberries ' will sort most of my difficulty. Certainly don't want a debate about pros and cons of any method. If I'm honest , being any oldie , I weigh in ounces. Thanks for taking time to reply.

Yes to premium. Hated the adverts - so almost worth it for that alone. Macros helpful - have changed what I eat - which is what it's about. I cancelled my weight watchers subscription for Premium so actually saving a lot of £.

Enjoy your holiday. On a long weight lose journey I think you also need to work out how to cope with life. How to maintain in the future. So yes by all means make some sensible choices. At all inclusive I'm very sensible at breakfast, and have rules like no alcohol before lunch. I too am active - join in power walking or…

I did much the same yesterday. Meal in Michelin star restaurant in London. I've recorded everything - best guess basis. Totally over calories (1400) - but how many times do you have a 60th birthday ? I did make some sensible choices. I did walk a lot -(17000 steps) part of my gift was a tour of Kew Gardens - but then today…

Hi - I'm 60 too. A bit ahead of you on the exercise front. But if I can do it so can you. I started with aquacise - look after the knees ! I get on better at classes - rather than the gym. I have a

I'm 40 - with an extra 20 years of experience ! Fit for my age - currently buying a horse , walk dog daily and learning yoga. 5 ft 1" - and 10 -14 lbs to lose.

Thanks for your reply. Some useful info for me to think about. At the moment I'm eating within calories and then seeing what percentage of c/f/p I've had - rather than planning a particular %. Since leaving ww I am having more fat - which I like as it means less processed (low fat) foods. Body seems happy with that - no…

Those last few of days are the hardest. Just sharing my experience. About two years got to a target weight - in healthy bmi range - but couldn't maintain. I plateaued at about 7lb higher but wasn't satisfied. Inevitably I put weight back on - so this time round I don't have a specific weight in mind. I've something like 7…

Not an expert - and recently swapped to MFP from Weight Watchers. I track calories and keep an eye on macros. (Carbs / fat/ protein). I'm finding that upping the protein helps me feel fuller - 'better day'. Also I can eat some full fat products and lose weight - if I'm within calories. (I think Fat had become a no no). So…

Thank you. Macros are new to me so info useful.

Thank you for your reply and the extra info. I think my low fat eating has a number of reasons. I had gallstones (now removed) so couldn't eat much fat. I've recently stopped weight watchers and there was a push to low fat products. Im enjoying MFP and I think it makes my eating more 'normal'.

Thank you. I could feel myself getting stressed because what I am doing is different to what is suggested. When in fact I should be proud of what I'm achieving.

Very insightful article. Have flagged it for future reference.

I've no idea about running groups but have a suggestion re FB. It doesn't seem to be working for you at the moment - and it can be difficult if you unfriend individuals. So maybe make a post saying you are closing your account for a while due to ' lack of time ' or something vague. Then in say 2 months set up a new account…

Thank you for various replies. And yes I hadn't taken account of which calculations do and don't take account of exercise. Time to use my brain cell. (Do I get extra calories for brain power ?

I'm also a newbie - trying to get right target for calories. My thinking is - whilst there are lots of calculations to work of various parameters our bodies and lives are more complicated than that. So I'm going with a target number of calories for a month and then I'll see if I'm losing sensibly - and adjust accordingly.…

Thank you for comment. You've hit the nail on the head. I thought the 1400 calculated by MFP was low - based on what I had read here and elsewhere. This is all new to me so wanted another view. Time will tell. I'd be happy to lose more each week (wouldn't we all !) - but what I do needs to be sustainable. I seem to earn a…

Thank you. Finding my way now.

I have found this series of posts very interesting. I'd never heard of bmr and tdee - but now calculated. For what it's worth my thoughts are when deciding a target weight listen to your body. I got to my target (not using MFP) but had set it too low so was unrealistic to maintain and lead a normal life in the way I want.…

Just left WW and makes sense for me to say why. WW has a lot of pluses. I have seen people lose more than I weigh. The support and plan work to educate people who eat unhealthily and have a lot of weight to lose. Where it fails - and it failed me is that it doesn't support maintenance. Why would it ? There's no money…

Thank you for your comment. I think ww really works if you have a lot of weight to lose - but struggling with the last stone. I previously got to goalbut couldn't maintain. When I gained again I was eating healthy food - so I think the free food , particularly fruit had a lot to do with that. I'm not doing anything hugely…

Hi I'm new too. I'm going to ask you to be a friend when I work out how to do it !!!!
