  • Thank you and I think you are right. As I’m not tracking elsewhere. I started looking at iron as my hair is getting very fine (Think that happens at my age unfortunately). A friend advised that lack of iron can affect hair. I’m reluctant to take tablets. I’m going to look at a reliable way to see how much iron is in my…

  • Charity shops (that's what we call them in uk ). Found good quality separates. So smart and individual. Worked in 'the city ' in London so needed serious business wear. Found that could get really good jackets (which if I'm honest spent most of the time on the back of a chair). If you can get good quaility suit - make it…
  • There are real and serous intolerances and allergies. Unfortunately for people that have to live with these there are definitely trendy conditions and lots of misinformation - and large food ranges built on the back of this. My son had a serious intolerance of a fat in milk as a baby - basically stopped breathing -…
  • My tops tips - Weigh everything ( not cups or eyeball) Record everything Drink lots of water Use step tracker - it will work
  • Well done for asking for help and being persistent. I'm in the UK so not familiar with some of the abbreviations and names you have used. Any here are my thoughts ..... I'm trying very hard to make how I lose weight a practice for when I get to my target and want to maintain. So that means not having any special 'low'…
  • 60, female , post menopausal (obviously) , 5ft 1" and 145 lbs. I will lose another 10 -14 lbs. I walk dog and horse ride as main exercise. The most difficult challenge is complacency. I want to lose - but actually rather like the size I am now (UK size 10). I am losing slowly - but it has to fit in with my life. Reality is…
  • What's your target ? Given your height I'm guessing you could be at a stage where you are actually quite happy where you are. (I'm there - 5ft 1" and 145 lb) - and it's easy to be complacent. Clothes fit nicely , get nice comments etc etc So yes what others have said about weighing food and logging are true - but you need…
  • Sometimes when weather isn't great there are things I have to do anyway. Walk the dog twice a day - lovely when weather good , but have to do when wet. I have 'rules' -for example I don't drive to local shop to get newspaper.
  • Banana and water. Works for me.

  • Jury's out.......... Big positive is that there is a direct link between food composition and calories. So sugar or fat or alcohol not demonised. The question mark is will it work to get me to target ? Since joining MFP and starting counting calories I have had one celebration and holiday after another - aka 'life'. (Don't…
  • 5ft 1". Age 60. Currently 145 lbs , aiming for something around 137 lbs. Started with weight watchers a year ago at 173 lbs. Have previously been more - and reached 128 but couldn't maintain - hence vaugueness about target. Left weight watchers and joined MFP about a month ago. This is because I now want to work out how to…
  • I don't have hard floor - so I put scales on the floor of the shower (when it's not on !!!)
  • What amuses me most is that when I mistype a word in the search it just about always finds a misspelt item already logged. I do agree with previous comments that some sort of clean up of obviously totally misleading items would help. I like cake. It's so tempting to pick the '1 slice 100 calories' version when you know…
  • Like the quote. A good perspective.
  • It's a Pudding. It originates from Scotland- traditionally eaten on Burns Night. I'm on the South coast of England. Chose to do this dessert as it's simple & delicious. Had 10 people and 3 dogs for family do. You can pre- prepare the cream mixture and then just assemble with raspberries when ready to serve. It all got…
  • This time last year I was thinking exactly what you are. Roll on 12 months and I'm down to 'the last 12 lbs'. If I can do it anyone can.

  • I'd suggest starting with a target achievable in a number of weeks. Something like getting down to the next weight bracket -or into a particular pair of jeans /dress. Then honestly look at what you are eating and why you over eat. Is it portion size ? Emotions? Stress? Then put your info into MFP and plan your meals for…
  • I started with a personal trainer. Came to my house and got me started on exercise I could do at my age and weight. But it was something I only needed for a number of months. Then I was able to join classes with confidence. So, for me, a good way to get started and make initial life style changes.
  • Great post ! Live in UK - but take similar approach. Ok different shops and brands. My freezer is my life saver. One point I'd like to add - at the risk of being controversial - is that somewhere along the way collectively we seem to have lost the abilities to cook from scratch. Please don't think I'm saying that no one…
  • As others have said gluten or dairy are only to be avoided if you have a specific intolerance. (Early post by other contributor has useful links). More importantly products free of something contain other products to compensate so can be higher in calories. So actually can be unhelpful to weight lose. My approach to eating…
  • It's just life. We all have days when we go over. Today I've got a family do. I'll go over - it's all planned like that. One thing is to learn to accept the decisions you make. I've decided I want to enjoy prosecco with my family today. I will - and tomorrow's a new day. You can't change the past - so no benefit in…
  • I try to eat a balanced diet - so nothing's off limits. Obviously moderation required with alcohol, cake and similar. Currently trying to lose up to a stone. The aim is that the way I eat now will work for me when I need to maintain.Just a bit more scope for treats. I've previously managed to lose weight - but haven't got…
  • I just use phone. iPhone 5s. I like to wear a watch and bracelets so the bands aren't something I'd want to wear all of the time. It's just what works for you. Good Luck.
  • Chart doesn't go up to my age !!!!! Feeling old !!!
  • Carefully ! Previously I had a goal weight (which I reached) but couldn't maintain so just gave up. I plateaued about 10 lbs heavier - and that was my body telling me something. So I have a desire to get to something in healthy bmi range. Have just read about frame size - and that would indicate I'm a large frame. The…
  • Listen to your body. Maybe it's telling you that is what you should weigh ? My experience was I struggled to get to a target weight - really struggled with last 10 pounds (headaches etc). Yes I got there - but couldn't maintain without everyday being a battle. Not how I want to live the rest of my life. So I gave up and…
  • I'm 5ft 1" (almost) ! This is the first time I've heard of frame size - so just found out mine -large. I lost a lot of weight with weight watchers but couldn't maintain at the target weight. I knew it was too low - and if I look up weight range for large frame then this is confirmed. This time I'll listen to my body when…
