Yes, you can lose weight - the laws of physics will work for you too! So examine your logging and weighing - are you completely accurate, no fudging? Are you sure you are accurately recording your exercise? There is an expression - you cant outrun a bad diet - maybe stop eating, or cut back on those calories. I hope…

I always have a snack planned, maybe even several options, like a 100 calorie peanut butter fudge frozen yogurt bar, or a portion of special K cracker chips, or a clementine or a 100 cal granola bar or fibre bar - lots of options to suit whatever it feels like I am craving. I have done this for virtually every night for…

I have been on thyroid meds for about 28 years - once you are on the right drug and the right dosage, you can lose weight like anyone else. I have lost over 100 lbs in the last year. Please dont use your condition as an excuse not to try.

Shop like the Europeans do - almost everyday they buy what strikes their fancy that day for the main meal. They tend to have smaller fridges and overall smaller homes so storage is at a prmium. But with this method, everything is fresh and they tend not to have leftovers as theyonly buy what they need. Of course, they keep…

Pick a "diet" - anything that has been in the news for the last 40 years - and I have tried it. A few produced results but nothing was sustainable. Then I found MFP and it was like a light went on. I finally got it. It works. I can do this for the rest of my life. 115 lbs gone since Oct 2015. It changed my life.

This is the only app I have ever used - and since it has worked so well for me, I recommend it to anyone who asks about my weight loss -down over 100lbs since October 2015

mason jar salads - tons of recipes on line.

You can also do this with cauliflower - slice down through the head of the veg into thick slabs, a little oil, a little s and p, and grill or saute as noted in previous posts.

I cannot offer you any advice about your drinking, as that is for you alone to analyse and manage. But I can help with the nails! Go and get gel nails put on. You go to a salon and have them applied. They go over your regular nails, and if those are too short, they will apply a plastic "extender" so as soon as the session…

I mix them - romaine for the taste and iceberg for the crunch. But you are right - I too have always thought of iceberg lettuce as crunchy water!

You've both missed the boat on this by missing the fact that the OP is probably suffering from the residual effects of an eating disorder - fats or no fats, thats not the issue.

Buying new clothes was a big motivator for me - I really didnt weigh myself for the first three months that I was watching calories and logging - I just had faith in the system and that if I was consistent and honest, I would see results. It worked! I could see that my clothes were getting bigger and finally when I did get…

As long as you learned something from the experience, then it wasnt a complete bust. Now you know what pitfalls to watch out for in the future, how you reacted to those and what to change, how you felt afterwards and that you didnt like it, and how to plan for future similar situations. Get back on the wagon today, and…

I think its a magnificently effective marketing tool, to call something organic. Unless you have medically or ethical reasons to do so, I dont think its worth the money. You will never be able to absolutely quantify the benefits (or lack of) by eating one way or the other. For a lot of people, it simply represents a status…

Yes, I agree with TeaBea - if you really want it, figure out a way to afford it with your calorie budget. That way you will realize, literally, how much it costs and what you have to do to indulge.

My sister stopped drinking to assist in her weight loss and lost 30lbs in a very short time. She too consumed a lot of calories in drinks.

I am the same way - I feel like if I am going to spend my hard earned calorie dollars on something, it has to be the best I can afford. My old fast food favourites just dont cut it anymore. I am a great cook and its something I really enjoy, so I do make 99% of our meals at home and find that very satisfying, both…

Have you tried hard ciders? I am not much of a drinker - red wine primarily - but the summertime simply screams for hard cider when everyone else is drinking icy beers. (edited to add that they run about 125 cals for 12 0unces)

Grocery store or convenience store or even gas station - I would go get a can of soup if nothing else was available. I usually keep a can of Campbells veg soup in my desk drawer for those mornings when I have a seniors moment, and leave the house empty handed. It doesnt happen too often, as I am a pretty meticulous…

I had taco salad for lunch today - lettuce (mixed type), about 100gms of prepared taco meat (you know, the kind where you brown the ground beef, add some water and a packet of taco seasoning and then let it reduce till thick) and then I use sour cream as the dressing - I just love the simplicity of it and its delicious!…

Miralax is called Restoralax in Canada. I take a dose everyday because of some of the meds I am on. I cant say that it works really well - it does keep everything moving, even if not quite in a manner I like.

If I am really dragging my butt in the door, its delivery pizza! If I can still stand, then its a fritatta, with whatever leftover veggies I have around the house, usually mushrooms and zucchini and onions. Hubby loves pasta, so a quick spag and meat sauce will satisfy him, and I use spiralized zucchini as my noodles- I…

One of the hardest things I have had to deal with in this weight loss adventure was to not be so hard on myself when I wasnt "perfect". I tend to be an all or nothing kind of thinker - I remember my dad telling me as a child, and throughout my whole life that if something is worth doing, then it is worth doing well. Thats…

Being patient with the weight loss, being patient with myself and not having that "all or nothing - I have to be perfect" kind of mindset, which has seen me abandon so many previous attempts at losing weight. But honestly, I found that using the MFP method of calorie counting and logging made this experience of weight loss…

I think I like you Joe (John)!! I think you are pretty much bang on in your assessments, with one little caveat - timing of meals really doesnt matter in general. Maybe for you it does in a psychological way, and thats fine - but that is not the case for everyone. For me, I skip breakfast, start eating at lunch and then…

There are people who who are, and who have been heavier. Its inappropriate to refer to yourself in such derogatory terms when there are others in the same boat who feel that slap too. Be kind to yourself, we are all human and are in this journey together. Good luck!!

I cook at home 99% of the time. Once I have a recipe saved in my database, I generally dont have to recalculate it. I have a rotation of several favourite meals, so counting calories is literally a matter of seconds for me, by finding it in my database and logging it. I dont have the skill to guesstimate with any degree of…

the simplest answer is just to eat food that everyone likes, and you eat less.

I make no bones (ha!) about the fact that I am a carnivore - I eat meat and lots of it. I like beef especially and eat it in almost any form. Regularly and often. Lost over 100lbs since October 2015

Shrimp (with no batter or coating) are pretty low in calories but can be quite high in sodium. My preference in a seafood restaurant is salmon, with any sauce on the side. Sometimes its maple glazed and then I add the calories for about 1 tbsp of maple syrup. Tilapia is a low cal fish, but I find its so bland. Crab and…
