  • You can still eat the things you like and are used to, just in smaller quantities. Its hard to count, its hard being overweight - pick your hard. You can do it, you've done it before!
  • Thats cute - thanks!
  • This is bunk. EVERYONE fasts at one point or another (while we sleep), and it does nothing for cancer or any other disease. Intermittent Fasting is simply a way of eating, and it is easy to eat within an 8 hour window and not eat for 16 hours - again, the sleeping thing. Honestly, people spend way too much time on google…

  • I eat whatever I want within my calorie goals - I think if I had to label myself, it would be flexitarian - I eat animal products, and sometimes I eat vegetarian. I appreciate all kinds of food and cant imagine eliminating anything, especially if I liked it, unless it was for medical reasons.
  • Jeepers, isnt THIS a first world problem.
  • Eating clean is such a vague concept, one that differs from person to person and has so many interpretations that it is virtually a meaningless expression. Calories in, calories out - thats it (along with nutritional considerations of course. I would normally think that goes without saying but you never know....).
  • Read this about fraudulent foods before you choose Sea Bass: http://www.foxnews.com/food-drink/2014/02/11/most-common-counterfeit-foods-and-how-to-identify-them.html Yeah, its fox news but there are other more reputable sources that say the same thing.
  • How big is your tablespoon? A "tablespoon" is really only 15 grams, so unless thats what you are consuming, by weighing it so you know it to be true, your calorie count may be off.

  • Whats your definition of healthy?
  • My favourite cookbooks are the LooneySpoons Collection, Eat Shrink and Be Merry, Crazy Plates and Looney Spoons, all by Janet and Greta Podleski. These cookbooks cover a wide variety of foods, different cuisines vegetarian, etc. They use ordinary ingredients that are easily food at local grocery stores, and they give…

  • I use them like spaghetti - dry fry them for a couple of minutes to soften them up a bit, then smother them in your favourite spaghetti sauce - yum!
  • The chart provided can give you good information on where to look for the culprits behind your difficulty in moving past a particular point. I know its very hard to maintain a decent eating plan on the road but many people travel for business and have found a way to do it, so you can too. Another thing to remember is that…
  • The comment about lifestyle change really resonates with me - I am in this for life. The reason I have been successful with the MFP guidelines is that it is sustainable, so it really CAN be a new lifestyle. So I dont take breaks, and havent through 115lb loss over the last 18 months. This is the new me, and my new way of…
  • For me, it was just the realization that I didnt have to deny myself anything - that with a little planning, I could fit anything I wanted to eat into my day, and not feel guilty about it. So there was no restriction, or feelings of deprivation, which always set me up in th past for rebellion, and then overeating on the…
  • I have been on thyroid meds for 28 years, and in the last 18 months I have lost 115 lbs. If you are on the right meds and doseage, you will lose weight like anyone else. Dont fall into the trap of using your thyroid as a crutch to avoid being successful.
  • Congratulations! Its wonderful to see that the work you put into losing the extra pounds has paid off, and that is very motivating - keep up the good work!!
  • Yes I will. Message me with the deets!
  • One of my favourite expressions from MFP posters is "Motivation (or willpower or losing weight) is hard. Being obese (or fat or heavy) is hard - pick your hard" What do you want? A momentary hit of endorphins followed by self criticism and misery or another pound lost? No one can give you motivation - we all struggle and…
  • I lost my 115lbs without doing any intentional exercise, due to medical issues. Some of those are now resolved (at least partly) so now I am just naturally more active. But without doubt, counting calories, using a scale and keeping a log are what really contributed to the losses. And its sustainable. Without exercise I…
  • I have been on thyroid meds for 28 years and am today at my lowest weight in that time, as I have lost 115lbs over the last 18 months using MFP guidelines. If you are on the right meds and proper doseage you will lose weight like everyone else. Dont fall into the trap of believing that having thyroid issues prevents you…
  • Take out is really rare for us, uness you consider getting a prepared rotisserie chicken take out. We do that every couple of weeks. We make pizza at home - tastier and faster, and we get exactly what and how much stuff we like (and that means pineapple!) on top. Chocolate - whenever I can get it! If there was intravenous…
  • You can use eggplant as a sub for the pasta and with just that change, you would save a lot of calories I have done this and really, the difference is negligible in taste and texture.
  • I wish chinese food was as healthy as broccoli! Oh man I love that stuff. I could just pull up a chair at a buffet. So sadly I have had a dinner for one only once in the last 18 months - it is not something I can moderate. On the day I had it for dinner, I had eaten nothing else (not by choice). I still probably went over…
  • And dont forget that if you choose to make a crust with cauliflower or zucchini (saw that the other day), you can substantially lower the calorie count, but then the tradeoff is whether you really consider a cauliflower crust ANYTHING to be legit pizza.
  • I have thought about it. I have lost about 115lbs now, and there is some interesting action happening with my underarms, inner thighs and abdomen. Just not snapping back into shape like they once did. But I am 61 years old. No one sees me naked except hubs, and he loved me when I was 115 lbs heavier, so he's not likely to…
  • 115lbs down and to the best of my knowledge, no plateau. I say this because in the beginning, I only weighed myself every 6-8 weeks or so, when at the doc's office for other stuff. Now I weigh more frequently at home, but everytime I had no loss, or a gain of a bit, I knew exactly why that was and I knew how to address it.…
  • Do you have a fridge and/or microwave at work? I usually make all my lunches on sunday night and stack them in the fridge so that I just grab and go. Lunch always includes a piece of fruit (usually an apple, but I have been eating clementines and mandarins since Xmas like crazy) and an individual size serving of flavoured…
  • So I needed knee replacement surgery (I'm 61), and the doc says, you could lose 20 lbs - do that first and then see me again. I think he was testing me, to see what my committment was. So I lost 30lbs by the time I had my next appointment with him and so we were good to go for the surgery. By the time I had the operation,…
  • Find a good tailor - I would get my favourite outfits taken in at least once before I went to buy new stuff. I plan to wear some oversize summer pants this year because they are a baggy, cargo style, and will just be baggier this year. I dont like form fitting shirts, so no problem with Tees being a little big. I work in…
