Fair enough and all good points.

Yeah, no. The physiopathology and symptoms alone suggest it’s highly unlikely to be the cause of my issues. The indicative age range alone excludes me (plus a lot but not all runners) - 90% of cases of IC are 60 years old or older. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2778113/

Intriguing! I’ve never heard of ischemic colitis before so will research.

Sorry, I may be confused. I thought OP was suggesting that eating more calories would “jump start” her weight loss? Are we saying that it would? Or could? Or might? “Never” seems a good word to use there...
-
Exactly. Consuming more calories does not help you lose weight. Having more “motivation” does not help you lose weight. Only eating less than you burn loses weight. Other issues may help you stay on track but saying “eating more to lose more” is horribly misleading and perpetuates the myth of starvation mode.

But....math? Eating 1200 and burning 2000 (ie no exercise for an average woman) gives a deficit of 800 calories. Or a loss of 1.6lbs per week. Eating 1600 and burning 2400 (ie 2000 plus 400 exercise) gives a deficit of 800 calories. Or a loss of 1.6lbs per week. Increasing your calories can motivate you to work out but it…

This. It’s highly unlikely that fat has been exchanged with lean muscle mass to the effect of a change of only 1 or 2lbs. Particularly when eating at deficit. Much more likely that there is some flaw in the system which accounts for small amounts of gains and losses with no significant progress.

Any drug which affects your metabolic rate to that level would be prescription only and only prescribed under close medical supervision to avoid knock on medical issues. Over the counter drugs are highly unlikely to screw your metabolism so much that you gain 6lbs in such a short period of time. Much more likely is water…

Active calories only. Total calories includes an element of calories which you would have burnt anyway during that period just for existing. This is already built into your daily calorie goal by MFP so if you add this element in again, you are over counting those calories.
-
Ive never come across an over the counter drug that causes weight gain. Some pills cause an increase in appetite but that doesn’t mean you gain weight. Eating more than you burn causes weight gain.
-
Drat. So they really have no positive side.

I guess the manufacturer wanted to limit the calories of the product and limited the portion size to what seemed reasonable. Cos 400 calories for one cookie is a lot.
-
Having to ask “do you do any smaller sizes?” In a fancy posh clothes shop with snotty 15 year old staff.

You’ll need a new mattress since the firm one you currently use was enhanced by the extra “padding” you used to carry. I loved my orthopaedic mattress and used to spend hours reading in bed. Now my hips and bum ache after about 15mins of sitting up. Time for a new softer mattress.

I rarely feel really enthusiastic before exercising - I’d usually rather stay in bed than do parkrun on a Saturday morning. But guilt and habit get me up and out even when I have 0 energy. On those days I take it easy but still get out there. I always feel 100% better afterwards and have way more energy. Pain is different…

Random question - would they count towards your fruit and veg intake (“5 a day” for those in UK)? Or not enough volume and fibre?
-
A bit of both plus it’s a habit now. I’ve also found that my chronic migraines are much better when I exercise regularly but no idea why.

5’4.5” (that half inch is vital!). Went from 237 to 125lb in about 22 months.

I definitely find the topography of my runs affects me. Going uphill - fine. On a level - fine. Downhill - need the loo. I’d echo those people who recommending you “go” before you go. Even then I still something have to walk.
-
Wait, a serving size is half a cookie? Who on earth only eats half a cookie?!
-
9lbs if I remember correctly. After two weeks in Texas. Came off really quickly so I guess it was mostly water and waste.

Awesome advice everyone, thanks. Down the spreadsheet rabbit hole I go...

Coz I’m anal ;)

Agree with the others (not @Omnimous69 - starvation mode doesn’t exist). If you are 100% on your tracking (ie you are weighing everything you consume) you haven’t gained fat. It’s probably water weight.
-
I would guess (and I’ll defer to anyone with more experience) that something with medium fat, medium sugar/carb and low protein would probably work. Ultimately Weight loss is about calories in vs calories out. Your problem will be that portion sizes are going to be fairly small due to the high amount of calories per gram…

I bow down and worship. 2.5km is enough for me in one session!

I couldn’t get into your diary but I think that’s my app rather than your settings. Assuming that you're there or about with 1500 calories, don’t sweat it. You won’t be gaining (even in a coma you’d lose weight) so be confident you haven’t gained fat. Likely the water weight will come off in a big “whoosh” and give you a…

I’m guessing you have a long and sustained history with MFP to be able to advise on setting macros to meet the individual needs of users?
-
You mention a lot of different figures for your calorie target (1200, 1500-1800). What is the target MFP set you? Can you make your diary public? That will help us spot quirks and bugs. You say you went from 132 to 128.6 in the first three weeks. That’s a loss of over 3lb which is nice and reasonable loss. It’s entirely…
