  • Another month, another bump. :)
  • From everything I've read on these forums over the past couple of years or so, it is! Not only because you have to do it for the rest of your life, but also because you don't get the ongoing motivation of scale losses or smaller clothing sizes (and possibly a lack of congratulatory comments from friends and relatives, if…
  • I wondered if perhaps the OP had a Fitbit or something that said she'd burned over 2000 during the course of the day, and she thought that needed to be logged as exercise when it was actually TDEE. But if she's logged lower amounts (I didn't look back at other days) then I presume that's not the case. Something's off…

  • If she hasn't lost weight then she's most likely eating more than that, but since she hasn't returned to answer any further questions it's a bit hard to say!
  • You might find it helpful to start your own thread for specific advice, or to look into joining one of the keto/low carb groups here on these boards. Just be aware that (like I mentioned above), unless you have a medical reason to reduce your carb intake then there's nothing special about it. If you happen to like that way…
  • Protein may be more beneficial in some ways (given the same amount of calories), I'm not arguing against that. Protein is good! My argument is with @Commander_Keen apparently claiming (everywhere he goes on these boards) that low carb is somehow magic for weight loss. If the OP simply switches out carbs for protein but…
  • That's a LOT of exercise, OP - did you actually burn that much? If so, you need to eat more to fuel that exercise!

  • Fat loss still all comes down to calories at the end of the day, regardless of which macros those calories come from. Eating high protein and low carb might help curb appetite for some people (and assist in muscle retention), but it'll do diddly squat for fat loss unless the person is also in a calorie deficit.
  • Completely unnecessary unless OP has a medical condition that necessitates cutting carbs.
  • If your BMR is 1542, you should not be eating less than that. If you mean your TDEE, you might be okay (but that's kinda low). Time, patience, accuracy are all required. Answers to the questions asked by the previous posters will help people give you better advice!
  • Others have eloquently said everything that really needed to be said, so all I have to add on the subject...

  • Thank you - it was a surprise, to be honest! I don't feel like I'm doing well, not mentally at least, but I'm trying to work my way out of it. :)
  • Eat as many times per day as you want to and as fits your schedule, but stay within your daily calorie goal (EDIT: or weekly goal, if you want to work that way) if you're aiming to lose weight. :) (Personally, I do three meals and two or three snacks - it works for me. Figure out what keeps you happy and full enough -…
  • Here's an example of how cutting out what you really crave can sometimes backfire... :) Sometimes, you should just eat the pie!
  • I didn't cut out anything - I would have felt deprived and given up, in that case! I learned how to work in the foods I love, especially chocolate... sometimes I go over my calorie limit, but I do it knowingly rather than out of ignorance of how many calories are in my treat! As for "cheat meals", I personally don't like…

  • That's very true - the first time I actually measured my "glass" of wine, it only filled about 2/3 of the glass I was using. And it wasn't a big glass either!
  • I always go up a pound or two (at least!) after a high sodium or high carb meal. I've heard of some people "gaining" 5-6lbs or more after a single evening out! Drink more water - it comes off eventually, but it can be frustrating... especially if it happens before a weigh-in... ;)
  • Buy frozen fruit and veg instead of fresh - it's more economical (and frozen at its peak, so just as healthy) and will last for months, allowing you to just add a little bit to your meals without worrying about wasting expensive produce. Make a deal with yourself that you'll try one new "healthier" recipe each week, and if…
  • I'm the same height as you, OP, and a year older - you're within a healthy BMI range (not in the overweight category - 154lbs is the top end for our height), so it's going to be very slow I'm afraid! Weight fluctuations are very normal for lots of reasons, even if you're not getting the monthly hormone surges any more, so…
  • I used to think I was addicted to chocolate. Any "diet" that was going to force me to give it up was doomed to fail... hence I didn't even bother, and just stayed fat until I was introduced to MFP. Learning that I could still fit in the things I love to eat AND lose weight was the best gift ever! :) What really helped me…
  • It's all about balance! :) Happy anniversary (I know it goes so fast - 30 for me this year and that doesn't feel possible), and enjoy your meal!
  • Not necessarily - depends on his aesthetic goals I guess. I'm also 5'6" and female, and the healthy range goes up to 11st (154lbs) for us... the range for men is probably not greatly different (I haven't looked it up, but I'm guessing a few pounds more for men). I'm very sedentary so my maintenance calories are low and I…
  • Nice work, everybody! :)
  • Well, your plan is kind-of working...! ;)
  • The same goes for over-restricting to "punish" yourself or to compensate. It'll be okay, don't panic. :)
  • https://www.skinnytaste.com/crock-pot-chicken-taco-chili-4-pts/ My version of this (which uses almost all the same ingredients, except navy beans instead of kidney beans) is about 270 calories depending on how much my pieces of chicken weigh. The batch I made this week, I actually got 12 cups out of rather than 10 so it's…
  • UserID: SueSueDio Weigh in: Weds wk 1 PW: 159.5 CW: 159.5 Considering what I ate yesterday, I'm happy to only be up 1/2lb from Tuesday's weight! It does mean I'm treading water at the moment, but it's better than gaining. Going out for dinner to celebrate my son's birthday tonight, but should be able to get back on track…
  • Ah - that will probably help too, if you're trying to deal with a new puppy and upset kitty all by yourself! Can you perhaps find a type of cat tree/perch that has steps or a ladder too steep for the puppy but that the cat can still manage to climb? That might give him a bit of the space he needs. Also, maybe putting the…
