Hang in there and try 1200 calories/day. My weight loss was frustratingly slow to start with then it all dropped off.

Even when people's diaries are open, I still can't work out how to see them without friending them.

I think maybe I wasn't drinking enough water - could that be the case for you as well?
-
Yes! I went through a stage in my first couple of months of MFP of getting dizzy whenever I stood up. I put it down to low blood pressure but it's also possible I just wasn't eating enough. It seems to have gone away now.

I lost 15kg through weight watchers and discovering a new group exercise class - Pump, where you lift weights. It was really fun and I loved seeing my weights get heavier & heavier. I did gain half back when I got slack with eating but have lost it again through MFP. For me the novelty of a new exercise or app is really…

Do you do weights training? Deadlifts, squats, lunges have all helped me build muscle and reduce sag.

You have my sympathy. Fibromyalgia is not a nice condition to have.

I agree about taking photos! Do you have s photo of yourself 30lbs ago that you can tape to the mirror? Now that should make you feel better!

Check out swing dancing! So much fun.

What I meant to say was that I definitely think age and hormones are a major factor. It has been a LOT easier in the past for me to lose weight. This time I plan to keep it off as I know it will be even harder next time!

I am 47 and have been doing MFP for 7 weeks now, strength & cardio with 1200 calories. I've only lost 2kg in that time, which is very frustrating, but on the other hand I feel fitter and I really do look a lot better. I have 4kg to go to reach the very top end of the healthy weight range for my height. Hang in there!

If I'm hungry after dinner I have a cup of decaf tea. Mmmm

Hang in there! I am 45 and in the first 5 weeks lost only 1kg despite doing everything everyone here is telling you to do. I had many "what's the point?" moments. But suddenly the weight starting coming off and I feel and look better despite only seeing a small movement in the scales for do long. My husband reminded me…

Grated in salad with other veges (carrot, zucchini) or just on their own, with a simple balsamic dressing, maybe with some toasted pumpkin seeds or walnuts & some feta cheese. I also put them in smoothies - yum! Tasty and lots of fibre. Not sure if anyone has mentioned but don't be alarmed if what comes out the other end…

Thanks - good advice. Will do that from now on.

Ha! Oh yes that one got me once too!

By the way, half a cup of mango has 11g of sugar, not 115. Perhaps the decimal point was just in the wrong place?
-
I'm 45 and have been losing very slowly on 1200 calories, which has been frustrating but now just accepting that 1kg a month is still losing. It was definitely easier when we were younger!

A couple of years ago I had success with Weight Watchers. My overweight friend said she wanted to lose weight but her husband wouldn't let her spend money on WW when he thought she should just eat less. This is a man who drinks a bottle of wine every night. He could have given up one of those bottles to pay for her weekly…

Also seals have a lot of vitamin C, so Antarctic sailors are those.

It may be irritating to see the same question come up again and again, but sometimes people just need a little support and reassurance. When you are just starting out and you see the exact same number on the scale every day for 14 days, it can be incredibly frustrating. Sometimes you can be doing everything right and…

OP, I am in the same spot as you. My husband just reminded me that this happens every time I try to lose weight: a great first week and then nothing for 3 weeks. Just when I'm about to give up and hit the donuts, the weight starts falling off. So I just have to be patient. Currently 2 weeks with no weight loss despite…

Needless to say, I gained weight, despite all the calories supposedly burned by producing milk!

This sounds like hormones - they treat we women very unfairly sometimes! When I was breastfeeding my children, my hormones switched off my 'full' button. Not to say I was always hungry, but I couldn't rely on my stomach to tell me when I over ate.
-
It's not the lack of gluten that has made you lose weight, it's the lower carbs.
-
Oh dear that is the opposite to what all the others' advice has been. Now I'm confused! Yes I am getting heaps of veges in there too. I am still staying under my calories, but do you reckon I should be getting calories from something else instead?

I wish there was a 'like' button so I could acknowledge people's help without typing s whole reply to them! Consider your posts all liked!

It counts naturally occurring sugars as that's pretty much the only kind I've been eating. But thank you, you have been very helpful.
-
So basically the nutrition goals per day and the 'try to keep under x for sugar' don't really matter and I should ignore them? Or at least not stress out about them.
-
Thanks for that. Patience is not one of my virtues.
