MrHill, I agree with what PAV said above, and hope you take it to heart. I did not have as much to lose but six months into my sensibly paced deficit, I was feeling better, not tired - ready to pick up a barbell and start lifting. I admit I did sometimes feel deprived, but that was in error and not what I was aiming for. I…

Recovery is part of progress, so I always take a day of rest from lifting between lifting days. But I’m doing full body compounds.

Great update, thanks for checking in!
-
Love the update, keep it up!
-
Looking forward to your updates!

You don’t have to be an expert to post here. OP, you can do it - just take a reasonable amount of time to do so. By the New Year, you can have made a terrific amount of progress. Set up your goals in MFP, get started, and let us know how it’s going! If you are down 20 pounds by New Year, perhaps you could just get a modest…

As the NT mom of an ND person, I chuckled over the comminucation gap of the last couple of pages! @ddsb1111, you’ve got it, you can ignore “around” and use “at.” There are some reasons “around” would have worked better as a term for some people, as some people would have found it stressful to feel like they had to target…

@ddsb1111 Glad to hear I’m not alone in figuring out maintenance. I think it’s about 3 weeks since my last post on this thread. I started eating more on lift days to fuel my workout. I also have been eating slightly larger portions at dinner, and/or eating a snack-sized lunch (after eating no lunch for 10 months). It’s all…

I wonder if the logic is that both methods are imperfect, so the one that is probably easier (and possibly less triggering for some people) is recommended? I dunno, I’d be more of a fan if it was phrased as an option rather than dismissing CICO and selling this as the only solution.
-
Of course you’re starving, you’re eating a small saladto power you through your day! Shift more calories (including protein) into your lunch as opposed to starving all day and binging at dinner. You’ll feel so much better! Best of luck!

Pony, I think it’s lovely that you have such warm memories of your family. Not all families end up with hugs and love. For some it is quite the opposite. For such people, it is hard to hear that they should be “treasuring” putdowns, dismissals of bodily autonomy, and so on. If the OP generally feels safe with their family…
-
I didn’t hear any “worry” or “anxiety” described. I heard “control” and “toxicity.” If anything, I would think the family behavior was on the causal side of the ED, rather than the effect.

How are you feeling about this? Do you think you can stay balanced? Do you have a plan to avoid past issues? I wish you well.
-
However much time it takes will pass either way. Also, you will enjoy the fruits of your efforts even before you cross the finish line.

I think different things work for different people. Physics is physics, but there are people for whom counting calories is a dark path due to their backgrounds. I don’t have that background, but I use the plate method (without realizing it was a method) just due to vision loss making building my calorie log just too…

There are no magic words or responses to fix someone who thinks it’s okay to bully you into complying with their wishes. Best you can do, besides maybe coming down with something and having to miss the “vacation” (and just not going next year) is to just say thanks, don’t feel like cookies right now, thanks, I ate all I…

Did you log exercise? Often trackers overestimate the calories burned. A lot of people end up eating back some (like half) of their exercise calories. Also, what activity level did you select? You might need to select a lower activity level. This level would correspond to your activity outside of, not including,…

@williamsonmj1 Thanks for the info, that is useful. Thinking of adding lateral raises to help shoulders. Have always had better arms than anything else. Want to catch everything else up.

StrongLifts beginner Got weak on overheads - After a good workout with military press, I increased weight again the next workout and bombed. I immediately dropped back to previous weight and bombed that too. Fine, I figured I just exerted myself too much. Next session did previous weight and could not complete all reps.…

<shrug> I do it. I’m sure there are reasons it’s not ideal but surely it’s better than skipping. Go for it.

No, it’s not safe to be in a calorie deficit during pregnancy. Focus on getting good nutrition and exercise.
-
What kind of workouts are you doing?
-
Hmm. Not sure. I pulled up a day I did 8,500 ish steps and logged 200ish calories. Hills were involved. One thing I wonder is if your stats are looking correct on your device? Your weight would affect calculations. I just have a phone, not a watch, so I’m not familiar with how heart rate affects calculations. Are you…

You absolutely can exercise for the purpose of increasing how many calories you can eat. However, be aware: - many apps, trackers, and calculators overestimate calorie burn, so you may have less leeway than the number you get - it takes a lot to burn 100 calories, and it’s awfully easy to eat it. So it may not net you as…

It’s absolutely fine to walk a lot. Are your walks enjoyable to you and do they fit into the balance of your life? Or are they taking up too much of your focus and taking away from other responsibilities, or enjoyment? That is the question. As for whether to increase your speed, I think it would boost your cardiovascular…

You’re doing a great job at managing your disappointment and keeping on. That really is the key to meeting your goals, the ability to push past your feelings and stay on a logical course. Well done.

Your iPhone looks not only at the number of steps taken but also other factors such as whether you walked on a flat surface, uphill, downhill, flights of stairs, etc. So it’s not a simple calculation of 100 steps equaling 1 calorie or anything like that.

2 pounds loss in a month has you at a 250 calorie daily deficit on average. You can keep it up, and it may feel more sustainable to you that way. Or if you want to increase to 1 pound loss per week, you can cut an additional 250 calories daily on average. Good luck!

Your body can only metabolize so much body fat per day. If you lose more aggressively, it will metabolize your muscle mass to make up the difference. That means you will be weaker, and also look it. Furthermore, this increases your already high chance of regaining the flab, as you will be lowering your BMR that much more.…

If you’re not hungry, you probably are eating more than 800-900 calories - unless you have an eating disorder. Are you eating like you normally do, or have you made changes recently? What is your current weight and what are your goals?
