At the rate I lost (.75 pounds per week), it would have taken me 13-17 weeks to lose 10-13 pounds. The time passes either way. I’m very happy with the results.

It might be 1200 plus exercise calories.
-
My thought is that exercise calories are often (or usually) overestimated by apps. If you eat back your exercise calories, try eating back only a portion, such as half.

How many pounds of muscle might OP have added in what amount of time?

I think a break would be the right choice. Your focus needs to be on healing, and you’ll want to have adequate nutrition for that. Trying to deal with logging will be stressful for both you and your DIL. You will be improving over time so it’s not like it will be 12 weeks totally out. Maybe you don’t worry about weight at…

I feel like if the OP was training at the level of elite tier recomp, she would have mentioned it. She’s doing great, that many inches lost is a serious win. It’s no putdown to doubt she’s achieving god-tier muscle gain. It is almost certainly something else, whether a stuck scale, or maybe our assumptions on te actual…

If they accept extremely low calorie diaries with no disclaimer, they could encourage or seem to encourage disordered eating. Personally, I would prefer to handle the disclaimer (and it is nothing more than that) rather than insist they encourage disordered eating.

This is my personal experience and may not apply. I used to feel low energy after eating, and it felt like I didn’t eat enough. I would often “top off” with moderately sweetened cereal or a bowl of ice cream, and would feel better then. It seems I was experiencing a post meal blood sugar crash. Instead of the meal…

To lose that many inches over that much time and still to see the exact same number makes me wonder if your scale needs new batteries. Though I’d be emotionally prepared to possibly see a HIGHER number - if your scale has been off a long time, you might have been seeing an artifically low number all along. Either way,…

Congratulations on a great start. Two pounds per week loss is considered the most aggressive rate for sustainable loss, possibly with wiggle room for much higher starting weight. So take the “only” out so you are equipped for success. Your initial 8 pound loss is fine, though, since it’s largely water weight. Keep it up!

If I get sick, I’m going to rest with ZERO guilt. Rest is top priority when the body is fighting a virus. Your athletic gains will not disappear from resting a few days. If you are doing progressive overload strength training or C25K training or another type of progressive program, it will just delay your next progressive…

I was the one above who said maintenance was feeling exactly like calorie deficit. I wanted to update in case my post discouraged anyone. At the time I wrote that, I was about 7 weeks into maintenance, and right now is 4 weeks later. I had kept the same weight over the 7 week period. During deficit, I never would swing…

I believe I have a very low BMR due to a couple of factors. For me, I switched to eating two meals per day instead of three. It worked for me because I felt like I could get better nutrition that if I were just eating 400 calorie meals, which honestly are snacks. There was some time getting used to it but not as long as I…

Continuing beginner level Stronglifts. Creatine - I didn’t take this because I’m not going to be an elite weightlifter so didn’t feel any need to supplement. But I read a brief mention that it helps with ATP function and I got to thinking. I have some kind of chronic fatigue, post viral syndrome, and I get post exertion…

Good grief, Tony! How are you feeling?
-
Happy to hear of your progress! At 161 pounds, 1 lb weekly weight loss will be more sustainable than 2 lbs, something to take into consideration.
-
Felt like I acheived a milestone of sorts today, so wanted to share. Recently started Stronglifts and am starting from “absolute wreck,” having never had any athletic inclination or skill whatsoever and having BRUTALLY neglected both lower body and core since early childhood. I developed a weak spot in my lower back as a…

Three days isn’t a plateau.

No, certainly not. But some of us might have a friend or sibling or spouse we can ask if we look okay in this outfit or whatever. I normally would not need that but I can’t judge for myself any longer. So I’ve decided, screw it, I’m fine 👍

Unlikely that anyone is gaining muscle at the rate they are losing fat, unless it’s on an incredibly small scale. Exercising like crazy may be good for the body but does nothing for weight loss unless you are in a calorie deficit. Exercise can contribute to a deficit but if you’re not in a trend of losing weight, you’re…

You’re losing at around 0.5 lbs per week, which is a nice, sustainable pace. I lost only a little quicker than you at 0.75 pounds per week, and I reached my goal in about six months feeling great. Keep it up!

I have another layer to this struggle, because I have low vision and cannot see in a mirror anymore. I can barely see a photograph, only under the best conditions and even then very poorly. So I have very little idea what I look like right now. Also difficult because I have noone to give me feedback. I thought my husband…

Does the coffee bother your afib?

What specifically are you struggling with? Is it harder to keep a calorie deficit, are you feeling deprived? Are you tired of measuring and logging everything? Or are you doing it all okay but the weight just stopped coming off like it was before, and what was working is no longer working? And how long has it been a…

Yeah, I understand why there are all these responses. IF doesn’t work for everyone, but it certainly doesn’t involve any form of starvation, so it’s hard to leave that unaddressed. I don’t subscribe to IF but perhaps I do it without meaning to, as I eat only two meals and no snacks (a late breakfast and a dinner). There is…

She didn’t say a stone, it was 3 pounds. 3 pounds of water, of course.

One way to lessen stress on your part is to understand that his choices are his and yours are yours. So you are not responsible for helping him, fixing him, softening the natural consequences of his actions or inactions, helping his relationships with other people, or anything else like that. You are also not obligated to…

I hear ya, hon. Stress makes things incredibly difficult. First, figure out exactly what is going on. For example, do you get too tired to prepare foods and then resort to takeout or junk food? Or are you trying to emotionally soothe with treats? Or something else? Whatever you can do to reduce your stress is well worth…

My understanding (and I could be wrong) is that amenorrhea (loss of period - but it would have to be several to be official) can be caused by too low body weight/body fat - but not really from too low calories for someone with currently adequate body mass/fat. So, are you currently at too low a weight?

In a few weeks, I will have more control over what I eat (currently prepare food with the needs of my teen in mind) and will play around with macros. I wonder if more fat and/or protein will help.
