How long since you stopped losing weight, and how long since you stopped menstruating?

I’ve got a barbell and some weights 💪 That’s the main thing I’ll be working on.

Thanks, everyone. Yes, I’m doing it just for basic cardiovascular health, that’s it. I do walk as well but don’t have control over the pace, so it’s quite leisurely. Unfortunately, I’m going to be losing my walks as well soon. Honestly, when I posted I wasn’t even thinking about the fact that I won’t be able to get to the…

I don’t realistically have another choice due to disability. Actually, at some point I won’t even be able to get to the gym and will be entirely homebound, so I’ll have to some jumping jacks or some crap like that at home. I’m willing to do the treadmill, but do I have to make progress or can I just do the same effort each…

A lot of people here at MFP eat back only half their exercise calories, or some other partial portion. The reason is that exercise calories are frequently overestimated by a lot of devices. But you definitely need to ensure you are fueling yourself adequarely.

How long has it been? Anything changed - like adding new exercise, travel, recent viral illness…? Sorry to hear of your health issues but fantastic work on addressing it. So many do not. Keep it up!

I think we all have different ideas about what healthy eating looks like, and that’s cool. One thing a lot of people agree on is eating more “whole foods” like vegetables, fruits, and legumes. The Mediterranean way of eating is often cited as health-supporting and includes whole foods along with grains and fish. What kinds…

It’s hotter where there’s no air conditioning! But… yeah, 26C is pleasant, not hot!

For me, maintenance feels exactly like calorie restriction. I cannot tell where any extra calorie is, I thought I’d be able to eat 375 extra calories a day, and apparently I am, but I don’t see or feel them whatsoever. I thought I’d at least be able to, say, eat an apple for lunch instead of no lunch. Nope. I am not…

Kinglevy, feel free to report back in a few weeks and tell us how things are going.

Glad you figured the likely issue out! Good luck!

It is hard - but you can do it! Yes, no matter how hard you work, if the calories aren’t in a deficit, you won’t lose. Do you feel very hungry at night after a hard day of depriving yourself and working hard? When I let my hunger get out of control, I eat more to try to feel better. Maybe eating nutritious food throughout…

Just saw that one, she’s amazing.

I agree with Ann and Maggie. I absolutely do not discount that there is some form of difficulty losing weight around this age, but I’m not sure if the difficulty is what we assume it is. I’m not sure what is going on, but I think some factors include busy and stressful lives that lead us to kind of crash and veg out any…

How long have you been on the 1500 calories, and how is it working for you? Exercise is very good for you, but if you have a lot going on it might be better to just focus on the nutrition for now.

I find it quite helpful as a tool, and more motivating than just tracking increased lifts alone. As a beginner, I feel like it reflects what I expect. It also accurately and disappointingly reflects how much weaker I am in the lower body compared to upper. The only thing that stood out to me was the barbell curl for women,…

Strengthlevel.com is what you are looking for!

Yeah, but do it “mindfully.”

Just wanted to say that on Tuesday, I went all out on two lifts (some external limitations on the others right now). Upped my weight, by the last set was having to rest several seconds between reps just to finish. Aaannnd. No soreness. Did feel pretty great the next day, though. This weight lifting stuff is pretty…

I don’t understand why you’re doing 12/12. You need to be doing 12:05/11:55. Do you have a dietician you can consult?

Hi! I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. You certainly have a lot on your plate. But I am hearing resolve from you and commend you for it. I agree that it’s very important. When you get sick, is it a viral illness or is it some sort of reaction to stress? Or perhaps something else, even. I think how you manage it depends on…

For those who find walking strenuous, rest days are definitely reasonable.

I have a similar condition, actually! But will start another thread later on. Carry on with the DOMS discussion! 💪

I’m taking Floradix right now because my kid tells me I have bruises all over my legs. (I’m vision impaired/blind). But then I hear my legs are turning purple so I suspect it’s something else. Sigh. But the chronic fatigue is not a simple case of iron deficiency, I’ve had it for almost 15 years and was tested up the wazoo.…

Ann, I think I’ve felt the “pleasantly taut” thing you mentioned, probably on a low level. So that’s good. As for tired, I don’t think it’s too bad. I do have chronic fatigue and have managed to avoid triggering it at the level I’m going at. I might post seperately, to not derail, to muse about other factors.

I’ve already known I need to step it up more, have been making plans (and also need to acquire more weight for my deadlift, which I just started). It sounds like I should be at least somewhat sore if I’m trying to progress - and not just tired.
-
Thanks for this info. If I am trying to make progress rather than just maintaining my level, is lack of soreness a sign I’m not pushing hard enough? I’m tired at the end but not sore anymore.

Hello, and welcome! What kind of healthy eating appeals to you? Whatever you do, you’ll want to choose a direction you like so you can maintain it. Keep in mind that healthier eating, while imho very important for your health, is not enough alone to lead to weight loss - you can eat healthy without being in a calorie…

The treadmills in some gyms have a “speed interval” button that lets you toggle between two speeds. Even if you change your speed throughout your workout, it makes it easier to just toggle and tweak rather than crank the numbers all the way up and down every time.

I was expecting to read that you struggled to lose weight, and instead see you’re already 72% of the way to goal! Keep it up, you’re almost there! You may need to tighten up logging, as it’s easy to slack a bit after a while. Or perhaps your BMR is a little lower from your weight loss and you may need to adjust downward…
