Eggs, chicken, turkey, fish, dairy...red meat is only one small part of where you can get protein from!

I'm a big fan of vents.

Why would anyone buy this pre-made, when you can buy something like a rotisserie chicken or any other kind of meat with a bone, eat all the chicken, and then boil it for the broth? Makes great soup! But I guess it makes sense in a world where you can buy spiralized butternut squash or riced cauliflower for a 400% markup.

Eating a fritatta for breakfast, playing some Diablo to relax before a crazy work week coming up.

I was where you are a year ago, and the pain is just a normal part of the process. I used an elliptical for two years before starting running, and the impact on the body is much more severe with running, so I'm not too surprised you're feeling different that after your exercise bike. Sounds to me like you're where you need…

Have a blast and don't overthink it!

Great job quitting smoking, you're already much healthier for having done that! Once you value being at a healthier weight more than you value the endorphins you get from overeating, it'll be much easier. Just like the guys above said, it's all mental and a matter of deciding what's more important to you. Best of luck!

Honestly, no one cares that you're there. When I'm at the gym and someone else is there, the only time I even register that they are there is if they are being annoyingly loud (mostly men grunting in that case), and at that point all I do is turn my music up. No one cares about your fat or lack thereof. Get focused and get…

You'll lose weight (or gain it) because of the actions you take, not your frame of mind. If you're looking for a way to stop wanting to overeat, I'm not sure that exists. You just have to make better choices regardless. I think the kick in the behind you're looking for is just to start doing it and stop waiting to feel a…

For me, working out is one of the keys to not overeating. The thought of how crappy it feels to work out when I'm overstuffed is one piece of my motivation to not do it in the first place. Feeling lighter and enjoying my workout is more valuable to me than the food. On my rest days I'm much more likely to give in to…

One thing I've found that helps me with cutting down is scheduling two workouts in the day, one in the morning and one in the evening. I love my workouts, and if I am even slightly hungover, it makes it a much less enjoyable experience. Having the two workouts makes sure I don't drink in the evening because: 1. I'm busy…

My wife and I both got Desk Cycles a few weeks ago, and they're amazing. Most of my hobbies are at the computer, and just keeping my legs moving while I'm sitting has made a huge difference. Even at almost no resistance, it makes a difference in my progress.

When I make us burgers I do them open-face, with just a bun on the bottom and plenty of veggies on top. Can usually even pick them up if I melt the cheese on top of everything to kind of seal it all together. Half the bread, with lean burgers.

Thanks! I love the common sense and the not-taking-themselves-too-seriously that I've seen in this community.

The advice about throwing away your scale may not be a bad idea. At one point I bought an electronic scale and after agonizing over its ups and downs, I tried weighing myself a few times in a row, and got a variance of 5 pounds up or down within 2 minutes. We retired the electronic scale and got a beam scale (medical…

Finally lost enough weight to start running this week...back when I was in shape I would just run for the joy of it; no tracking or goal in mind, just because it feels good. While I'm nowhere near that yet (I'd swear my neighborhood is uphill both ways!), I'm finally on the way back.

Someone at work last week asked me what I was doing to lose weight, and I just said "I'm making sure I eat less than I burn in a day." Simple enough to answer the question, and if they want to know the gory details it's a good jumping off point.

For me, working toward something positive is 1000% more effective than beating myself up and trying to *not* do something. What I mean is, instead of concentrating on stopping the negative thoughts, find something positive you can work toward - fitting into a shirt that is just a tiny bit too tight, or hitting a step goal…
