  • Protein comes from a lot of places, not just animal products. Leafy greens, legumes, beans, and the like. Grains like quinoa are also protein rich. Also brown rice. Look outside the "protein comes from meat" box, and you'll add not only some more protein, but some more variety.
  • Just a note, not all wine is vegan friendly, if I understand my vegan friends correctly. I believe there is something to do with fish and filtering, but I'm currently too lazy to google it. There are plenty that are, but you have to do your research. I do agree that if you're trying to stay away from "processed" then…
  • I don't work the hours you do, but I do sometimes work a shift that has me getting home late, and often a little hungry, usually not ready to wind down, and possibly a little cranky. I am prone to making bad choices, too. Knowing what I usually crave at that time helps, so I can plan a snack accordingly. Last night, I had…
  • My go to comfort food, easy pasta is a bit of olive oil, salt and pepper, maybe some sort of herbs or seasoning, peas (peas and pasta is my favorite combo for some reason), and some Parmesan. Some times I'll add a dash of balsamic vinegar. You can add your protein of choice.
  • Yoga with Adrienne is a good place to start, though I find her a little boring if I want a more challenging practice or need a deeper stretch. I found in a thrift store several Power Yoga with Adrienne Reed (different Adrienne) dvds that I LOVE. Each one focuses on a different thing (flexibility, fat burning, core,…
  • I'm still a very beginner runner and have stopped and started a couple of time over the last few months. I've been bouncing back and forth between week 1 and 2 of the app is use that's similar to C25K. Did my first cold weather run today (I'm a reptile, so dressing warm enough without being too warm is proving…
  • I am mostly plant based and have been for the better part of a year. I wasn't a big meat eater, anyway, and had already cut way back on dairy due to digestion issues over the last few years. By mostly plant based I mean very very little dairy (I will still eat cheese and butter but I limit it-especially the cheese since I…
  • I use a similar app, but find the calorie count to be way too high. I also use MapMyRun, which syncs to MFP, and is a more accurate count.
  • This made me quite literally laugh out loud. I'm gonna start playing hide and seek with my boss, but not telling her. ;) OP, another thought. If you're like me, you may not be able to eat the same thing, day in and day out, even if it does taste good (except for pizza. I have no doubt I could eat pizza breakfast, lunch,…
  • I do this. It really only works if you do it immediately, and I still usually take my scrub brush to it a bit. Don't bother if you're like me, rush to get done, and leave it sitting till later!
  • I will still never forget the kind hearted but absolutely clueless girlfriend of my uncle, who made some side that she said she made vegan for my brother. "It just has chicken stock! It's fine!" She could not seem to grasp that chickens still had to die to make the stock, so it wasn't, in fact, something my brother would…
  • Even when I still ate meat, I only really ever took turkey at Thanksgiving out of good manners and tradition. The highlight of a Thanksgiving dinner IS the sides for me, since I don't typically eat stuffing, mashed potatoes, and green bean casserole! Sadly, I'll be working over Thanksgiving, so I won't be with my family,…
  • I'm not wild about salads. Every now and again, I really want one, but, for the most part, I avoid them and have stopped trying to force myself to make and eat them at home. If it's trying to get more veggies in you, I do a lot better with a nice bowl of cooked veggies with some brown rice or quinoa, maybe with some beans…
  • Since everyone is sharing pics! Here are my girls! I also included a pic of my whole gang, since cats were mentioned. My cats walk with me most days :) My girls walk in martingale collars, but neither are particularly strong pullers (the big girl walks off leash at home. Little one is almost ready for that). I'm not a fan…
  • I wash usually twice a week, occasionally more if I've done something to make it gross (usually, that involves trying a new styling product I hate and having to "start over."). I actually prefer my hair on the dirty side, as it is far more manageable. My hair is short, straight, and very soft and fluffy and it is nearly…
  • I'd go along with this. On the rare occasion I eat breakfast that early, I am usually looking for second breakfast by 9 or 10.
  • Get that boy to class. They don't come trained. That's our job. He should be learning sit, down, stay, COME (super important to his safety), and loose leash walking/heeling. A class or trainer will also help with getting him focused on you and not everything else and will give you tools to help refocus him. Pitties are…
  • I'm a new runner and have been following the 3 days a week thing. This week was the first time I've ran 4 days (I was bored yesterday afternoon and had some time to kill and it was pretty out. So I went for an easy run. I don't know who I am anymore!). 5 or 6 this early on would kill me. I used to always say I would never…
  • While I'm SLIGHTLY better with peanut butter than I am with cheese (as long as it's natural/organic. If it's Peter Pan, all hope is lost), I totally feel you on this sentiment!
  • Cheese. I can't have cheese in the house. I will eat nothing but cheese until it is gone if it's in the house. I have absolutely no control.
  • I just did my first run of week 4. Walk/run intervals are the way to go to be successful, I'm convinced. This is the longest I've ever been able to maintain any sort of running program (started off by doing my own "plan" with 30 secs running/1 min walking, and last week started using an app similar to C25K). While I…
  • I am about to start my 4th week of running. This is the longest I have EVER been able to maintain a running program (minus when I was in grade school!). I have always gotten really bad shin splints in very short order and have given up. This time I did A LOT of research and talked with a lot of runner friends, and by being…
  • Swimming? Cycling? A friend of mine has horrible knees, and she finds cycling is pretty easy on her. She also has found that yoga makes them better.
  • That's brilliant! Thank you! This is exactly what I was thinking about.
  • My big dog will willfully refuse to go out if she finds the weather distasteful. I have seen her hold it without even batting an eye for 18+ hours (not my choice, mind you, but if your dog refuses to leave the stoop or immediately returns to it if you shove her out in the rain or snow, there's not much you can do!). We had…
  • I walk my dogs a ton. It is a big source of my activity. We typically start our days with a 2+ mile walk, and then what walking I can get in around my work schedule. But I also am a ballroom dancer, so while I'm not at the gym a lot of nights, I do go and dance a lot. Sometimes they go with me and either sleep in the car…
  • I have a weird work schedule that often gives me a lot of time to burn during the day before or after work. If I'm not getting enough exercise, all I want to do is lounge and take naps. When I get up off my butt and get moving, I feel great, power through my work hours, get stuff done at home, sleep well AND (usually) am…
  • I'm not a huge fan of salads. I actually don't mind the taste (don't find them neutral at all), I'm just not a fan of the whole eating experience (often feel like my horses look and sound eating a flake of hay). It's not that I WON'T eat them (sometimes I crave them, and there's a few places I eat that have great salads…
  • I have always considered myself pretty active, and probably at my laziest I do a lot more than most people, but once I got it, I realized that I don't move enough between activities. It gets me up and moving. I enjoy the challenges (silly little rush when you win one), and I enjoy the accountability of the goals you can…
  • I would NOT be working out if you are still feeling light headed and running a fever. Stay home, rest, hydrate and allow your body to get well.
