Getting the most out swimming laps

I found out yesterday that there is a little hidden gem of an indoor lap pool 5 minutes from my house (I'm not completely oblivious....it's in a housing development that I never go through, but it IS a county facility, so inexpensive and available to me!). While swimming isn't my first choice of exercise, it is one that I have used on and off over the years and been very happy with. But, hard to do as the pool I have typically gone to is about 25 minutes away.

Though I rather ride my bike, popping over to the pool a few days a week will be much easier (road riding isn't my favorite around here without friends, as some yokels can be very aggressive, so I have to pack the bike up and take it to a local rail-to-trail)....I can always ride on days off!

I've never put much though into my swimming before, particularly the last time I did it consistently, when it was the first real exercise I was allowed after breaking my leg. I'd like to put a bit more effort and planning into it this time. I have decent form, decent etiquette, and a decent suit and goggles. Now, are there any good programs or plans to follow to get the most out of my pool time? Like a C25K for swimming type thing? I typically get in, give myself X number of laps to swim, and do that. Want something a bit more serious than that!

Give this link below a try. Not sure if it is what you are looking for but it is a 6 week guide to swimming a mile none stop.
There is a swimmers group that you may want to do a search for too.

    Cheers, h.

I agree it's a really good link that they've given you. There are a lot of different swim variations there that'll help you if your seriously interested in swimming.
