I am officially moving into vegan now that the holidays are over. Managing to kick the cheese habit (and just not be lazy about reading labels and cooking my own food) has proven challenging, but I'm slowly getting a handle on it. It will be easier now that the holidays are over and I'm not having to be polite at parties…

Now that the holidays are over and I can decline food without feeling like a jerk ("Look! I made this [cheese incrusted and filled] dish just for you! No meat!") I will be ditching the last of the dairy and going vegan. I've been vegetarian for two years, and ate mostly vegan most of the time.

Honestly, I've always been a complete failure at using my trainer consistently. It usually ends up being a rack for my bike most of the winter! But I like the drinking game idea. It may help with the boredom AND the discomfort factor. I also thinking lowering the seat is a good and easy thing to try. I don't want to buy a…

Enjoy the festivities and don't worry about your log. The only reason I've been logging the last few days (after falling off the wagon) is to get back in the habit. Other than food I make at home, it has been horribly inaccurate! And, I'm also not doing big celebrations (working today and tomorrow), so not a lot of reason…

Something to bare in mind is that there is a difference between whole food, plant based (someone who eats little to no processed food) and vegan. It is still very possible to eat like crap on a vegan diet, thanks to lots of vegan convenience choices (if you live/shop somewhere with a decent supply). I have been vegetarian…

Goodness! I was asked to cite the study, I did. I think it is an eye opener and something to bare in mind, as vegetarians who want to go vegan but say "BUT CHEESE!" It can help you realign your perspective. I never said it was as addictive as cocaine (I said it triggered the same things). Take it or leave it. And petting…

Yep. Definitely. I am more aware now of when I'm eating emotionally, which is weird. I often have an inner monologue of "you're not even actually enjoying this." Next step is finding a different solution!

These articles have been all over the web for a couple of years. Surprised you haven't heard it. Not surprised at all, honestly, when I heard. I know how I am about cheese. It's a Yale study, so it's legit.…

My brother has been vegan for well over 5 years now and he and I recently talked about the cheese thing, because I know that was a hang up for him. He said you just have to commit to doing it and do it. Keep in mind that cheese triggers similar things in your brain that hard drugs do. It is literally addictive. Keeping in…

I've been vegetarian for two years and I'm now ready for the final push to get rid of the last of my dairy (basically cheese). I'm kinda letting the holidays wrap up before making it official and calling myself a vegan, just because I don't want to have THAT awkward conversation over the holidays. The house is vegan now…

As others have said, your first step may be to scale it back. Cut out some the meat you're currently consuming and gradually take away more. Or just go cold turkey and do it. Connecting with your reason for wanting to give it up can help, so researching the meat industry and how animals are treated may help you with that…

I am a big believer in taking classes with a good instructor when first starting out, as good alignment and posture are critical to get the most out of your practice and also not injure yourself. I've taken enough classes (with some SPECTACULAR instructors) and have enough knowledge of posture and body mechanics to do it…

My horses are mostly pets at this point, but I still hop on my younger guy when the kid who leases him can't ride or needs help. I was very competive and very serious for a long time, though.

Depends on what I'm drinking. One of my favorites is a tropical green tea (has some passion fruit and hibiscus and some other things in it). I may put a tiny bit of agave nectar in it if I'm at home (a teeny bit of sugar If not at home). I also love a good spicy chai, and will usually add a teeny bit of sweetener to that.…

I would start by getting yourself comfortable walking at a moderate to quick pace for 30 minutes to an hour. Once you can do that regularly, look into a C25K program. They aren't all the same (some progress much quicker than others, or are speed based). You may find it more beneficial, at first, to do a few weeks of even…

75% of what I eat (when I'm being good) is probably veggies in some form or another. They still have calories and some have a lot more than you'd think! I also like to log them because I have a personal, daily goal I try to meet, and being able to look back helps me see if I'm meeting it, or if I need to fix something. The…

If by overeat you mean overindulge at a meal (I think of things like Thanksgiving or special occasion meals) I find that a walk can make me feel a lot better. Anything beyond that would make me fee gross! But a walk helps a lot! This is also ingrained in me since childhood- my dad, especially, would often suggest going for…

God that sounds good(minus the sausage, only because I'm a vegetarian). I would eat something like that for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

A banana and half a serving of peanut butter. Not much of a breakfast eater and often just do a protein shake, but out of protein powder! I also tend to have munchies later in the evening, so I try to plan my calories accordingly.

Saw the doc today and I am a-ok! Fracture has healed well and all the hardware is in good shape (I found out that getting screws taken out would not be a big deal- I was really worried it would mean a lay up- but my doctor is with me that if they aren't being a significant bother than it's worth waiting). He is sending me…

When I wore a Fitbit, 10k was a pretty basic number for me. I typically walk my dogs 2 miles a day, at least (that, in and of itself comes to a bit over 6k in steps), and the rest I easily got just going about my day. I work a full time job that can keep me busy and on my feet (not always, but I have easily put 8k on a…

Me too! I usually only put deodorant on for work (just in case) and for the dance studio (again, just in case. I want my dance partners to actually want to dance with me!). I think eliminating meat and dairy can really help if you have BO issues. Or at least reducing both. I think a lot of vegans, and even some vegetarians…

I re-started it a few weeks ago, but have unfortunately stopped for the time being until after I see my ortho regarding some issues I've had with an old injury. Hoping it's nothing and I can proceed as normal after Thursday!

No offense, but I do not consider 8000 steps an "active" lifestyle. FB recommends 10k, at least. I hit 10k (when I still wore an FB) just walking my dogs on a daily basis. I do other stuff, too (yoga, some jogging, cycling, and I ballroom dance 4-5 nights a week), but I still consider myself sedentary. Now, if I was using…

PS- I eat very little "replacement" foods. I'll eat a little tofu a couple of times a week, and some seitan occasionally, and will indulge in a veggie burger or black bean burger when out with friends sometimes, but most of my protein comes from beans, lentils, nuts, and dark, leafy greens. I keep a vegan protein powder on…

I am vegetarian with a vegan leaning. When I eat well (less processed food, more veggies and fruit, etc), I feel great! Lots of energy, my super sensitive and dry skin improves, I have less issues with headaches, and my body recovers from stress faster. When I eat poorly (get carried away with cheese-my weakness, go heavy…

I broke my tibia in a pretty spectacular manner a few years ago, which requires surgery, hardware, three months on crutches, etc. The pain is similar to a shin splint when It happens, over the fracture site, but doesn't linger like a shin splint would (may hurt momentarily or for a few minutes). Seems to be related to…

I work really hard not to be sloppy when I run because learning to run well has saved me from crippling shin splints and is allowing me to actually train for a 5k for the first time ever. But I do occasionally miss a step or two and get reminded by my body to pay attention..

I have a doctor who treated me from initial injury to fully recovered, so rather not fool around with non-specialists for something that isn't hindering my day to day function. I'll call tomorrow to set up an appointment with him. Yesterday, my coach and I took some time to analyze what movements cause the pain since it…

I agree with all of this. I'm not vegan (vegetarian with a vegan leaning), but I joke that it's just as easy for me to eat like a frat boy now as it was when I still ate meat and more animal products. There's an awful lot of tasty vegan junk food out there!
